Name: Rakia Sententa
Race: Human
Age: 12
Height: 5'4
Weight: 110 pounds
Birth place: Naboo
Appearance: Shoulder-length red hair that Rakia tends to like to keep held in a plait down her back, though when released from its confines, it flows down past her shoulders in gentle waves. She has green eyes. She is tall for her age, most of her height coming from her long legs which give her a graceful yet long stride. Her arms are also of slightly longer than average length for a human, thus when practicing her basic lightsabre form her movements look almost dance-like when she gets it right.
Personality: Rakia in an intelligent girl with a passion for learning all she can and as such works hard at any task given to her. Her memory is good, absorbing facts and figures like a sponge absorbs water, and she ultimately wishes to use her knowledge for good. Whilst she works hard however, she also has a mischievous side and has been known to pull some of the best pranks with the other younglings of the temple. She loves to laugh and because of her impish and approachable nature finds it easy to make friends; however trust does not come easily and must be worked for with her. She is shy and reserved around those older than her and people she doesn’t trust and one of her biggest downfalls is her temper which tends to flair easily when provoked and makes her usually calm and collected thinking clouded.
Faction: Jedi
Rank: Padawan Learner
Bio: Born in the outskirts of Theed, Rakia lived alone with her mother - Larama Setenta - since birth. She has no memory of her father and despite her asking many a time, her mother always refused to part with any knowledge she had of him. Despite sometimes struggling for basic things like food and clothes, her early childhood of which she could remember was not an unhappy one. Her mother was kind and caring, always trying to give Rakia the best she could in life. One of Rakia's favorite memories was when she was around 5 years old, and her mother took her one night to sit by the Solleu River, just looking up at the stars. There were no words, just the comforting feeling of her mothers arms around her, loving and protective. Even at that young age, Rakia had the desire to know what was up there in those stars, to know where the different people they sometimes saw in their trips to town came from in those big ships of theirs - and it was not something that went unnoticed by her mother. Larama craved a different life for Rakia, hating the slippery and dangerous slope her child was already heading down in her quest for both knowledge and security for the family. At 5, Rakia had gotten used to sneaking around the market stalls and snatching essentials and little treats for her mother, also somehow finding her way into Theed University's library's, hiding in a corner drinking in all information she could before she was caught and thrown out. Larama knew her daughter was special and growing more intelligent beyond her years as each day passed...and she also knew it wouldn’t be long before Rakia would be caught doing the illegal activites she did. What she hadn’t anticipated was the arrival of a Jedi on her doorstep, informing her that her only child, her special little girl had whatever it was the Jedi looked for in their recruits....and they now wanted to take her baby away to train her to be one of them. It would mean probably never seeing her daughter again, would mean if she was accepted and trained Rakia would be doing one of the most dangerous jobs a person could do. Yet, despite all these risks, it was a way out for Rakia of the life she was currently leading. It was a chance for her baby girl to see the stars and other worlds she desperately wanted to, to actually make something of her life than get stuck in the loop Lamara was. She knew if she told Rakia of the choice, however, it was highly unlikely Rakia would leave...so she didn’t. Waiting until the dead of night when Rakia slept, Lamara took her daughter from her bed and carried her to the waiting transport, handing the little girl over to the Jedi who was waiting with it. The last thing Rakia could vaguely remember in her semi-conscious state, was Larama pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead and hearing the gentle lullaby her mother would always sing at bedtime to soothe her to sleep.
She had never been so frightened as she was when she woke up alone on that strange transport. The woman next to her had tried to comfort her, explain to her where she was going and what she was going for, but she wouldn't listen. Living in the outskirts of Theed and being of a poorer background, Rakia hadn't socialized with people much and had only ever talked to people with her mother next to her. She couldn’t understand why all of the sudden she was on her own, surrounded by strangers with her mother no-where in sight. Bringing her knees up to her chest and burying her face on her knees, she cried quietly the rest of the trip to Coruscant, never being one for attracting attention to herself. She felt abandoned, scared and alone, that feeling only compounding more when the one person her mother had apparently trusted to take care of her left her with other strange adults at the Jedi Temple.
It wasn’t until she was put with children her own age that she started to feel a little more secure...the children she was with also had no parents to look after them, just the people that were around them, and yet they seemed happy enough. In fact all they could talk about was the great adventures that they would go on when they were old enough, how cool it would be to learn to fly ships and battle enemies and visit so many different planets. Slowly her mind began to open to the idea of being in the Temple, learning the skills she apparently had locked away inside her somewhere that the Jedi would help her to utilize and before long she was diving head first into the experience. Her love of learning and her quick mind and memory propelled her forwards in her training, as well as her ability to be able to sit still for more than a minute unlike the other children her age. It soon became apparent that Rakia’s best abilities came from her sharp mind and intuition. Her telekinetic and telepathic abilities developed at a fast pace through her training whilst in comparison her saber skills lagged behind in development as she constantly tried to force her ungainly long legs and arms to so what she wanted them to, which only got harder as she got older as they grew with her. It wasn’t that she didn’t understand it, she understood how it was supposed to be done...it was the making them do it that frustrated her. She focused too much on what she was doing, as she did with everything else, despite being constantly told she had to just let go and let the force guide her movements. She was always the one when the blinders were on that let off yelps of pain as she got zapped by the harmless bolts.
By age 10, she had come out of her shell a lot more around the younglings and her connection with the force was strong and she’d gotten a somewhat better grasp with the lightsaber form she was learning. She had fun at the temple, pulling off pranks that only her sharp mind could devise and something she often got in trouble for, although it was hard to punish a child whose favourite activity was researching and learning. However, her friends were starting to be picked off as apprentices to Jedi Knights, leaving for days on end on adventures and seeing planets she could still only dream and read about. It wasn’t that she was behind everyone in her abilities, she was one of the best in her group...it was the fact she couldn’t get a good grip on her emotions. Her mother’s abandonment, with no goodbye, no warning stuck deep within her and it made it difficult for her to trust those who claimed they would protect her and look after her. It was a resentment and a fear she couldn’t let go of and 2 years later those walls still remained - and was probably one of the reasons she hadn't had a Master accept her as a Padawan. She shied away from people when her friends weren’t around and sought refuge in the Jedi data banks and sometimes in the training rooms. She didn’t mind being alone, she found it soothing and reassuring...at least alone, she couldn’t get hurt again.
It wasn't until a chance meeting happened with Jedi Knight Gabriel Alaris in the Jedi Archives that her life was suddenly turned around. Gabriel took her on as his Padawan, introducing her to the training and worlds she had only been able to dream of up until now. The training is rough, tough and often painful, but she tried hard whatever happens and slowly Gabriel is teaching her to bring down those walls she had built up and trust in both him and the force to protect her.
