Droids and droid-like beings

So I was thinking about character ideas brainstorming a little with my roommate and came to think. Are droids good for characters? I mean if we look at some more memorable droids from the series like C-3PO, R2 and HK-47 for example they have quite clear artificial intelligence. 3PO maybe the most of these as he is quite emotional for a droid when R2 is hurt in the battle of Yavin and quite good arrange of other emotions. But there might be some one with a good counter point for this too. Just trying to find the opinion in here.

Other thing is droid-like beings like General Grievous (Well he is technically a cyborg) or maybe something made with sith alchemy like Animated droid with force imbued life or something of this sort? I would just love to hear the opinions here first before going into detail about a character that might be declined just with words "No Droids as Characters."

Droids are allowed as characters. Have at it.

As are cyborgs within reason--no anti-tank lasers for arms or anything like that.

Droids also make excellent NPC companion characters to bounce dialogue off of.

I'm just going to comment about the "droid like beings"
in the books there was a Crystal that made droids into life like beings.

just my own comment though but i think a General Grievous type char would be awesome
