Planet Name: Oatara (oh-ah-tah-rah)
Planet Type: Terrestrial
Habitable: Yes
System: Oatara System (Map Grid B6, Outer Rim)
Terrain Overview: Oatara is a young planet with a single continent spanning the whole of the globe and several large islands, with approximately 40% land. The land itself is predominately dense jungle, with scattered grasslands. It remains almost entirely undeveloped, with a single city located on large island. The reason for that is largely the planet's dangerous ecology. The jungles are home to many dangerous plants, both poisonous and carnivorous.
The climate is tropical, ranging from 23.9 to 32 degrees depending on region and season. The majority of the plants in the jungle are bioluminescent, leading to exquisite views at night.
Quite interestingly, the planet has a strong magnetic field that can interfere with some technology. In certain areas, the field is strong enough that natural formations of metals and stone possessing the same charge are thrust upward and 'hover.' There are numerous small areas home to this effect, each with a different name.
The planet possesses numerous microclimates, with the result that even from mile to mile the weather may range from torrential rain to sunshine, and fluctuations of several degrees may take place during the course of a few hours.
The elevations, islands, and much of the coastal areas were all formed by volcanic activity, with the result that there are many black sand beaches that can draw attention.
Notable Geographic Features:
Alandril Ocean- The single ocean of the planet, it is brimming with large fish prized by anglers, leading to fishing being a popular pastime for settlers.
Devil's Gateway- A large open quarry begun decades ago and abandoned, it has fallen into disrepair, but is now a favorite spot for weapons training by hunters.
Raytel Canyon- In the middle of a dense forest valley and surrounded by mountains on three sides, this is the rainiest spot on Oatara, with maybe a week of sunshine in the year. It is also home to some of the lushest plant life in the galaxy, and colorful flowers that would catch the eye of the rich and elite.
Sunara Flats- The widest expanse of grassland on the planet, this is a rather safe and peaceful place, with a minimum of predators and a plethora of game animals. It is one of the more popular locations for hunters.
Capital City:
Waypoint- The city of Waypoint is a small outpost by most standards in the galaxy, serving only two functions: hunting exotic wildlife, and collecting medically valuable plants for conversion into biomedical supplies. It is sparsely populated, but caters to a revolving population of big game hunters, anglers, and spacers. It takes a special sort to live on Oatara though, a sort not commonly found.
Major cities:
Spearpoint Base-
The Spearpoint Base is a hidden facility that takes up the bulk of a volcanic island off the coast of the Oataran continent, nestled in a deep sound. It contains housing, recreational facilities, and logistics facilities for the whole of the Spearpoint private military. Officially, it is a members-only hunting lodge, possessing its own air strip. In terms of climate, the base receives over one hundred inches of rainfall each year, but never for extended periods. There is generally a light breeze, with temperatures in the summer rarely higher than 29.5 degrees, and rarely drops below 17 degrees in the winter, which is also the rainy season.

Sentient species: None Native
Immigrated-
Humans
Duros
Rodians
Twi'leks
etc
Non-Sentient species of note:
Glow-Wolf- This bioluminescent predator is a nocturnal pack hunter, reckoned as extremely dangerous. They are aggressive, and have been known to stalk and kill lone hunters. Image
Six Horn Bull- While technically just a grazing animal, this beast is extremely territorial and quite daunting at 3 meters tall. Image
Scale Shark- This large aquatic predator is prized by anglers who want a fight. Growing up to ten feet long, the shark puts up a ferocious fight, and once brought to the surface must be dispatched by a blaster rifle powerful enough to penetrate its armor. Image
Banshee. These flying reptavians are vicious, and will devour anything they come across. With a wingspan greater than a typical human's height, that includes most sentient species. Image
History: After the star in the Oatara system was formed and planetary formation began, moons began to form around the large gas giant of the system, Oa. Of these, one had an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere and was in the habitable zone, aided in its growth by a dense atmosphere causing a greenhouse effect. Life evolved there, in abundant forms. However, no sentient life ever evolved. Sentient life didn't even come to the system until 4000 BBY, when a scout ship charting the Salin corridor stopped, carrying out basic surveying. They determined the system had very little value, and it was all but forgotten for a thousand years.
A very minor tourism company secured the rights to develop the planet and investigated what could be done with it through a pair of five year exploratory missions. Ultimately they came to the conclusion that the moon was too dangerous for mainstream tourism, but had one pleasant quirk: Numerous species of plants had strong medicinal properties that could be refined into biomedical supplies. The tourism company sold a contract to the firm Rothesco to develop the resources, and set up a small settlement on a safe island, called Waypoint.
An advertising campaign in 3700 BBY began the next claim to fame for the wilderness planet. The campaign focused upon the wildlife, and the challenge for a big game hunter. It succeeded in attracting a new crowd of tourism, though the planet was still little more than a galactic footnote.
Nothing particularly changed with the arrival of war, shipments of goods still came and went, hunters still visited. Only one change was to take place worth noting.
In 3601BBY, the planet became the covert base of operations for Spearpoint, a private military organization dedicated to harming the Sith. They were determined to use its obscurity and proximity to Sith space to full effect.
