Damage Control

The Unholy Refuge drifted through space. Not completely powerless, but leaking power like a sieve.

It tilted and turned as the Engines intermittently received power and twisted the ship, making it's drifting path erratic at best.

Alkeran's eyes slowly opened. His vision was blurred.

A piece of ceiling had come loose and smacked into his head knocking him unconscious. He didn't know how long for.

He slowly rose to his feet, but fell back as his head spun and he felt suddenly dizzy.

He tried once again and managed to get up with the help of a nearby wall that was still intact. He kept a firm hold of the wall to keep his balance and he struggled to get the bridge. He looked in the pilots seat to see what was left of his pilot, with shards of console scattering his body.

No doubt a power surge had overloaded the circuits in the console and caused a sudden explosion that the pilot hadn't expected.

A look at the console verified it as the insides were completely burnt out. The co-pilots console was relatively unharmed, which was lucky.

He stumbled into the seat and tried to focus his sight. It was difficult. He couldn't do a darned thing at the moment.

He got out of the seat and moved to the door. That was the intention. The result was somewhat less spectacular however. Alkeran stumbled forward and fell, landing face first onto a shard of console that had been blown on, embedding into and cutting a large portion of his left cheek.

Alkeran rolled over and shouted out, wrenching the wreckage from his cheek and clasping his hand around the wound. He crawled over to a wall and helped himself up. He slowly made his way through the ship to the medbay.

Half the scanning equipment was offline, but Alkerans main concern was finding bandages and bacta for the cheek wound before he bled out. He did so and managed to bandage his lower jaw and cheeks.

Next was the probable concussion. He looked around and saw the relevant scanner. It was dark. Completely without power. He sighed and stumbled over to it, dragging over another machine to use it's power source. He linked the two together and quickly scanned himself before it burnt out.

Concussion, as he had expected, but the machine dispensed the relevant medicine. He swallowed the pills and slowly got up. His vision was still blurred, but he slowly made his way to Engineering. As he went, his vision began to clear, and by the time he arrived, his vision was clear and he could concentrate without it hurting.

He moved to the primary computer and accessed the systems.

Alkeran sighed.

First order of business, sort out the power distribution and inertial dampeners. One person can survive on 32% of life support, so that wasn't a great concern right now.

Second, sort out the shields and engines. Everything else comes after that.

Alkeran opened up the sub systems and followed the route of power.
A few minutes of staring at the screen he found the problem. Luckily, it was secluded to the power generator itself. It wouldn't be too hard to fix, hopefully.

Alkeran grabbed a toolbox and crouched down to under the Vjun Type 7 Power Core.

Looking inside, he could see several damaged conduits. There was two severely damaged cables that were sparking and on the verge of exploding. He slid out of the core and grabbed a set of engineering gloves. Large, bulky and extremely fire resistant. Grabbing the appropriate tools, he crouched back into the core. He placed his gloves hands closer to the damaged cables. Even through the gloves, it was extremely hot. The cables themselves were burning.

He grabbed one of the tools and put it onto the table. He slowly began to turn the tool and eventually the cable slid out, and the power transfer sealed off, saving some more power. He slid the cable out of the generator and left it on the floor.

That was weapons without power. Now he needed to remove the cable for the Hyperdrive Engines, before they exploded and he was stuck for good. He leant back down and crawled inside the core again.

He tested the cable for the Hyperdrive Engines. It wasn't as hot, but it was still hotter than it should've been.

He moved the tool and gripped the cable. He quickly pulled the cable out and moved to look at the diagnostic console once more.

It was all the same, except the Weapons and Hyperdrive Engines had no power, and so were not displayed.

It was simply a matter of patching up the remaining cables as best as possible. Inertial dampeners were key for now. Without them, anything that touches the ship will send the inhabitants flying in directions and causing massive impacts.

He looked inside the core. The cable seemed intact. He sighed. That meant that the leak was somewhere else. He moved to the computer once more and ran a check. The leak was half way through the conduit. On the outside of the ship.

Alkeran's heart sunk. Not a great deal really made him scared or worried, but the vacuum of space was obviously a terrifying thing.

He headed to the cargo bay and donned one of the Space Suits. He stepped into the airlock and closed the inner door. Once the door was sealed he pressed the button to decompress the bay. However, an alarm sounded and the bay didn't decompress. He pressed the button once more, to no avail.

Opening the console up, he tampered with the wiring, attempting to bypass any security or fail safes. However, nothing worked. The system was just offline. He hooked his arm around a safety panel and braced himself. He was just about to do something incredibly stupid, but necessary.

He grabbed the lever to open the door and yanked it down. As the door opened, all the air rushed out, trying to drag Alkeran with it. When the worst of it was over, he slowly pushed himself away until he was outside the ship. He grabbed the exterior panel and slowly pulled himself to wear the access panel was. He had his tools fastened to his belt.

He slowly uncoupled the panel and tied it down to the hull to stop it drifting off during the ships erratic tumbling through space. He undone several fastenings on a large cable and took the cable out while he rewired the rest of the console to accept his commands.

He bypassed several sub-systems for the dampening system and eventually sorted out the power leak by rerouteing the remaining power through several other minor circuits. He secured the panel back on and crawled back to the airlock. It was still pumping air into the lock, which was disturbing the already erratic twisting. He forced himself inside through the air pressure and managed to shut the door, allowing the room to be pressurized before he opened up to the rest of the ship.

He re-entered the cargo bay and took the helmet of the space suit off, followed by the rest of the suit.

He headed back to Engineering and took a look at the diagnostic console. Both engines and the shields needed to come online before anything else. Although, which one to do first?

Doing the engines first would leave him without shields, and therefore defenseless if anyone attacked.
However, doing the shields first would give him some defense, but no ability to run away if things got hairy.

Alkeran slumped against the wall. Having to repair a ship to at least a semi-functional status on his own was very difficult, and he was no techno whizz. What he had done so far was easy, he still had to rewire the Hyperdrive at some point in order to reach a ship yards.

However, Alkeran knew absolutely nothing about Hyperdrive engines. Instead, he leaned over to the console and released a distress signal. The ship had suffered a catastrophic failure and he needed assistance.

It was going to be a long day.
