Name: Bao Redrik
Race: Zabrak
Age: 41 standard years
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 204 lbs
Appearance:
Bao is both tall and muscular: in combination with his ring of sharp horns, he is quite an intimidating figure. His skin is a deep brown, but a pale scare runs from his right ear to the left-side of his mouth. He bore no ceremonial Zabraki facial tattoos, due to his growing up on Ord Mantell away from his people, but adopted them later in life. His eyes and hair are black as charcoal; the latter, which Bao wears in a braid, is graying near the scalp.
Personality: Bao is unorthodox, considered by some in the Order to be more of a "Grey Jedi". His experiences have led him to disregard a black-and-white perspective of the world: Bao believes there is evil within even the most devout Jedi Master. Furthermore, he holds that the ends can justify the means: a small act of evil is sometimes necessary for the achievement of the greater good. That being said, Bao sees merit in trying to follow the light and tries his best to do so. He is slow to anger, but when enraged his anger is fierce and violent. While he may disagree with his Order on many a subject, often openly arguing with the council, he remains adamantly loyal to the Jedi. Bao has frequent nightmares in which he is haunted by the ghosts of his sister Trizzy and his first apprentice. He blames himself for both of their deaths and refuses to forgive himself.

Bio:
Bao's grandparents fled to Ord Mantell as a flock of Sith Empire supporters during the Great Galactic War, attempting to hide from the Republic on the lawless junkyard world. The planet had begun its long fall into decay with the Republic occupation during the Separatist threat: it soon became a haven for criminals and exiles alike. The corrupt government was only Republic by name, and slums rose outside the major cities. Lok and Zuri, both small children when their tribes migrated to Ord Mantell, grew up together in the Iridonian ghetto outside Drelliad. In their late teens, the couple gave birth to Bao in the year 3642 BBY.
Lok, unable to find a real job, worked as a thug for a local government worker. Smugglers bribed the government with spice to look the other way, and "unofficial" workers were often paid with the illegal substance: the spice could then be traded on the black-market for food or other goods. Like many in his position, Lok could not resist temptation and succumbed to this steady spice supply to escape from the wretched existence of the slums.
Childhood: Bao was born on Ord Mantell in [fix year]. The junkyard planet was never glorious, but by this time it had fallen into a truly neglected state. Crime ran rampant, and nobody did anything to stop it. Bao's parents were both spice addicts, and he was forced to raise his little sister by himself. By the age of 4, Bao and Triza--his sister two years the younger--had to steal from local junk merchants to afford to eat.
Adolescence: Bao and Triza lived as petty thieves for years, coming home to their spiced-up parents every night. Life continued like this until Bao's 7th year. As a "joke" one day, their parents spiked the food with spice while the two children were out. Unknowingly the siblings ate the spice-laced meal: when they woke up 54 hours later, they were addicted. Bao, being force-sensitive, was able to fight off the horrible withdrawal symptoms and tried to help his little sister, but she became too sickly to walk. Bao went out and searched for medicine or something to help Triza, but when he returned Bao found his sister dead. Unable to resist, she turned to her parents for spice and overdosed.
Enraged, Bao flew into a fit of anger and tried to attack his parents, but the two adult Zabrak were easily able to fight off the seven year old. He spent all night burying Triza then fled into the slums. A month later, half-starved and scavenging for anything edible, Bao was mugged by a group of thugs. Even with nothing of value to defend, Bao tried to fight them off with tooth, nail, and horn. Impressed by his fury, the leader of the gang recruited the young Zabrak. Bao was taught how to fight and handle a swoop. Things were looking up, relatively speaking, for the next four months. The gang treated him like family, although he was haunted every night by thoughts of his sister Trizzy. However, the gang owed money to a local crime lord for damages in a swoop race and the Gran Aok Bok had come to collect. Bao knew that if his parents had a decent spice stash--and they always did--it could pay back a sizable portion of the debt. So the next night, the teenage Zabrak led the way back to his former home. The thugs woke his parents and, realizing what they were after, desperately tried to fight them off. The spiced-up couple were no match, however, and Bao did nothing as the gang beat his parents to death--just as they had done nothing and let his sister die. Although he never regretted his inaction, it worsened the nightmares of his dead sister. He left the gang as a result, wandering on his own until his Force-Sensitivity was discovered by a Jedi visiting the planet.
Adulthood: Although coming to the Jedi late, at the age of 8, Bao was determined and learned quickly. By the age of 23 he achieved the rank of Jedi Knight and took his first apprentice. The boy died on a mission with his teacher, however, and Bao blamed himself entirely. Bao refused to take on another apprentice, viewing himself as a failure of an instructor, and spent the next 12 years working as a solo operative within the Jedi Order.
