The name "Taylir" literally means "Keeper" and the clan is known for being keepers of knowledge. Before the treaty of Mando'a, Clan Taylir featured some of the finest engineers and inventors under Mandalore, often working for MandalMotors and designing new variations of the Basilisk war droid and maintaining weaponry and equipment. Often on the frontlines, the mandalorians of Clan Taylir were literally in the thick of the battle maintaining their brothers equipment for the glory of Mandalore. After the treaty though the Clan fell apart with some becoming legitimate engineers for Republican and independant planets, and the others falling back to their homeworlds.
There were a few though, no more than a dozen who were full of spite at "The Betrayer's" decision to try to nullify Mandalorian culture and went back to the planet where Mandalore has always arisen from to take the galaxy by storm. Dxun. It was here that Kar'tayl-dral Taylir (Shortened to Kar) was born into the strong family values that mandalorian culture is famous for. Kar's name means "Keeper of Knowledge and power" and with both of his parents being successful engineers, there were high hopes that Kar would follow in their footsteps and assist the next mandalore when he arose in battle. Kar spent his early years learning the Resol'nare from his mother, as well as play-fighting with the other children of the camp. By the time Kar was six, he had heard countless stories of how his family use to conquer worlds with a hundred other clans as well as learning the creation myth, Akaanati'kar'oya. His parents were rather skeptical of it all though and were quick to remind him that it was only a story and that a true Mandalorian relied on his armor and his clan in battle and not the god of destruction, Kad Ha'rangir.
When Kar turned eight, as was customary his father began to take the boy out into the jungle hunting with the rest of the men. They usually just hunted Cannok and the occasional Maalraas - however when Kar was ten they were set upon by a Boma after killing a group of Cannok. Most of the other children jumped to the groud behind their fathers, but Kar shot his blaster wildly at the massive reptilian. The group of battle-hardened Mandalorians were more than a match for the beast however, and they left with carcass in tow with no injuries. When they returned Kar was boasted about by his father to his mother, and it was on that day the little mando learnt the importance of bravery.
Verd'goten
Kar continued to go hunting with his father, and occassionally learning survival skills in the jungle until his 13th birthday. On that day, his mother was in tears as it was time to do his Resol'nare. Kar knew this and had been excited about becoming a true man for months, continually practicing with his rifle so that he would be able to face whatever trial lay before him. His father led the boy through the gates of the camp, and led him in a direction of the jungle they had never hunted before. After what seemed like an age, his father stopped in a small clearing.
"My son, today is a great day for me, and for you. Today you will take the first steps to become a true Mandalorian. To becoming a true man. If you can survive for one day and one night in this clearing, hunting and killing whatever is thrown at you, then you will have passed the Resol'nare as did your forefathers before you, and take your rightful place as a member of the clan."
After finishing his speech his father left abruptly, leaving the boy on his own within the clearing.
Kar was initially quite proud of being part of such a long lineage, and then he realised quite how much danger he was in. He remembered listing to tales from his grandfather about the Zakkeg - huge armored lizards that could kill a dozen mandalorians before they knew what hit them. Kar shrugged off the thought and began climbing the nearest tree to gather leaves to make a hammock. Within a few hours, and after numerous cuts, Kar had built a small shelter in one of the highest branches from the ground, hopefully away from any predators. Just as he was about to jump down, a lone Maalraas came wandering into the clearing just below Kar, obviously following a trail of scent with its nose buried in the ground. Before the jungle cat even had a chance to smell upwards, Kar had let off three blaster bolts from his rifle straight into the back of its head. there was a small thud as the cat, breathed its last breath and hit the ground.
Kar jumped down and tied a rope around the carcass and tied it to a tree about a hundred meters from his shelter. At least any other creatures looking to eat Kar would find an easier meal safely away from his camp he thought. Kar was feeling a little tired, and decided to simply sleep until morning, when hopefully his father would be back and he could come back to the camp as a fully fledged man.
Life is smashed
Kar woke up with a start. Initially he tried to remember the girl hehad been dreaming about, her long hair floating in the breeze...There was a smell of smoke in the jungle air, and the sky was still black. Then Kar remembered why he woke up, he had heard screaming. The young mandalorian swung himself down from the tree, hitting the ground with a thud. A high-pitched scream broke through the usual wildlife sounds of Dxun and Kar began running. Perhaps this was all part of his "Verd'goten", but the young Kar shrugged the thought off as you would a beetle, the screaming had come from the camp. He just knew of it. Running back the camp was a lot quicker than running to the camp, as Fawkes simply followed the shouting and screaming, as well as the trail of smoke. When he finally broke into the familiar clearing he stopped dead. He simply couldn't believe what he was seeing. A zakkeg was charging through their camp, smashing down the wooden barricades and stomping on the vheh'yaim. The whole camp was alight with children running around wildly, and their parents trying to distract the beast with everything from blasters to rocks.
Kar ran into the camp towards his home, even from the distance he could see that it was one of the camps that was burning freely. As he got closer he noticed the crippled body wrapped in broken mandalorian armor that belonged to his father. Kar immediately ran overand knelt by his side despite the chaos ensuing around him. His father managed to turnhis head slightly and grabbed hold of Kar's wrist tightly.
"Son...I didn't think I would see you again. It came in the night...There territorial creatures, I dont understand why it attacked...Your mother...She's part of the Manda now...I'm sorry.." The old man's grip gradually became loose, and Kar realized he was an orphan. The little Mandalorian felt numb, but something was growing inside him. At first Kar thought it was sadness but it was more than that, it was greater, more powerful. It was rage.
Kar took hold of his rifle aimed it at the beast who was stomping on one of the last remaining houses. He fired wildly with tears streaming down his cheeks as he ran towards the hulking mass screaming. At first the Zakkeg didn't even realised he was being attacked until Kar dropped his rifle and pulled out his combat knife from his side. He jumped much higher than he should of been able to and stuck the combat knife between the beast's armored plates. This got its attention and it began to buck, throwing Kar off and into the wall with an almighty crash. Darkness began to attack his sight from the sides of his peripheral vision, gradually creeping inwards. The last thing Kar saw was the beast turning to charge at the broken mandalorian, and a figure with gleaming red lights standing in front of him, and then he blacked out.
From Ashes to Ashes
Kar woke up with an almighty headache and the smell of ash and smoke filling his nostrils. As he openedhis weary eyes he began to notice a slow, almost mocking clapping sound. A figure dressed in black was sat on top of the lifeless form of the Zakegg.
"I came to Dxun to train and test my power against beasts such as this.." He gestured to the Zakkeg with his thumb. "And then I found your little bunch. The Mandalorians just won't die will they!"
The man let out a hearty laugh. "Clans not form from the blood that you share but from the blood that you spill. At least you understand war and what stagnation does to a society..." The figure in black began tostare off into the distance, a look of disgust on his face. "I wanted to see if the Mandalorians were still alive... In spirit I mean. A hundred years ago, a single mandalorian would of been enough for a Zakkegg, But now your people are so ill that it could destroy your entire camp! Except for you that is..." The man more glared at Kar than looked, as if he was trying to see into the depths of Kar's heart. "I have a proposition for you. Your Clan is dead because they were weak. But you survived, youattacked a Zakegg with all the anger you could gather and it was this that made you powerful. I could give you more power than you ever dreamed of if you came with me, more power than all the Mandalores there ever was...So what do you say."
