Bio: Kahn was born on Cathar along with his three sisters but he spent little time there and was raised on Rodia. His parents were a pair of Cathars that had been displaced from their ancestral home during an intensely bloody clan war between their clan, the Khish, and the neighboring Quwell. Both Kahn's father, Sslairth, and Kahn's mother, Kullen were warriors and fought against the Quwell, but it proved futile and the following year the Khish had been overrun by the Quwell's superior numbers. Sslairth was killed in the final invasion of the Khish city-tree. Kullen, fearing for her children's lives, fled the planet with several other families aboard a trade ship that was offering safe passage to Rodia to any refugees from the war.
Once they arrived on Rodia, the family had little more then a few credits given to them from the traders, who spared what they could to refugee families. There were many nights of little to no food, but luckily Kullen found a job as a dock worker along with some of the other Cathar parents, taking as many shifts as possible to feed their families. When Kullen wasn't around the other Cathar refugees watched over the children. It was a hard life, but it was a life none-the-less, and they may not have had much, but they all survived.
From the time that Kahn could walk and talk, he was looking over the other Cathar children being the oldest of his litter (By three seconds) and the oldest of the Cathar children. He would watch over them, helping the other parents, and eventually watching over the others while all the parents worked when he was older. This would brand the child with a fierce sense of responsibility over those he was charged to protect.
After a few years they began school and life was, for the most part, normal. It was also when Kahn's family began using the name Solomon as a family name. It was more for a feeling of togetherness and an attempt at fitting in then a practical purpose. In school Kahn wasn't always the smartest student, but he was always the hardest working, realizing the importance of an education. He would spend hours studying and working on his assignments and still only obtained moderately good marks, but he never let it deter him from continuing to put in a full effort.
Since he spent most of his time studying or looking after his siblings, he had little time for a social life. He was never exactly popular among his classmates, but those few that did considered him a friend found him to be a fiercely loyal and trustworthy, often standing up for his friends and siblings against bullies and the like, and more then a few times ending up in the principals office after fights. It was during this time that he found he enjoyed fights, the rush of adrenaline being the only high he would ever embrace in his life. If not his mother and siblings, he would have most likely ended up in more fights in the school yard but he knew that if he ever got thrown out of school he'd be letting them all down, so he restrained from it, only fighting when it was absolutely necessary.
Around his tenth birthday, his school began a martial arts class after school. He was intrigued by the idea of a class where the primary focus is fighting, so he signed up as soon as his mother gave permission. He found it to be considerably different then he had imagined however when the instructor started the first class by stating that the intention of learning said arts were in fact to prevent fighting, which vexed the young Cathar. He was a quick learner and after some time found himself to be rather adept at the fighting style that he was being taught, quickly rising to the top of the class. The style was known as Ojinawi Kepo, an ancient hand to hand fighting style that was developed by humans millennia ago. The teacher of the classes name was Yan Khol, a human from Corellia who had settled on Rodia after a stint in the Republic Army. Often Kahn's mother would have to work late on the docks, forcing him to wait at school, and so Yan would stay too and wait with him. Yan and Kahn got along very well, and through time, Kahn began to look to Yan as a father figure.
As the years passed Kahn grew older and he began to think of the future. The docks and factories held little appeal for him, but it seemed to be his only future. One day Yan asked Kahn if he had ever given any thought to serving in the Republic. Kahn had heard many stories from Yan about his time in the service and the thought of joining was very exciting. It took a lot of convincing to his mother, but once he reached age eighteen, he enlisted in the Republic Army.
He was sent to basic training at the Rodian capital city of Equator City. There he went through ten weeks of BCT, or basic combat training, and learned the "in's and out's" of being a soldier in the Republic's army from weapon use to physical training, of which he showed an excellence in both. Even the more cerebral aspects made sense to the adolescent Cathar such as formations and basic battlefield tactics. Kahn was quickly recognized as one of the best soldiers in the unit, but this did not inflate his ego or alienate the other soldiers in his unit as he was always encouraging them and helping them any way he could.
During basic, the Kahn's Drill Sergeant would routinely take the recruits out into the Rodian jungles during drills to push the soldiers to work harder and challenge them. Kahn found his natural speed and strength an immensely valuable asset during this time, though he would never leave his fellow soldiers in the dust, instead often slowing down to help and encourage others. His martial arts training also gave him the determination and discipline to succeed through any trial the Drill Sergeant could conjure up. His exemplary skills in soldiering and leadership qualities did not go unnoticed by his superiors, quickly moving up the enlisted ranks and advancing to the rank of Sergeant in under two years.
As a Sergeant his job entailed more then just leading the men during training hours, he was also a leader in their everyday lives. From over seeing their tasks were completed to keeping them out of trouble off base, he was a constant source of strength and guidance to the men in his unit. He took his role very seriously and always led by example.
After the completion of his basic training and advanced individual training, Kahn's unit was stationed on Druckenwell. They spent the next two years drilling and dealing in local affairs. After two years on the planet, they were shipped out to Ord Vaug to deal with a prisoner uprising. When they arrived on Ord Vaug, the prisoners had already captured two settlements and were attacking a third, freeing all of the settlement's captives as they went, growing their numbers. Kahn's unit was dispatched to a northern settlement in the way of the rebels march. The top brass thought that the rebels would move to try and take the space port south where Kahn's company was, but instead they moved north and attacked the Northern Camp. Kahn's company weren't prepared for what for the fight, they were told that it was a small band of prisoners that had no weapons. Instead, they would face fully armed prisoners lead by a former republic general who had been convicted of treason. The battle was bloody and disastrous for the Republic as his leadership had given the prisoners a potent fight that the Infantry company wasn't ready for. Kahn and the other Republic soldiers were overwhelmed and forced to retreat. The company's commanding officer along with forty percent of the unit were killed or captured by the marauders during the night of fighting, if not for Kahn and his squad hastily forming a counterattack against the prisoners rear guard, the casualties would have been much greater.
When they finally were able to contact the Republic forces, a counter-attack was mounted the following day. Now knowing what they were facing, the Republic forces were able to recapture the settlement and the rebels and prisoners were routed and/or captured, but the casualties were still heavy as the prisoners fought almost to the last against the Military. This first taste of battle and defeat had left Kahn angered and saddened by the loss of so many friends and soldiers, but it did not deter him from continuing his service, instead he redoubled his efforts in training so that he would not fail again.
Kahn returned along with the rest of the Druckenwell forces to Druckenwell. There his company would be reorganized with another from his regiment, along with some replacements, back to full fighting compliment. Kahn was also promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and commended for his role in the fighting on Ord Vaug.
His next taste of battle wouldn't come for another three years. He would be sent back to Rodia to deal with civil unrest that was being stirred up by a popular political party. He and his fellow soldiers spent several weeks working as peace keepers while Martial law was enacted, they were chosen in hopes that since the unit was primarily from Rodia it would be seen as less of a republic occupation and more as a peace keeping force. The civil unrest did however eventually escalated to open fighting, and a bloody coup was attempted by the new political party. Kahn's company was tasked with the protection of the prime minister. Some of Kahn's soldiers even joined the rebels in the coup, forcing Kahn to fight his some of his own men when they attacked the Prime ministers estate. The fight was bloody and while Kahn and his men repelled the rebels, they took heavy losses. During the fight, Kahn was disarmed and he was forced to fight hand to hand with a group of three rebels. Thanks to Kahn's hand to hand training he was able to engage them and defeat all three, ending in him killing one of the rebels while wounding the other two. During the fight a rebel who brandished a knife got behind Kahn and jumped on him, cutting his face from eyebrow to cheek.
After the fight the rebels were left battered and defeated by the republic forces, and once reinforcements arrived the republic soldiers drove the rebels off. After the rebels were rounded up, the members of Kahn's unit that had joined the coup forces were quickly tried and accused of treason, and were shot by a firing squad. While Kahn believed they were guilty, he felt that their punishment wasn't entirely called for, though he never voiced this opinion to anyone.
Though the Republic would maintain a garrison on Rodia for another few years, Kahn's unit was transferred back to Druckenwell shortly after the incident. Once on Druckenwell, they returned to a life of standard duty: drilling, training, and helping with local affairs. Kahn fell back into his life on Druckenwell, helping his men work and drill.
