Faction Name:The Will of the Force
Faction Purpose:The Will exists to provide safety, happiness, and guidance to its members and the galaxy. A passive nation, they serve as a haven to those Force sensitives who seek protection and guidance. The Will is a lightsided organization, refusing to help those who seek to do evil or harm to others. The Will has guided many away from a path of darkness to one of peace and harmony. The Will is known to help those across the galaxy if they so request it.
Faction Planet:Maridun
Financial wealth:Low-Moderate.The actual faction itself doesn't generate significant income. It mostly agriculture since it is a small planet and trades little. Many of its members though have obtained large wealth through their various methods in the past. Thus the collective wealth of the members brings it to a moderate level overall.
Military assets:Minimal. The Will has a small Navy which is on over watch by a committee. Its main purpose is to combat any possible pirate attacks on the planet. A small percentage of the members have their own private security, but minimal, only for their personal protection. Considering a large percentage of the Will is former Jedi/Dark Jedi, it tends to deter any ideas of invasion.
Form of Government:Informal Aristocracy. Though each member of the Will is equal, they tend to differ decisions to a small group of landowners. These landowners take it upon themselves to make sure that the Will is governed smoothly and justly.
Faction History:
The Will of the Force was founded 15 years ago(3617BBY) by Darigaaz, a wayward Togorian. 8 years prior to its founding Darigaaz had stumbled upon the planet, seeking refuge from his past. There he led a quiet life, not bothered by the rest of the galaxy. He soon found his calling, travelling around helping the other residents, slowly garnering respect and admiration. The residents soon pleaded for him to take position of their local magistrate. Darigaaz grudgingly accepted the position, mostly because he believed he was unfit for the job. He approached it as he would any job, putting his full efforts in to bettering the living conditions for the local population.
The settlement on Maridun remained untouched by outsiders until Darigaaz’s fourth year there. A small vessel had crashed on the outskirts of colony, which by this time was thriving and growing in size and population. The Togorian had decided to check it out himself, upon arriving he found two severely injured men. He quickly brought them back to the town for medical care; unfortunately they wouldn’t be the last visitors that day. The next ship to arrive did not crash, instead it was full of bounty hunters. Darigaaz knew the two men he had rescued both carried lightsabers, it didn’t take much thought to put two and two together. The Togorian refused to hand the two over, the mercenaries gave him until nightfall to change his mind. Darigaaz arranged a small resistance force, it was his town, and the mercs were on his turf. They did return, but with strategy and Darigaaz’s prowess the bounty hunters were sent home bloodied but alive.
The two men revealed themselves as former Jedi who were being hunted by a crime lord, a plight to which Darigaaz was sympathetic. He offered them a place to live, they refused for the time, but told him they would return in time. Though the Togarian was unaware, the two had spread the word of Darigaaz’s kindness. Then two years after the incident with the mercenaries, the two gray jedi returned but this time in greater numbers. They had brought more seeking refuge for their own personal reasons and soon found their niche in large town. Many shared the same dark taint on their past, so along with Darigaaz they sought an answer through the Force. The small group studied the Force from various perspectives in search for an answer to a question they didn’t even know.
Thus it was two years, and more refugees later that Darigaaz officially founded The Will of the Force. While not widely known in the galaxy, its deeds were known in various small circles. This time the small colony to which Darigaaz had arrived was closer to a small city than a large town. It wasn’t just off worlders either, others from various settlements across Maridun travelled to the newly christened Providence to seek a better life.
The next fifteen years would mark significant growth in the Will and its following. Many fallen Jedi found their way to Providence, seeking guidance from those that resided there. Some found peace and remained on Maridun, others went back to the Jedi Order. It was through this that The Will became known to the Jedi Order. The Order while not necessarily fond of the Will, could not deny their use. The Will was essentially sending back Jedi they would have otherwise lost to a darker path. Their work throughout the galaxy while small created a rocky relationship with the Republic. They were fulfilling the desires of citizens, especially in the Rim, that the Republic could not do. It irked and satisfied the Republic at the same time, thus creating only a minimal interest in the Order.
Many of those that sought a place in the Will, were also significantly wealthy and/or elder members. It was these people who began to own land, and form the aristocracy that governs the Will. The Will is comprised up of many different people, from multiple backgrounds, so there is obviously tension. Violence has never been a result of differing ideas or philosophies in the Will, for they all agree that violence will not bring about peace. It is important to recognize that while the Will accepts those seeking help, it is careful of who they accept. Many a time those who would use their influence or power to try and rule those of the Will have tried to enter and have been rejected.
Throughout its 15 years since establishment, the Will of the Force has grown exponentially but remains a sleeping nation in terms of galactic politics. They have no desire or need to involve themselves with the Republic, Jedi, or Sith Empire. They house a variety of people from across the galaxy, all who have joined to obtain a goal through pacifism. The Will of the Force exists to harbor, protect, and guide those of the galaxy who are in need.
