I know they're covering the appendices extensively.
I also heard a rumor the Silmarillion will be a movie too. But that's just a rumor.

If Silmarillion becomes a movie, which I believe makes it friggin' required to have the almighty badassery of Ancalagon the Black in it. Just seeing a dragon of that magnitude would make me nerdgasm forever and ever, until the end of time. The Silmarillion is my favorite book of all Tolkien's Middle-Earth mythos.
What I loved about Silmarillion is that, all of these epic Big Bads throughout the Tolkien Middle-Earth legends, like Sauron, Smaug, Shelob, the Balrog--you learn they were really nothing more than servants to something far, far greater, grander and sinister.
The lasting presence of The Enemy can never be extinguished...
Edit: Also, related note to Hobbit movie, it's not going to be two movies. It was announced I think a month ago that it's going to be split into three.

You know strangely enough I never read the Silmarillion. A friend of mine offered me a very beautiful hardback copy of it, but I never got to reading it (mainly because he also offered me a very nice hardback copy of the Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy: A Trilogy In Four Parts on the same occasion).
I've read quite a lot of Tolkien stuff. The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings naturally, but also more obscure books like The Children Of Hurin and his very own interpretation of the Norse epic poem The Elder Edda (not an easy read). But I've never read The Simarillion. It's sitting right now about five inches from my face and I am seriously considering picking the damn thing up.

I just saw it yesterday, and it was glorious. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to others without reservation.

*nod* Just as epic as the LOTR trilogy films.
I plan on seeing it again with my dad.
