Culture:On the lone Desert planet of Arthonia, a group of settlers, mostly females, tapped into an ability many called witch-craft. Calling it 'The Psi', it became a bastion of their culture. Their religion held sway over nearly everything they did, including their actions. As such, to one another, they refer to them as either, Sister, or United soul. Indeed, this belief united them beyond what the humanoid race ruling them thought possible. Referring to themselves as 'The Unity', the Arthonian culture found out a disturbing fact, that only females could posses the Psi. This made the Arthonians favor female births much more than males, but knew they couldn't neglect members of their own species. Thus, it became traditional for Males to make up the working and civilian populace, while the Females used their Psi powers to conquer the hard-ships of Arthonia. In their culture, young-males are searched for the legendary 'Yertani Gurtan', which would be a Male that possessed all the strength of the Males, yet the Psi of the females. Said to only come around once every millenia, these tests are a hard-ship of things, including having to try and tap-into the Psi and defeat one of the most dangerous predators on Arthonia, the giant Dune-worm. The Dune-worm is a symbol of power in their culture, as the earliest settlers were simply devoured by these monstrous beasts.
History:
Early History
In the murky Pre-Republic days, the Rakatan Empire overlooked a small quadrant of space near the edge of the Outer Rim. This cluster of space was home to a humanoid race that had a thirst for conquering new planets. The closest to their Terran home was a desert world, later named Arthonia. An amount of Human settlers was sent to the planet, and quickly learned the hardships of the desert. Upon arriving, they noticed that the humanoids seem to neglect them, and as such started becoming more and more self-sufficient. Slowly learning how to deal with the massive dune-worms and sandstorms, these settlers soon discovered something that would change their lives, forever.
The Psi
Over-time, the Female settlers noticed something strange, the ability to tap into a force greater than them. Calling it, 'The Psi', it quickly became a significant part of their culture, while only females were known to posses it. With this power, they learned how to tame the Dune-worms, and overcome the planets challenges. Many describe the Psi as being something close to the Force, except more peaceful and enlightening, although the Arthonians eventually found ways to use it in combat. Beginning to experiment on minds of males and others, they noticed that nearly no males could tap into the Psi. However, some Arthonian Psi-masters came up with the belief that the thing that produced the Psi was just more common in females than males, and said that someday, maybe a male with these abilities would be born, but with nearly unparalleled strength.
Exile and The Unity
However, when a humanoid supply ship landed on Arthonia, he took note of the horrendous experiments being done on the males to find, 'The Yertani Gurtan'. The Emperor at that time decided that to protect his people, they would need to exile them.
Giving them a few colony ships, the Arthonians didn't agree at first, but without the technology of the humanoids, stood no chance when they came to push them off the land. Exiling them to the edge of known space, they found a terran planet which they colonized. Adopting a Unity, where no one was left behind, made their species start to over-come their hard-ships. Soon, they developed a lust for revenge, and a new and terrifying company was born, Psitech. Using the Psi to make fearsome machines, including remotely piloted fighters connected not by electricity, but by telekinesis. But most of the Arthonians knew the only way to exterminate the humanoids would be by space. As such, Arthonian researchers went to work at developing space-craft. When the first space-craft arrived by reverse-engineering the colony ships, they were sleek, deadly, and efficient. Colonizing an ice-world with these new craft, they found an abundance of crystal. Realizing that crystal could be focused into a laser beam, the Arthonians began to master beam-technology. After one-thousand years, a massive armada had been constructed, and the Arthonians set a course to their home, intent on taking it back and exterminating the humanoids that did this.
Return
Returning at a time when the humanoids had given up their ways of slavery and colonizing, and started trading instead. Thus, when the massive armada of combat-vessels arrived, they were woefully unprepared. The only resistance encountered were trade-ships mounted with inferior weaponry, and Arthonia was taken back efficiently. For the next 25 years, the Arthonians armada moved throughout the humanoid's colonies, bombarding every single one of them to dust, making their surface not colonizable or even habitable. Upon retaking Arthonia, the Arthonians discovered what the galaxy today calls spice. Spice boosted the Arthonian war-machine by providing means of currency, and it even became as valuable as a Dune-worm. However, their trade wouldn't flourish until 100 years later. At the closing years of the war, the desperate humanoids finally managed to develop a warship, the first dedicated warship in one-thousand years. However, it was too-late, as the Arthonian armada had obliterated their shipyards. When the Arthonians arrived at the terran planet, they found the humanoids fighting each-other, and waited until the surviving faction would emerge. For three weeks, the humanoids fought against each-other until noticing the scout-ship at the edge of their system. The remaining factions were too weak to defend against the Arthonian armada. The terran planet was bombed, and the humanoids extinct. The Arthonians pulled back to Arthonia and isolated themselves for 100 years.
Discovery and the Yurtani Gurtan
When the Republic found this small quadrant, they were amazed at what they saw. Only volcanic planets were left, except for one desert planet. As the colony ship got closer, they were pounced on by the armada. This lead to the Republic navy to respond, and a small war raged on. The Arthonians, while possessing excellent technology, couldn't keep up with the new Republic vessels. At this time, a male who was passing the tests was rising, and many believed that he could be the Yurtani Gurtan. Except for one problem: He thought they should stop the fighting and simply join the Republic. Despite nearly no-one agreeing with him, he passed the final test and was granted command of the remaining armada. When the Republic ships arrived over Arthonia, they were amazed at how the ships didn't shoot, and the Jedi Commander sensed a Telepathic message. It read: "Please stop firing, we only wish peace.". The Admiral was skeptic at first, while the Jedi was intrigued as to how they sent this telepathic message. When the leading flagship let the Republic board, they came into contact with them. Tensions ran high, until the Jedi spoke up, and asked that they please let them on the planet. The Yurtani Gurtan complied and noticed they spoke the same language. When the Republic Soldiers landed on the planet, the Queen noticed their advanced technology, and gladly joined the Republic. Although the newest race in the galaxy, they have a monopoly of Spice trade, as Arthonia is easier to access than Ryloth.
