In Pursuit Of Justice

This was just great, now there were Jedi. There wasn't any greater way of saying, 'you suck at your job' than having Jedi come along and do it for you. Detective Sergeant Yarl Su'ban sat in the briefing room, their Captain detailing specifics of the case to the recently arrived group. These Jedi didn't look like amazing detectives, just some idiots in bath robes, and now all they were going to do is get in the way of the case.

The bothan rarely found occasion to smile, Mia could attest to that quite easily. Always so grumpy, he needed to find some joy in his life. Of course, her up-beat attitude rarely seemed to help make her warm and fuzzy partner even remotely warm or fuzzy. They both knew the details of the case, their Captain wanted to handle this proceedure though, politics or some such thing no doubt. But once he was finished, questions asked, it was down to the two of them to handle these Jedi. And there were four of them no less.

With a shaking of hands and enthused ideals of co-operation, the Captain and all the other present members of the CSF exited the briefing room, leaving the two detectives and the Jedi together so that they could get aquainted.

Yarl Su'ban stood there, quite clearly displaying that he had no desire to talk with these Jedi. Instead it was Mia Quinn who first spoke.

"So, like the Captain said, I'm Mia Quinn and this is Detective Sergeant Yarl Su-ban. So what is it you Jedi do? Somebody said that you can do all sorts of fancy magic tricks. Can you read minds? I can see that coming in handy."

"Mia." Yarl spoke, trying to get her to stop. She'd never worked with Jedi before, and combine that with her unrelenting energy, this was going to be one enormous headache.

"I'm just trying to make conversation Yarl, Captain said we were to get along and work together to solve this case."

"Ha. They're not super detectives, all they'll do is get in the way."

"I'm sorry about him," Mia said to the Jedi, "he doesn't play well with others. Don't worry though he's a big softie on the inside. So what are your names? Jedi do have names don't they?"

Excitement bubbled in the depths of Moonfire's stomach she stood quietly in the room full of Jedi. She, merely a Padawan, came along with her Master for this exciting adventuer. Or at least, she hoped it was an exciting adventure.The High Councillor and Youngling Teacher Si Quan had taken over training Moonfire after the disappearance of Master Teiko a few years before. After drifting in limbo for a while he had stepped forward, his own Padawan Kyo having finally gained the rank of Knight.

The last few days involved Moonfire obsessing over the idea of the mission; they were too help the Coruscanti security force on a case, it was a really big deal! In her head she had romantised the mission already, her imagination running wild. Thrilling chases and grateful people, it was going to be thrilling! And maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't fall down or embarrass herself. She never did that in her fantasies.

Of course the moment they entered the large room and Moonfire just barely tripped over the door jamb, stumbling before suddenly catching herself. Her face burned crimson as the girl internally scolded herself. Steadily regaining control of her face the dark haired girl stood quietly, watching and waiting as the other Jedi filed in, waiting for the presiding officers to address them.

The bothan wasn't thrilled to see them, though the girl, Mia seemed far friendlier, asking them questions and asking for their names. Moonfire, always eager to make a friend all but blurted out her name in response.

"Moonfire Esense." A moment of silence ticked by. "That's... my name." Her voice squeaked and creaked with awkward. This was going to be quite a night.

Sellah was having trouble focusing on the task at hand. Her mind was racing through the Coruscanti underbelly, her nose twitching for any trace of the Shadow Claw's scent, even though she was still in the CSF office. Her spine tingled, her... claws itched, and this preponderance of red tape was steadily putting a bad taste in her mouth.

Justice was demanding her attention. She had been assured, by her master, that most of those rogue vigilantes posed no harm to citizens. They did not necessarily lighten the burden of the law enforcement, but they did not amplify it either. They could be left alone, until that fact changed. And now this Shadow Claw had crossed the line, and the justice he had once served now demanded his blood.

The matter was set in Sellah's mind. The claw marks, were they all the same depth? A mechanical blade? Or did they taper like real claws, indicating a race such as hers? She needed to get to the crime scene, fill her nose with his smell and-- give her name.

She looked up, ears swiveling forward and eyes opening wider as Moonfire spoke. She silently cursed herself, how foolish. Every moment she needed to be aware, in every place, of every person. It was impossible to predict when danger came, she should not have let her guard down no matter how boring and frustrating these meetings were. She'd had to endure many of them in her periodic work with the CSF.

"Sellah Bellae," she said, returning fully to the present. She was beginning to like this Yarl fellow, he seemed to approach the matter with the appropriate level of seriousness. The other, Mia, seemed far too caught up in the novelty. A potentially innocent man had died, this was no time for levity.
