Race: Human
Age:15
Height: 5’2”
Weight: 130 pounds
Appearance: Kiera is petite, with a fit figure from the long hours of physical training regimented by her wealthy family. Her hair comes down to her mid back, dark brown with a deep, reddish sheen to it in the sunlight that gives it the appearance of molten chocolate. She usually wears it unbound, as it curls gently on its own. Her face is heart shaped with almond-shaped, mahogany brown eyes to match her hair. A button nose sits politely in the center of her face over a pair of full, pink lips. She still has occasional breakouts like a typical teenager, most of the time doing her best to hide a pimple or two with make-up. She can be sweet when she wants to be although she is also known to be rather manipulative of others to get what she wants.
Since she was raised in a sheltered environment, she is incredibly naive about the greater universe. She is tends to be rather shy upon first meeting people, preferring to watch interactions first before she attempts to join in. Birth and Early Childhood
Kiera’s story begins not with her birth, but with Seamus, a wealthy hotel tycoon who owned a chain of resorts in the city of Fiyarro. Seamus was an ambitious middle-aged man who craved power and prestige, who arranged a marriage to the much younger Merusa whose family had distant ties to the Serennian nobility. Although he could be charming and suave in public, in private he had a quick temper, often having to replace his personal staff after they would tire of his verbal abuse. He constantly sought ways to have himself and Merusa included in noble functions, from weddings to religious holidays by exploiting his wealth or her familial ties. He became convinced that he could have an heir granted titles after an accident killed a beloved but childless duke; moving Merusa and any of her potential offspring up in the line of succession.
In the fall of 3587, Merusa Zwinick gave birth to a set of much anticipated twins, Kiera and Krayden. In one of the visits to Merusa after her delivery, her doctor revealed to her that the twins were carriers of midichlorians, the factors which determine use of specials powers and gifts that the Jedi Order seek out. Because Serenno was in the Outer Rim, the Order hardly ever looked this far out, but they could be notified of the twins should Merusa choose. Merusa blanched at the idea of the babies being taken away from her and bribed the doctor to alter the blood tests to hide the fact that they were latently force sensitive.
Seamus was delighted to have a son at last, barely paying any attention to Krayden’s twin sister. He bought a large and lavish estate on the outskirts of town where he set Merusa up with an army of servants. Merusa was appalled by the behavior of Seamus, however now that she had born him a son, Seamus’ attention left Merusa and focused solely on Krayden. Merusa, who had never felt any love for her husband, showered her daughter in attention mostly in compensation for the fact that Seamus kept the children apart, having Krayden’s crib moved into his bedchamber and exiled his wife down the hall to a guest room.
Finally having had enough of Seamus’ behavior, Merusa confronted him one night shortly afterwards and reminded him that should she ever divorce him, the children would retain their familial ties, however he would no longer be welcome within the upper echelon of Serennian nobility. This seemed to make Seamus realize that if he wanted to gain more power with the nobles, he would have to keep Merusa happy for the time being.
Allowed to be near each other again, the twins grew older and began to develop their own personalities, Krayden displayed his mother’s patience while Kiera seemed to have inherited her father’s temper. Both were precocious toddlers who learned to walk and talk in full sentences by the time they were two.
As the children approached schooling age, Merusa insisted on private tutors and home schooling. Seamus was happy to oblige; hired the best teachers money could buy to round out their education. Krayden seemed to glide through his studies, easily learning his letters and numbers, and reading while Kiera had to practice for hours. Seamus diligently got weekly progress reports from the tutors, taking special interest in Krayden’s grades while Merusa had to make him sit there to hear how Kiera did as well.
Krayden seemed to figure out that he was the preferred child about this time, began blaming petty stunts and accidents around the estate on his oblivious sister. After a particularly bad week of him breaking a vase, a window and ruining his mother’s prize roses, Kiera finally had enough. Taking the paint set she had gotten for her birthday, she snuck into his room in the night and put colorful hand prints all over every item in his closet before she took scissors to his hair and cut it off on one side of his head.
The seven year old Kiera had to watch a nearly bald Krayden begin his fencing lessons from the window of her bedroom after being grounded for a week by Seamus, his face bright red as he berated his daughter. Merusa merely looked disappointed as Kiera stomped her foot and slammed down on her bed. Merusa tried to reason with her but Kiera took it as her mother preferring Krayden too. Kiera stared mournfully out as Krayden got to ride his pony through the garden all the while trying to reason out to make her parents love her. During the week, Kiera’s favorite nanny, Lorta took pity on her and snuck her in treats. From that point on, an open rivalry developed between the children as they vied for recognition from Seamus and Merusa.
Later Childhood and Adolescence
At age 9, Merusa procured a martial arts coach to teach the twins self defense. Where Krayden could breeze through his school lessons with little studying, Kiera began to demonstrate proficiency for physical combat and a gracefulness that caused her mother to hire a gymnast to teach her acrobatics and dance. Krayden spent hours practicing his fencing footwork while Kiera would be able to learn not only her tumbling routines, but pick up swordsmanship pointers from spying on his lessons. Not one to let her brother get ahead, Kiera would take great pleasure in reminding him that he was clumsy compared to her, to which Krayden would retort that he was more handsome.
Their bickering escalated to a new level after one afternoon shortly after their 12th birthday. Kiera had earned perfect marks for a tumbling routine in a competition, gloating to Kray who had just lost in a fencing routine. Making allusions that the only way she had won was because Merusa had paid off the judges, Kiera pushed her brother into a wall, knocking a table and shattering a piece of delicate art that their father had been gifted. Rousted from his office in time to hear Krayden remark that Kiera wasn’t really Seamus’ daughter and that was the reason why Seamus didn’t love her, Seamus bellowed loudly for silence. With tear filled eyes, Kiera looked up defiantly at her father (whom she bore more than a strong resemblance to) and asked him if it was true.
Seamus looked not entirely friendly at the splotchy-eyed girl, about to respond, when Merusa came into the hallway, screeching at both Seamus and Krayden. She sent Krayden to bed without supper and resolved to have a talk with Seamus later, and took Kiera to her room to comfort the child as she cried herself to sleep. It had always just been a fear in the young girl’s heart but she had seen the hatred in his eyes that day.
Merusa began to take more interest in Kiera’s upbringing; taught her the things that mothers do, and tried her best to make Kiera understand that she was loved. Although she was no knockout, she had developed into a lovely young girl and Merusa had hoped that Kiera would eventually be able to let the bitterness towards her father and brother go.
Seamus and Merusa were seen together less and less as time passed, rumors that Seamus was carrying on an affair with a widowed countess circulated town, much to the dismay of the young Kiera. Krayden seemed to think it was their father’s prerogative to sow his seed wherever he saw fit. Merusa never spoke of the matter to her children, but her disappointment in Seamus was hard to hide.
Progress seemed to be made for a while with Kiera until just before her 15th birthday when Merusa fell ill with a strange disease and perished within a fornight. Kiera was devasted as Seamus used Merusa’s funeral as a lavishly over the top society event designed to curry favor with the Serennian nobility. Krayden was as much obsessed with the idea of being noble as his calculating father despite Kiera’s pleas to have a quiet family service.
It was at the funeral that Krayden decided to push his sister’s buttons for what would be the last time. While she was kneeling beside the coffin, praying at the wake, Krayden crept beside her and began to whisper to her that Merusa had actually been carrying on an affair with the local mayor. Seething and blind with rage, Kiera’s emotions got the best of her and she shoved her brother away from her, so hard it knocked the casket over, before Seamus had her forcibly removed from the room amidst shock and dismay from the guests.
The last thing Kiera saw as she was drug out, struggling and crying was the supposed mistress, next to her father while her mother’s body was taken out of the room. Seamus had Kiera confined to her rooms while he tried to figure out what to do with her, meanwhile Kiera did everything she could to try to escape.
Lorta helped her to sneak out of her room a couple nights after the funeral, giving her the key to her mother's private office. Going through her mother's computer terminal, she began to find payments to doctors regarding her and her brother. Puzzled as to why their bloodwork was being tampered with, Kiera downloaded the files and headed back to her room.
Sneaking back in quietly, she flipped her lights on to reveal Jenis, her mother's personal assistant. The older woman sat at Kiera's desk holding a rather large package, a finger at her lips, calling for silence. Jenis rose quietly, handing the envelope to Kiera before she kissed the girl's forehead and slipped out.
Kiera tore the package open, spilling out a piece of flimisi with a name and a code on it along with bank account information. Running a search on the name, she discovered it was a local attorney who had an office on the other side of town from the estate. Fueled by the curiosity and intrigue, Kiera packed a light bag and with the aid of Lorta, managed to get off the estate unnoticed by the guards under the cover of night.
Meeting with the attorney the next day, Kiera learned that her mother had known of her father's affairs for years as well as his plots to elbow his way into the nobility. She had established a trust fund in Kiera's name so that in the event that something should happen to Merusa, Kiera would be granted immediate access as trustee through an approved guardian. Lorta, having been handpicked as Kiera's nanny since birth, had long been watching over the young girl and gave the lawyer leave to release all information to Kiera.
Among the things Kiera learned from the brief, was that her mother suspected that she was being poisoned by her husband through a proxy, and left explicit instructions that should she perish, Seamus was not to be prosecuted as it would cast an ugly light on Krayden and Kiera, whom she wanted to protect as much as possible. Instead, she left instructions that a certain doctor would perform the autopsy, giving Seamus a false report while the real findings would be forwarded to the lawyer for safekeeping until Kiera could decide how to handle them.
Kiera stared at the file for what seemed like hours as she seethed in anger. Merusa had been murdered and most of the evidence pointed to Seamus. The time of death was altered on the fake reports and the poison was one that would break down quickly after death but since the doctor had been tipped off, he was expecting her body to come in. Jenis and Lorta worked together to draw tissue and blood samples of their mistress just prior to her death to corroborate the true autopsy results, but Kiera couldn't get past that her mother knew she was dying, knew that Seamus was killing her and still did nothing to stop it.
She slammed her fists down on the desk as Lorta and Jenis entered the room together. Sitting down, they proceed to explain that Merusa knew her time was coming to an end, and that if Seamus was so bold as to kill her, he would most likely kill Kiera too. Kiera's best chance was to get as far away from Seamus as she could for now. He held most of the local politicians in his hand, and had informants everywhere, but she was not without resources.
Lorta pulled up the true blood tests from the files and handed them to the disbelieving young girl. According to the tests, she and her brother had midichlorian counts in the range of force users. Stunned by the news, Kiera asked what she was supposed to do now, how could she learn to use this ability.
Lorta waited a moment before she spoke up about the state of galactic politics, and that there were whisperings that here in the Outer Rim, the Sith Order had begun to gather those with Kiera's gifts without the meddling oversight of the Republic or the Jedi from the Core. She went on that if the rumors of things on Korriban were true, then Kiera could find training.
Lorta knew exactly what she was sending her young charge into, knowing that if she told Kiera the true nature of the ancient Sith of legend she would not go. Determined that Kiera had to avenge the death of Merusa, Lorta kept that information secret from Kiera. Kiera agreed to go and find out what she could about this Sith Order. Armed with the files about what truly happened to her mother, Kiera boarded a chartered ship to take her to Korriban. She hoped that whatever she found there, it would be the road to finally making Seamus pay for his treachery.

*Kiera couldn’t believe what she heard, a hot feeling flushing through her face and ears, her eyes squeezed shut as her hands rested against the cold coffin before her. He called her a sleeper, his own mother, the very woman who had birthed him, had raised him, and whose body lay not more than 2 feet from him. An affair? No, not her mother, not her beautiful, graceful and kind mother.
Merusa had carried herself with a quiet dignity through so many years of a horrible marriage and never once did she let the façade of a perfect family life slip in public. There was no way the hurtful remarks that rolled off Krayden’s tongue were true. But still the anger within her grew with every syllable that passed his perfect cupid’s bow mouth.
It felt as though her blood was boiling, her fingers curled into fists. Her knuckles faded to white as she tried desperately to ignore his voice in her ear; tears pricked the corners of her eyes. Everything felt like it was sitting on her shoulders and a strange sensation filled the pit of her stomach as though she could take her brother on and beat the crap out of him. The stress and strain on her finally lashed out as she turned, pounded those two balled up fists at his chest and screamed louder than she ever thought she could. It felt righteous as she hit him, letting all her anger, grief and fear out on him.*
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
*Krayden flew back from her strikes; hitting the corner of the coffin. It slid off the table backwards, the lid crashed open as flowers spilled across the floor, her mother’s body tossed out on the ground. A gasp flew up from the crowd of mourners as she blinked through the tears, shocked at the sight of Kray on the ground as he blinked up at her in anger.
Seamus’ bellowing voice barked an order and before she could process it, strong hands have grabbed her by the upper arms, pulled her backwards as her knees buckled beneath her. No, she had to stay, she had to get her mother, she had to stay goodbye. She whined, pleaded to be let go as the men escorting her out resorted to dragging her as she struggled to break free of their grip. She cried for her father, his cold eyes glared back at her as the Countess Belana wrapped an arm around Seamus, a disappointed look in her eyes.
As the doors to the long hall close behind her, she caught sight of her mother’s body stuffed into the casket once more and picked up to be carried out of the hall. Grief washed over the young girl one more time as she accepted that the one good thing that protected her from Seamus’ wrath had perished. There was no love in his heart for his daughter, no room in his ambition for her. Her sobs were heart wrenching as she was dropped on the floor of her room and locked in. The pale, blue moonlight washed over her as she cried herself to sleep, feeling more alone than she had.*
