Okay, we have all seen the commercials and the gamer inside of all of us usually tears to get out when it comes out. But, the question for me is: Is it worth buying? Has anyone on the site actually bought the computer game and played it? If so is it worth buying? After a serious let down of buying Fallout: New Vegas and it not being worth the 67 bucks I bought it for, I don't wanna make the same mistake again.

It's a nice enough game I suppose. But I don't think it's worth paying fa monthly subscription for. If you're really into the whole Kotor experience, by all means, buy it. It has a free month to play anyway so I guess you can decide after that whether it'd be worth playing any further. But in my opinion, it isn't. I never even used up the 1 month they threw in with the game.
In fairness, if you look at it graphics-wise and game content, it's a pretty sweet SW game, despite being an MMORPG.

I've never played KOTOR before. Is it any better than SWTOR? I've looked up SWTOR and yes, the graphics and game content does look exceptional, but obviously playing p2p forum rpgs like this graphics don't account for a great majority of what I look for in games. Well computer games that is. Totally different when dealing with consoles.
What exactly is SWTOR lacking in?
And how does KOTOR one-up it?

First of all, Kotor is a really old game (released 2003?). I'm surprised you haven't played it yet. It's buggy, lots of content cuts because of time constraints, that sorta thing. If you played it at the time it was released, you might enjoy it. Now? I guess you'd only play it if you have nothing better to do. I mentioned Kotor because there are a lot of references and cameo appearances from the the game and its sequel when you play Old Republic. It adds to the experience. So if you haven't played kotor and kotor2, The experience isn't as good while playing Old Republic.
And don't get me wrong, swtor is a pretty decent game. You'll enjoy it, sure. But like I said, you won't catch me paying $10-$15 a month for it. It's good, but not that good. I guess a good aspect you can count on is that it has more back story and content than most ordinary MMORPG's that you play. It's too bad they decided to make it into an MMO. Lots of potential.

I knew KOTOR was an old game, I was thinking about getting it when it came out but passed. Now with all the references I should'a probably bought it when I had the chance all those years ago. Lol
And your saying its a decent game but if it didnt have the mmo part and just a single player based game it would of been alot better?

No, not a lot better. I just don't think it's worth paying for in the long run. It apparently lost its appeal to me after playing it for a while and thinkng to myself: I have to pay for this soon after a month?. It feels like Bioware was ripping me off since I already paid for the game itself and will continue to pay to enjoy it further. You should ask yourself before you buy this game whether you can commit yourself to this for a while. If you think it's worth it, go take that risk, if not, save your money for something else.

So basically buy it, play it, and if I can see myself committing to it and enjoying it for a long while then go for it and keep paying to play it? If not then I have an expensive paperweight!

I'm cheap too! It helps, especially with games. Helps you weigh the pros and cons better when cost is always in the back of your mind x)

I just hope they'll shift to free to play in the future, though I highly doubt it. Though Star Trek online used to be pay to play and only recently became free despite the hype it produced on its release.

Yeah, only a few pay to plays usually make. So they switch to freebies and just load up on advertisements. WoW being, of course, the big player in paying to play mmorpgs. But even it's starting to allow longer and more extended free trials which gives me the idea either they want more people to try and buy or Blizzard is having some problems!
But this isn't a discussion about WoW. But, any who, thanks for your help man. I probably won't buy it cause I usually don't commit to pays to play. I even failed at WoW after a couple months. My attention spand is too short. Lol

So just in brief, I did get it and I generally don't give a rats about spending coin on pay2play games. But so far, playing a imperial agent, I'm enjoying it, missions are cool, gameplay smooth, conversation options is a plus giving that slightly non-linear feel.
Yell out if anyone else is playing and what server, I'm not that far in that care about starting again.
