Jia stood next to Rin against the wall in silence, her eyes constantly shifting from one thing to the next, hoping to catch some glimpse of an interesting moment or overhear something entertaining from one of the other guests.
The two stood out quite a bit at this party. Everyone surrounding them was dressed in their formal best, and walked with an air of wealthy success as they mingled with one another. Then there was her and her master, dressed as they usually were in clothing that clearly gave them away as Jedi, standing aside and watching silently with ever observant eyes. They weren't meant to be there as guardians. Not tonight. It was difficult to break out of the habit though. Jedi weren't often found at such high society events unless they were needed for security. This was an exception, and one that they were both unsure how to adjust to.
Jia herself was trying to make the best of the situation, and let the sights and sounds all around her distract and amuse her. Though she had managed to relax considerably and overcome much of the emotional turmoil that had plagued her following her and Rin's encounter with Elysis and Vorxere, the girl was still not fully past the feelings that had taken her over. She still struggled at times. The fear, the anger, the resentment, the pain of loss, all constantly threatening to overwhelm her. But she had Rin, and Rin wouldn't let that happen. As long as she knew that, she knew she would be ok.
Rin, whose side she hadn't left since they arrived. Her master wasn't a very social person. She was more outgoing than she used to be, but Jia could tell that big parties like this were not really the type of environment that Rin found enjoyable. It didn't help that some groups of the other guests noticed the Jedi and became overcome with the desire to wander over and try to start conversation with the one who was clearly the older and more experienced of the two, forcing her to be the center of attention.
Rin probably could have driven them away herself, but Jia was on top of things so she didn't have to. For most of the night she had been intercepting the curious partygoers who approached them, drawing their attention away from Rin by asking them questions before they could get too involved in a conversation with the Miraluka. Lots, and lots of questions. Something Jia was very skilled in. Surprisingly, it seemed that most of these people weren't huge fans of having a curious teenage girl, Jedi or not, ask them tons of questions about things they didn't want to talk about. It usually only took a few minutes before they politely excused themselves and retreated to another area of the gathering. Then Jia would flash Rin a small, victorious smile.
It wasn't as if they didn't want to be there. Well... Maybe Rin didn't want to be. Jia wasn't exactly sure what had made her agree for them to show up here tonight. But there they were, though not doing so well playing the part of guests. The teenager wouldn't have minded wandering the party and talking to some of the people there. She was a social person and liked meeting new people. But she had no real idea how to act around these people. All of them were wealthy, successful and sophisticated. The Mirialan girl was pretty sure she had never acted sophisticated in her life.
She didn't know what these people surrounding her would expect of her, or what they would want to talk about with her. If her little deflection technique she had been using all night to help Rin secure her privacy was any indication, the answer was nothing that she herself was actually interested in. Maybe they all just weren't so intrigued by the idea of a young girl who wasn't even truly a full Jedi yet.
So she would stay with Rin, where she would rather be. Where she felt comfortable, and knew how she was meant to act: Like herself.
She turned aside to Rin, who had been quiet for a while now. She tilted her head slightly as if studying her. "Having fun?" She teasingly questioned the Miraluka with a small, lopsided grin on her face.
