Salt kissed winds roar from the waterway leading out to the sea. Overbearing cliffs stand vigilant on either side of the calm river. The sun begins go set and it starts to tinge the world with pink. The land is silent, this untouched paradise untouched by civilization yet. Facing each other from across the river stand two individuals, brought here by destiny itself... Ark’s thick metal feet echoed across the plane as the struck the rocky ground along the edge of the canyon he was following towards the crash site to the west. To the south along the top of the plateau ark could see four legged beast stomping trough a thin scrub land far across the waving grasslands. To the north ark could see a very similar plateau across the deep fairly narrow canyon.
Ark stopped for a moment on the ridge to check his nav system for the emergency beacon location. As he waited for the system to triangulate on the location he looked down into the swiftly running river down at the bottom of the deep canyon. A blip sounded across the audio portion of his mind as the navigation system finished its job compiling the location of the shuttles crash. On the three dimensional map showed itself almost two hundred feet below him and father to the west along the canyon. Ark’s photoreceptors rolled through settings as he looked up river towards the crash site into the sun. He shifted slightly as the wind picked up across the largely bare plateau’s tops.

Roq was moving low and silent through the grass, his body remembering what his mind could not. Thousands of years on Astrum, with its plains and oceans and cliffs and skies, had woven their way into his genetic code.
His awareness spread out far in each direction, the force giving a general sense of things, his eyes gathering immaculate detail. The mission at hand couldn't stop him from appreciating the weather, the taste of salt on the wind, the warmth of the sun on the leather of his wings, the sounds of beetles moving on the dirt and the sound of worms and small mammals below it. Though Roq could only remember his life before the Coruscanti temple with the distant vagueness of a dream, places like this just felt right. Natural.
The cyborg, however, was not natural. Or well, he was. But only partly. Like Coruscant; its skin and guts were metal, but life, people, flowed through it. This landscape had him being rather poetic, maybe he could pass the time starting on his memoir.
However, as Roq slunk along the northern edge of the canyon, heading west, it soon became clear that keeping an eye on the cyborg had been a good idea. Roq had had no intention of drawing any attention to himself, content to let the man be, but they seemed to be heading in the same direction. As the man continued, coming up with any explanation for his presence other than the fact that the two had the same goal would have taken a more creative mind than Roq's.
Roq picked up his pace to a trot, moving past the man by the space of a dozen or so yards, before emerging onto bare rock, his talons resting over the edge of the cliff and wings rising slightly as he resettled them.
"Hello there!" He called, and his voice carried strongly over the canyon. "I really hate to be a bother, but, I can't let you continue in this direction. So, if you would be so kind, as to perhaps go back the way you came, then neither of us need be terribly bothered."
He tilted his head amicably, and waiting for the cyborg's reply. Given the rather... combat-ready appearance of the man, Roq guessed that his attempt at diplomacy wouldn't go very well, but he had a duty to at least try.
The contents of that shuttle, biological as well as physical, made the matter of securing it first very grave indeed.

Ark continued moving along the ridge with only a fraction of his attention being actually focused on the area around him instead he kept his focus down to where white rapids and silver flashes of some alien fish churned in the river below. Red blossomed across his peripheral vision as his body responded to data that hadn’t quite registered to ark’s conscious mind. Coming to a stop ark lifted his left hand up over his shoulder to grip the hilt of the heavy blaster repeater magnetically attached to his back. Tilting his head down slightly as a small winged creature burst out of the grass near him.
Ark watched carefully as the greyish lizard started to speak his throaty voice drifting over towards him. With a sigh the large cyborg wrenched the repeater off his back and allowed the arm baring it to hang freely at his side. Ark shrugged as the strange little creature twittered on at him. “I’m afraid I can’t abandon my vod.” Ark raised his rifle up to rest it in his free hand. “Furthermore, seeing as this is my world and my brothers I’m not clear why I should stand aside from your path.” The cyborg stopped speaking and tilted his head at the small greyish creature. “Whatever you might be.” Ark said wondering what the strange creature was or could do in preparation ark slid his feet apart and bent his knees ready. “Seeing the situation as it is I would be much obliged if you would vacate and allow me to pick up the mando’ad in piece.”

Upon first meeting Roq, most people were surprised to hear the Graarl speak, what with his quadruped gait and feral nature. He wasn't sure if this fellow's non-reaction was refreshing or disappointing. One did tend to take certain things for granted.
Roq was at the wrong angle to see what the man was reaching for, so he wound back in his memory to the glances he had taken when he was still behind him. The images were incredibly crisp in his mind, and Roq recognized the shape of a heavy blaster before focusing back in on the present.
The man's movement compelled Roq to call upon a whisper of the Force, but it remained unneeded for the moment as the blaster hung to his side. As he listened to the man speak, the slightest glimmering began to gather on his scales, congealing into a nearly transparent shell, appearing more as the slightest of ethereal glows than anything else. Also in the spirit of preparation, he stretched his wings out, each strut lifting towards the sky. While his wings were furled, the cartilaginous struts were soft, allowing agility and flexibility of movement without risk to the delicate structures. The cost of versatility was time, and as the blood drained from his wings, they grew rigid in preparation for flight.
He considered the man's words, weighed the advantages and pitfalls of sharing his identity and purpose. The words the other man had chosen belied his allegiance, and Roq decided that he would not do the same. The Mandalorians did not necessarily have a history of diplomacy with the Jedi, and while Roq greatly preferred an amicable settlement, he did not expect one. It was best, then, to hold his identity close, and as such to both maintain some element of surprise and to prevent invoking the ancient conflict of honor that had a way of making battles much more bloody and prideful than they ever needed to be.
The man's defensive, preparatory stance indicated to Roq that he was prepared to back his insistence with action.
"Unfortunately, I'm not willing to do so either. I'd greatly prefer to sit down with you and explain my goals fully, and let you do the same, and then we could discuss potential solutions, and only after choosing one that was mutually beneficial would we proceed to action. However, time is an exceedingly delicate and valuable commodity at the present juncture, so if you won't leave, I'll have to detain you."
Roq's tone seemed to find this legitimately regrettable, though he seemed neither hesitant nor indecisive as his wings stroked downward and he leapt from the cliff.
Sometimes, the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order simply had to do things he did not want to do.
The Graarl soared west, banking to his left and sweeping downwards to a space on the southern wall of the canyon, ahead of the man. The intent was to physically head him off, to simply incapacitate him until the passengers and cargo of the ship could be secured. Roq expected this to turn out to be harder than it seemed.
Blaster bolts would simply be absorbed by his ethereal second skin, which was summoned from the Force through concentration. If not interrupted, he would land on the southern side to place himself between the man and the crash site. However, the aggression of the man and what other moves he might make, Roq could not predict...

Ark stood stock still locked in the staring match with the strange sentient creature before him. Despite centuries of experience ark could not place the species despite his efforts to recall weaknesses for this species. The creature began to shimmer as the seconds passed and ark’s hand tightened its grip on the blaster rifle, its hilt groaning slightly under the undue pressure, while the species may be escaping him he could recognize the force’s impact on air well enough.
As the creature took to the air ark paused a moment, unmoving, so he could process the new information a force user was always a dangerous and unpredictable foe even with the abilities and knowledge he himself processed. For now, ark decided as he brought the blaster rifle up and let the floating reticle flashing across his “eye” drift before the creature, he would endeavor to keep his knowledge of the creature’s force ability from it. Ark calmly depressed the trigger of the repeater allowing a torrent of yellow green bolts boil through the air towards a spot a few feet of where he expected the force user to be with the intention of perhaps convincing his opponent dodge rather than trust his shield.
With the super-heated bolts still in midflight ark broke into a sprint his weight and the force of his foot falls cracking stone underfoot. Whilst running at a good trot ark was aware that a being moving at perhaps twenty or thirty kilometers per hour was not going to beat a flying creature. Still thundering along ark slapped the repeater back to its position on his back before reaching down to his thigh’s where a pair of flechette carbines rested. Ark hoped the now soaring creature would attribute his switching to a different weapon a response to the cyborg’s own movement rather any kind of insight on his part. The carbines rested easily in arks oversized metallic hands as he turned to see where the creature was heading before hefting both carbines towards the flying creature.
Ark did not know what the storm of plasma bolts had accomplished and he expected little else to occur from his next attack; despite that he let both guns sing out. The matched rifles both sent a shell out, the first a split second after the other, at speeds well beyond the sound barrier as the moved out they would split into a combined total of twenty-eight long darts superheated to what would normally be near their melting point. Ark determined not to let the force user stop him decided to use the jets and maneuvering drives dotting his body to attempt to beat the creature to its intended landing point. The sound of electrical systems and the scent of ozone could be detected for a moment as the drives on his back spun to life propelling ark, who was now skidding across the rocks and grass, at a much increased speed.
In preparation for making a sudden stop ark slapped the carbine back into its position on his thigh and cutting the thrusters on his back. Thirty feet shy of where he expected his and the creature’s path to meet ark spun and dug both his feet and his left hand into the rock facing digging long deep furrows in the stone as he grinded to a halt. With both feet wide ark pulled his arms up into a wide stance with his right grasping the carbine loosely while his left stood tense with its fingers spread wide in hopes of seizing the creature.

Roq's course gave the bolts of light no mind, his wings did not hesitate in their course. As the first bolt struck the shield, circles of yellow and green radiated outward along its surface. Then another bolt, then another, ripples crossing and layering over each other, a puddle in a rain storm made of light.
And with each strike the shield grew brighter, energy not dissipated but rather absorbed into its strength.
The only part of him that did not then gleam with the energy were his eyes, which were centered on the man, and saw the flechettes emerge from the casing, a spark of red sunlight glinting off each one.
Roq folded his wings to his spine, dropping through the air, extending them again with a snap as the volley of flechettes passed over his back. A few stray pieces of metal hissed and sparked as they collided with the shield, reduced to drops of molten metal.
The man's speed rivaled Roq's own, and as he slowed he gouged the earth and it sprayed forth rock and dirt like blood. A head-on approach was unlikely to succeed.
The man reached upward, and just before the Graarl passed over him, he suddenly folded his winds and and wretched his body around. The Graarl dropped, clearing the edge of the cliff by mere inches. His fore talons latched to a rock and the rest of his body swung around, hind talons catching the stone, head facing upward.
A moment of silence passed as Roq gauged the man's location, seeing in the Force, and then his muscles conjured a surge of power and threw him up and over the edge of the cliff.
A feral, predatory shriek came from the deepest caverns of his lungs as he emerged, wings spread wide, body glowing with the shield.
Roq released the energy that squirmed along his scales and it exploded outward, a wave of heat and light and sound and force, yet it washed across the man with all the effect of a quiet ocean wave.
Force and strength would win Roq no progress here. His talons hit the dirt, as if he meant to charge, yet suddenly he twisted to the right, remaining just out of reach, and took three large bounds to the west before whipping back around to face the man, tail lashing out behind.
The Graarl waited, muscles tense and ready, staring down the twenty-foot space between him and the man.
"This is your last chance to turn back."

Dust and particulates hung heavy in the air over the small once peaceful plateau. A small blue symbol, indicating foreign material in his suit’s filters, barely registered to ark as he made a hasty attempt to grasp the vibrantly glowing creature who danced on the winds just outside of his reach. In its haste the movement put ark off balance his feet sliding on large chunks of shattered cracked rock. Falling to one kneed ark lost sight of the flying creature as he sought purchase in the quagmire he had created.
The cyborg muttered a harsh curse in mado’a quietly to himself as he flipped to a thermal view in attempt to find the small creature attempting to stall him from his goal. Ark had barely spotted the head of the reptilian creature peeking over the ridge before the creature shot up like a coiled adder on to the ridge top his scales glowing brightly. Ark’s sensor package whined as it slammed down the levels of arks audio receptors and nearly blacked out his view in the endeavor to protect both its own systems and that of the master whom depended on them. Ark was well aware that the thunderous report of the force users attack would have normally left most opponents disoriented.
Ark hope that the creature may be ignorant enough to attack him directly whilst possibly disoriented was dashed as the creature rolled just beyond his reach taking a position father along ridge and once more imploring arkanodos to turn back. “Save your breath creature.” The large cyborg said as he turned to face the whip like animal. As ark turned the ground beneath him groaned in protest of stone grinding against stone and besk’ar. “I will not abandon my brothers.” Ark stated plainly with the conviction of centuries behind hit. With a sharp twist ark grabbed a piece of shattered rock at least twenty pounds and flung it with all his might as the creature before breaking in a run into the grasses.
As the cyborg galloped into the waist high grass he slanted his path ever so slightly be try and bring himself parallel with the creature and the canyon edge. Skidding slightly as he turned ark fired another shot from his carbine just behind, now slightly to the left, of the creature in hopes to bring it more in line with his plan before slamming his drives to full power intent on attempting to drive both himself and the creature into the rapids at the canyon floor.

It was settled, then. There would be no resolution without conflict.
A wedge of light suddenly appeared in the air, the carbine shots sliding along each side and scattering, striking the ground on either side of the Jedi.
Roq simply watched as the man began to run again, and he could feel the collision of each footstep in his very bones. He could feel the trembling of the earth, the vibrations of the rock, the way they suddenly halted at the widening cracks, the hollow space beneath this section of the cliff where the canyon was concave...
And he smiled. The man charged, and as the product of his speed and mass, his momentum was nearly unfathomable. Roq simply turned to face him.
The Jedi reached deep within himself and saw as the Force saw, the cracks in the rock below glowing as clear as veins in crystal. And in the Force, Roq took a hold of those veins, those cracks, and when the man was only three meters away he pulled the strings.
The earth groaned mightily and bucked beneath the man and the Jedi, then suddenly shattered like glass.
In those first moments the rocks seemed to remain alive, crushing inward upon the metal man.
Roq's wings caught him and with the slow grace of a falling leaf he spun in the air to sweep towards the center of the canyon, drawing him away from the cliff side and his influence away from the rocks.
His inner wing folded and he angled sharply around to watch the man's descent for any surprises. The river below frothed red as blood in the dying light.

Ark hurtled forwards towards the slim serpentine creature facing him all appeared normal to the heavy cyborg and until he was almost within arm’s length of the creature. Warning blared around ark’s consciousness as the ground began first to groan and then scream in protest as great slabs of granite first warped then shattered like dried bones.
The great cyborg cut his thrusters as soon as he began to fall, but only a few seconds in the fall had little time to attempt to do more than get his legs partially under himself. Besk’ar and servos groaned under the force of the impact even as stone shattered as ark crashed right leg first into a large bolder rising above the rapids. As he slide from the slick precept into the churning water all sound besides the roar of water and the sound of virtual alarms were driven away.
Between churning water and thrown up mud ark was blinded and switched to the thermal systems in hopes of catching some glimpse of his foe. As he scanned he tallied the damage to his frame, his information displayed moderate damage to the right leg including an integrity breach now flooding with water and a servo motor now in desperate need of replacement or over haul. As the silt began to settle arkanados could see the flying menace lazily holding itself air born to his left.
Deciding he had to act quickly if he was to have a chance to hurt the being while he still might have the element of surprise. With some effort, and not a small about of protest from his damaged leg, ark managed to get his feet under him in the raging torrent of water. With a resounding roar and a steam explosion drives normally meant to bring the mandalorian cyborg down to a manageable orbital impact speed catapulted the mass of besk’ar, durasteel, and plasteel at his opponent intent on bodily slamming in to him. As ark cleared the water and got a reliable view of the enemy he let off a single snap shot from the carbine still in his hand before discarding it entirely.

When the rock collided with the water it let out a thundrous splash that echoed in the canyon, the two cliffs discussing the matter. Roq sensed the man's location and swept low over the water, talons dipping downward to--
He felt a sense of sudden movement and in that moment of premonition conjured a sphere around himself. The man shot upwards, a column of spray following him, incredible force colliding with the sphere. Roq was thrown backwards as the shield quivered and disappeared, wings buckling from the sheer mental impact. As he fell he felt the landscape and twisted around, landing on one of the rock spires that grew upward from the river.
He looked up at the man just in time to see the barrel of the carbine, sliding down fully behind the spire as the flechettes passed over his head and struck the rock. His conscious mind suddenly caught up with what had happened; the cyborg had thrusters which allowed him to both hover and fly.
That was... that was actually really awesome.
Seeing as the cyborg had survived both the fall, and the rocks, and the water, Roq felt license to hold nothing back. Another sphere appeared, this one around the hovering man. Energy projectiles would be reflected back inwards, physical force met with all the solidarity of a wall. The sphere began wide and thin, protecting Roq from ranged attacks without limiting the man's movements, but as Roq focused the sphere grew smaller and smaller and thicker and thicker, following the man as he moved, until it began to crush in on each side and Roq trembled with the effort of containing the energy. Then he wretched the sphere sideways, towards the canyon wall, the energy disappearing just before it touched the rock. In that moment Roq launched himself into the sky again, swift strokes guiding him between the walls of the canyon, shield glistening along his scales once more.
Roq hoped only that this would disorient his quarry, and was not so naive as to think it would incapacitate him. So he drew from the environment three boulders, each at least a yard in diameter. The first came from the riverbed, rocketing upwards as the man had, the second feel downward from the edge of the cliff, wretched from its precarious perch, each guided by the uncanny premonition and sense of a Jedi master. A third Roq drew to himself. It moved passed him and then looped into orbit, revolving around the Jedi as strong strokes held his position steady, hovering in the center of the canyon, eyes watching the movements of the man. The boulder's circles rapidly accelerated in speed, as Roq prepared to use it for either attack or defense.

Ark hit his opponent with several tons of force, and the shield his enemy continuously unused first bowed whilst ask’s beskar armor groaned under the impact then shattered in a flurry of light. Ark was blind for a moment as his receptors cycled first to a more opaque setting and then quickly whirled around to a normal light setting as the shards of force condensed air dissipated. While possible, the massive cyborg was ungainly in the air as his drives had never truly been intended for such use. He continually swayed as he tried to keep a lock on the long silvery creature.
Proximity warnings suddenly flared in ark’s systems as he caught a glimpse of the small creature as he slammed into air? Yes, ark confirmed to himself as his drive cut out and he landed chest first on the now visible air it was air. Ark struggled to regain his footing in the initially soft and giving bubble, but as it hardened and began to squeeze closer to the cyborg he reached out fearful for a moment that the force user might actually be strong enough to simply crush him with shield of air. These initial fears were laid to rest as ark was once more slammed face first into the walls of the bubble this time from acceleration rather than his own fall.
The shield vanished as it neared the canyon wall giving ark just enough time to flair his dives to slow his progress before slamming carapace first into the granite wall. While slowed ark still hit with enough force to leave a fractured crater where he is and bend the beskar flanges jutting from his carapace to protect his drives and external components of his communications systems. The rock crumbled in a small land side shortly followed by ark himself as he dropped to the sandy strip of beach now covered in chunks of granite of various sizes. Upon falling he had to steady his right side with his armor and his standing caused the canyon to echo with the sound of an actuator squealing in protest.
The sand shifting under his weight, Ark stood unsteadily and took a moment to survey his surroundings before looking once more for his opponent. He spotted the winged force user hovering above him towards the middle of the canyon once more surrounded with his damned able shield and an added defense of a pair of orbiting rocks. Those had to go first as ark considered his options and unslung his blaster repeater. Fiddling with the controls located on the receiver section of the weapon he set the power cell to overload knowing that the concussive blast and flash of light from the detonation could potentially blind the beast.
Reaching down ark first knew he had to dispose of the two rocks orbiting the creature before there was any chance of the detonating rifle to be close enough to do what ark wanted it to do. As he bent he grasped the large stone’s edge and snapped up suddenly throwing the rock almost as large as a normal human’s torso like a Frisbee at the floating creature. After a seconds delay just long enough to grasp another stone of equal size he flung this one as well but as this stone left his grasp he pulled back his left arm and let the blaster rifle now glowing from the quickly failing power cell fly after the pair of projectiles.

The man's first boulder spun rapidly through the air, and Roq loosed a rock, letting it slingshot out of orbit. They collided with incredible force in midair, shattering in a spray of rock and dust that exploded outward, the massive boulders obliterated with all the ease of skeet.
The second set of boulders also exploded, a cloud of dust falling through the air as the sound of the impact reverberated through the canyon.
The rifle flew through the hanging dust, brightly glowing with impending danger. Roq reached out with the force and slowed its progress, easier given its relatively smaller mass, and--
The rifle suddenly exploded in a searing flash of light, throwing itself against Roq's shield in many small pieces that fizzled and fell. Even so, Roq hissed with pain as his sensitive eyes were overwhelmed. The explosion was over in an instant, but darkness and sparks of random light lingered in Roq's vision, though he tried to blink them away.
He reached into the Force again, feeling the world in white lines and translucent shapes. Roq closed his eyes and let them stay shut, pulling himself even more deeply into the Force. Once more he saw in things, through things, and could see as clear as any other surface the cracks in the cliff face from the man's most recent impact. Manipulation over distance was growing exhausting, so Roq tilted forward and swept towards the cliff face, shield still glimmering. His wingtip grazed along the stone, which cracked and groaned like an undead stirring from its grave. The Jedi would bear whatever attacks came then, relying on his shields and the steadiness of his will.
The effect seemed to be no greater than this noise until Roq had passed all the way above the man. The cliffside shuddered one last time, a shiver down its spine that tossed off small puffs of dust. All hung still for a moment before a massive slab of rock began to slide past the rest, falling rapidly down along the face of the cliff. The cyborg would have some time to react, but would ideally have to choose between being crushed and returning to the water, which while obviously not incapacitating was hopefully stressful.
Roq took advantage of the moment of chaos and alighted once more on one of the upstream spires, removing the demand of flying to focus on his next task. In the space between himself and the man he conjured a massive vertical wall of the Force, a third of the width of the river, then shoved it down into the water.
The river surged upwards along the face of the sheet, bulging mightily for a moment. It might have them simply flowed around, but the Force suddenly vanished, instead sending a mighty wave of water washing downstream with crushing force and a mighty roar.
Roq took a deep, steadying breath, the massive weight of the water having nearly yanked him from his perch. His eyesight was returning, but to find only the dimness of twilight. The sun had set, and time was running ever shorter.

Ark’s HUD showed thin pale green lines across his vision as the various projectiles, both his and the force users, sail through misty air above the rapid filled river. The twin boulders flung by ark collided with the two flung out of orbit by the force users with a thunderous claps spraying dust and shrapnel in all directions including a few chunks which left divots and gouges in the cyborgs armor. The rifle ark had slung into the mess managed to penetrate the hail of projectiles and detonated just as ark had wanted a mere few meters from the creature. Energy arced in all directions away from it with a deafening roar and a blaze as bright as a small start. Ark’s vision and hearing all but ceased for that moment as his own sensors fought to scrub out the visual and auditory noise of the explosion.
After a moment ark’s vision and hearing returning with the systems normal functionality returned. The clear view managed to bring a small sense of satisfaction to the ancient cyborg as the flying beast blinked his eyes rapidly in his position. Ark was preparing his engines to launch a physical attack on the force users when the sound of cracking granite caught his attention. As he turned back to the cliff face cracks ripped through the granite that formed it starting as small hairline fractures before sundering into massive rents in the stone. Almost on instinct ark acted firing the decent drives mounted in his legs and tilting back towards the river spraying sand and molten glass at the now rapidly collapsing cliff.
The cyborgs short flight brought him back to the center of the river landing heavily on his damaged leg causing more groans to echo through the canyon. Ark steadied himself as a small wave washed over him as the massive slab of stone crashed to the earth spraying sand and water from the decent sized crater it now inhabited. His head locked onto the beast, as the water lowered to normal levels, now resting tiredly on a stone pillar up river his vision seeming to drag the creature closer as the digital zoom engaged. Ark saw the shimmering of the being’s force wall and the beginning of the wave being formed and racked his brain for a solution.
With no plan making itself immediately obvious to the elderly cyborg he went with the first impulse that came to him. Shielding his relatively delicate photoreceptors with this left hand as the wave began to wash over him he slammed the drives on his back to full power and accelerated into the maelstrom. Water roared past his audio pickups and gravel scoured away at the thin layer of paint covering the beskar hide of the cyborg’s frame as he picked up speed through the water now throwing a geyser of water and steam well behind him. As the power of the wave began to lessen ark angled himself with his shoulder forward before slamming into the stone the creature had inhabited mere seconds before with a cacophony of cracking stone, squealing beskar, and the virtual blaring warnings in his mind.
