Bio:
Vaelis is the daughter of Kolen Savic a senior staff attache to the republic senate and Queslia a balmorran born dancer. Only her mother Queslia was Theelin leaving her connection to the species slight at best with her father being from a long line of human alderaan minor nobles. Queslia had met Kolen whilst he was enlisted in the republic navy and stationed at one of the Orbital gun facilities defending the capital. After Kolen served his first term, more to please his own father than anything, he returned to alderaan keeping a long distance relationship with the theelin for almost a month before discovering that the woman had became pregnant.
Vaelis father's first idea was to cut all contact with Queslia and pretend as if the child nor the woman had ever existed this plan would have went dashingly if Kolen's father hadn't discovered the plan. The elder Tanis Savic was a somewhat traditional and then still current career army officer and took a very dim view of his son's intentions. Tanis decided to invite the theelin woman to Alderaan believing that while his son might be no good the family would not be drug down with him and it was by the course of events that Vaelis was born on Alderaan and not Balmoora.
Vaelis would never claim to be saddened by the lack of her father's involvement in her life indeed for all purposes her grandfather picked up the role of being the girls father figure doing so successfully enough that the girl was eight before she was even aware that her father was missing learning about it after asking her grand father about things other children had said to her. Tanis for his part was fairly happy to dote on the young girl with Kolen being his only child and their relation ship strained and his time no longer taken by the republic army he had little else to occupy his twilight years. Vaelis for his part idolized her grandfather and he was the main reason for the route she would eventually take.
Her early life was mostly taken up in schooling an a active extracurricular life. She was quite active in various sports clubs and gymnastics winning a few competitions before she entered secondary education. It was while attending public school that she begin the republic's officer preparation classes. with the completion of her secondary education perhaps in part of her familiar connections see was able to enter the prestigious Republic Defense Academy on Carida.
Cadets at the academy were pushed hard to succeed and Vae was no different. One of the first things that occurred to all the new cadets was a intensive few weeks of physical drills prior to the beginning of the more regular classes. Most students in the academy chose to focus on engineering paths in hopes of more cushy rear line jobs and healthy post service careers.
Vae however had always planned on a career in the republic army a hope to one day reach the heights that her grand father and uncle had reached. To this end she focused more on a wider range of the academy's offered classes including several nonessential classes in engineering and science. During her time at the academy she also picked back up on the athleticism she had left behind in part due to time taken up by officer preparedness activities this included a stint as part of the academies cheer team. Vae graduated near the top of her class the memory of her graduation happy save for an appearance by her long absence father and a yelling match between her grand father and his son.
Vaelis entered the Republic army as a second lieutenant with the 62nd mechanized infantry brigade. Her time with the unit was mostly spent filling paperwork being the junior staff member of the battalion work was often shoveled down the line to her. The woman did chafe some what under being little more than a glorified secretary, but given time the Battalion CO was finally ready to allow the young lieutenant on a mission. One of the platoons had been requested to locate separatist on Taris. The mission, however was a disaster with mechanical failures disabling their primary armor transport ship requiring the platoon to land much closer to their target then initially expected which drew their drop-ships into the range of a then undetected anti-air battery. Vae and a handful of soldiers managed to land safely or survive the crashing transports. Vaelis was credited with keeping a group of nine troopers alive for almost three weeks against attacks by the separatist forces until the remainder of the battalion managed to cut trough to their position.
Vaelis was promoted by regimental command following the mission and remained with the unit for nearly another year before the republic had the woman transferred over to a newly raised special operations task group. The republic was desperate for teams as the battles with the Sith Empire and Mandalorians sapped their man power. In these conditions the republic special operations administration considered Vaelis' experience sufficient to lead a fresh batch of special forces operators.
RP Sample: Vae's toes felt like they were about to fall off as she huddled under a thermo blanket at the edge of camp. The binocs in her left hand were practically fused to her visor as she scanned over the featureless white tundra surrounding the plateau she had ordered the group to rest on for the night. According to the crono her watch was supposed to have ended nearly an hour and a half before, but she had chosen to ignore her own rules and double up on watch. The group had been attacked by another group of marauders earlier in the day from what the young lieutenant now suspected where a network of tunnels. During the attack the man who was supposed to be on watch right now had taking one of their primitive arrows in the left thigh and although they had patched him up she knew he needed as much rest as he could get. Which is why she was now at the edge of camp freezing after giving her last thermo pack to the injured man.
