Personality:
Dain is an odd mass of contradictions. In general the face he presents to the world is that of a happy young man, always ready with a joke, always smiling, and with just a touch of dashing.
When he was growing up, Dain had very set viewpoints on most subjects, and this has softened only slightly over recent years. He still considers the Sith evil and the Republic good, though he has begun to believe that there are a good many people and things that reside in the grey area between both extremes.
Dain is also, at a base level, a smartarse. This developed as part of his puberty period, and remains to this day. He will often make a joke at another's expense, which has led him into hot water situations on numerous occasions.
In private, however, when he finds himself alone with his thoughts, he often becomes a good deal more somber. His recent(relatively speaking) losses prey on his mind, and he easily becomes depressed when alone.

Bio:
Age 0-5
Dain was born to Reka and Arvel Graf on Mirial. Both bankers, his parents were very wealthy, though they were very rarely at home. They had not intended to have a child, as it would have interfered with their careers, however due to family pressure, most notably from his mother's side, actually having the child was considered the lesser of two bad options.
His early life was not a happy one,as after his mother died in childbirth, his father Arvel became reclusive, ignoring his son as much as possible, and while he did not at the time say so, he blamed his unwanted child for his wife's death.
The flip side of this neglect was that his father more or less threw money at his son, partly in an effort to appear a loving father to the public. As such, Dain was given the best the planet had to offer in terms of early education. He was found to be an intelligent young boy, and this was only encouraged by his learning.
Unfortunately, Dain lacked social skills early in his young life. He tried playing with other children, and for some reason they often shunned or ignored him. This confused him for some time, until his mid-puberty period.
Age 6-12
As Dain began to attend a private school, he began to form a rebellious streak. This was a misguided attempt to try to impress his father, of whom he was tired of being constantly ignored. The results of various pranks and stunts saw him transferred to three different private boarding schools in six years, and records indicate that he caused a total estimated damage of two hundred thousand credits in repairs, including knocking the head off of a bronzium statue of one school's founder.
Why exactly Dain chose to decapitate the statue is something of a legend on that particular campus. Popular student legend has it that he managed to take off the several hundred pound head using a vibroaxe to shear through the material, and that he still has the axe. Dain today would chuckle and shakes his head before hinting that he might still have the axe, which in reality he never possessed.
This did not have the desired effect however, and instead of acknowledging his son, he further ignored him, much to Dain's annoyance. He still managed to gain a decent education through all of this however, and he does not consider it to have been wasted.
While the young, intelligent, athletic Dain was admired by the girls, who he showed little interest in, and loathed by the other boys for seemingly stealing the attention of the girls.
Were it not for his natural athleticism and a peculiar talent for avoiding trouble, he would have had many problems with bullies at school. As it was, most of the time he either avoided them or simply ran away. While not particularly proud of running and hiding, Dain was bright enough to realise that discretion was the better part of valour when facing children twice his own size.
When not rebelling or fleeing, however, Dain had a very positive school life. His teachers liked him, he demonstrated great intelligence in classes, frequently scoring in the top ten percent during tests.
Age 13-17
Puberty hit Dain like a brick wall. In addition to the usual changes, he rather quickly stopped caring what his father thought of him, and so pursued his own interests instead. In addition to taking several piloting courses and some...seedier pursuits, he befriended a young Echani-descended human girl who taught him the basics of their martial arts. This, mixed with the natural Mirialan quickness, made him quite a formidibale scrapper in time.
Such learning was not without it's setbacks however. Despite his natural athletics, Cuco, his friend, was far better than he was, having trained since her very young days. Even with precautions, Dain was occasionally hurt, once suffering a broken arm. To this day, he carries a faint scar in the place where it was broken, remnant of the surgery to have it fixed. Even now he regards the scar with some amusement, knowing that it will always be there as a reminder of his training.
Gradually however, Dain and the young Cuco grew closer, and by the time Dain was fifteen, they had acknowledged that they were in love. Knowing that they would receive no support from his father, they decided to leave the planet together and start a life with each other somewhere else. They made plans to steal a ship and make their way in the galaxy together.
They never made it off the planet. In the process of stealing a small ship, Dain was caught by a security guard trying to crack a security lock. Cuco was similarly caught when she attempted, perhaps unwisely, to attack the guard, only to receive a stun round in the chest. Dain was sent home and Cuco was deported to her home planet, Dantooine. His father, once again hoping to avoid any public attention, paid to have his son released and the charges dropped. Dain was confined to their home, and not allowed to leave the grounds at all. He remained in this state, little more than a prisoner, for another two years, until a chance discovery gave him the way out that he had so desperately been seeking.
This was the period at which his personality really formed itself. Their separation made Dain depressive, but he covered it up with a brave facade, not wanting to give his father the pleasure of seeing him suffer.
Age 17-19
Dain's isolation gave him a lot of free time. Lacking many options, he turned to computer studies, and eventually he turned to the less legal side of computers. The decision to turn to slicing came as a natural one for him. Annoyed, bored, and unable to do much else, his rebellious side led him naturally to the challenges and opprutinities that slicing presented.
As more of an act of bordeom than anything else, one day Dain hacked his father's home network. Surprisingly enough it wasn't a large challenge, and it became quickly obvious that his father was making deals with the Sith Empire, money laundering mainly. Dain made sure to copy the evidence of his father's dealings onto his datapad, which he promptly disconnected from the holonet to prevent his father taking it back.
The next day, Dain walked into his father's office and offered an ultimatum: His father would purchase a ship for Dain, register it to his son, and allow him to leave freely, or his dealings with the Sith Empire would become public and be turned over to the Republic. He calmly explained that the information had been forwarded to a holomail account seperate from his own, and that in the event that Dain did not access the account within four hours, the information incriminating him would be sent to the local Republic Security Forces.
His father was less than pleased to be extorted in this fashion. He ranted and raved, cursed and yelled, but eventually, as Dain simply stood in his office, a slight smile on his face, his father gave in.
Within three days, Dain had officially been given ownership of a brand new XS-Light Freighter. Before even stepping foot on the ship, he made sure that it wasn't connected to his father in any way, and that it was registered to him alone. He almost couldn't contain his excitement at finally being able to leave his world and make his way in the galaxy free of his father. He was, in fact, so eager to leave and inexperienced with the ship itself that he very nearly crashed into a hangar as he left.
His last act on leaving the Mirial system was to transmit the data incriminating his father to both the local authorities and the closest republic embassy.
Age 19-21(current)
Dain's first stop was Dantooine, in search of Cuco. It took a week of asking around before he could even confirm that there was an Echani settlement on the planet, and a further three days to forge himself the credentials needed to rent a speeder to allow him to travel to the settlement. Her parents, when he arrived after spending the day looking for Cuco's family, told him bluntly that their daughter had been killed three weeks previously by a group of wandering Mandalorians.
The news shocked Dain, rendering him completely broken. He spent the next two weeks aboard his ship, laying in bed and simply staring up at the cieling, imagining that it was the stars they had once watched together...
He eventually dragged himself back to life, more due to decreasing funds than a desire to work. His first job came almost as he was running out of money, and was getting desperate. While he wasn't thrilled with the idea, he took a simple spice run.
The experience was exhilarating for Dain. He quickly found himself drawn to "running", enjoying the thrill of the trade. After his initial spice run, which involved, among other things, narrowly avoiding a Sith customs ship, he immediately took on another job, running glitterstim to another planet.
One year and seventeen runs later, Dain has begun to fancy himself a decent smuggler. He has been boarded twice, and his cargo was hidden both times. He has modified his ship with the help of several smuggler mechanics, and even bought a pilot droid to serve as co-pilot and operate the weapons on his ship. And, perhaps most importantly, he had gained useful contacts among various smugglers, including several mechanics, a Sith Empire customs clerk who could forge ship transponder codes, and a Republic supplies procurement officer who occasionally "lost" shipments.
After a recent run-in with a Sith Patrol ship, Dain has decided to pursue a career of "legitimate smuggling," and is currently looking to approach the Republic, hopefully finding himself decent work, and gaining some small measure of revenge against the Sith in the process.

Dain leaned back in the pilot's chair and watched the starline flare of hyperspace with barley open eyes. He had been awake, working on installing a slicing suite in the cockpit position behind his, late into what passed as the night cycle aboard the ship, and was about to fall asleep. He should have known better than to stay up so long, he still had to land the ship in...he checked the chronometer...five minutes until hyperspace exit. The piloting droid wedged into the seat beside his could have done it for him, but he didn't like the droid flying itself. The last time he had allowed GD-73 to fly solo, he had almost crashed them straight into a dreadnought.
Watching the seconds tick by on the chrono, Dain's eyes drifted closed.....
And abruptly snapped back open as two alarms went off simultaneously. The first was the usual wail of hyperspace exit. The second he hadn't heard for some time. It took him a moment, as the starlines flared back into normal space, to realise it. And indeed, he wouldn't have picked up on it that quickly had he not chosen that moment to look out the viewport.
Filling most of the screen was the starboard side of a rapidly approaching Sith Customs Ship.
Had he not been startled to action, the ships likely would have collided. Instead, Dain's hands danced across the controls, and he
kicked the drives into reverse thrust, swinging the nose of the Cuco's Smile up and over the Sith ship. It took all of his strength on the control yoke to keep from smashing into the surface of the vessel, but he managed it.
The Smile cleared the top of the vessel with meters to spare. Dain breathed a sigh of relief, but his exclamation of joy was cut short by a voice coming over the comm.
"Bzzzz...Attention unidentified vessel, this system is under the control of the Sith Empire. Cut your engines and prepare to be boarded."
Dain sighed. Being boarded by the Sith was a death sentence if they found what he was carrying. He reached forward and began flicking switches rapidly, muttering his way down a checklist as he did so.
"Shields, double rear....Engines, full power....leave the blaster cannons offline, they won't do anything but take up power...."
And so, without so much as a moment's pause, Dain slammed the throttles forward and the Cuco's Smile shot off, away from the Sith ship. Over the sound of the engines, he thought that he heard the faint sounds of the comm again, but any communication was drowned out.
Watching on the rear sensors, it became apparent after about a minute that they had no intention of following him. Dain frowned, but certainly didn't feel bad about not being chased all over the system. When the frack had the Sith come to the Mirala system?
Some time later, cruising through hyperspace once more, Dain was laid in his bunk behind the cockpit. Staring up at the ceiling as he drifted off to sleep, he decided that perhaps he would contact the Republic after all...
