Skirmish in the Makem System (OOC Discussion)

In the wake of Rhen Var and Yaga Minor, tensions are reaching a critical point in the outer rim and both the Republic and Sith Empire are preparing their forces for the next conflict. As they do, planetary governments along the battle lines have begun to reassess their standings. Some planets hold strong to their Republic ties, but others are weighing their options with the Sith Empire.

Aware of these wavering allegiances, many Republic senators have sent envoys to key outer rim planets to reaffirm their relationship with the Republic. Jedi Councilman, Master Vreem Took and other members of the Blades of the Order have also lent their support in the effort to keep any systems from falling to the Sith Empire. But they are not the only ones with their eyes on these systems.
The Sith Empire has been sending representatives of their own and their promises of better support and stronger influence are tempting to some governments that have felt neglected by the Republic. Makem Te, which sits at the end of the Perlemian Trade route, is one such jaded system. While playing host to Master Took and his companions on their diplomatic mission, the Congress of Caliphs has secretly made deals with Sith ambassadors.

Now, en route to Troiken for the second stop of their diplomatic mission, the Blades are unaware that the coordinates of their convoy have been sent by officials of Makem Te to a Sith fleet amassed nearby. Eager to bring down the leader of the Blades, an ambush has been set up, led by Lady Vesperia who is eager to prove her worth to the Inner Sanctum. If successful, this surprise attack could be a devastating blow, both to the Blades, and the Republic’s hold on the outer rim.

Alrighty my dears. This is how it's going to work. Vreem, Levin, and Aser are going to be ambushed by our sithies. There will be some NPC military action for those willing to play that as well. If not, just be aware that there are military forces doing their thing in the background. The Sith, with their military, have the obvious upper hand.

Luckily for our Jedi, they're able to get a distress call out and a group of other Jedi happen to be nearby and come to save the day and rescue our friends.

So, our thread will begin with the original three Jedi and the sith for some time. Those of us signed up as reinforcements will come in at a later point, TBD.

The location of the planet is of some importance as a bridgehead right?

Is the intention to let the jedi know who informed the sith about them being there?

Makem Ti sits at the very arse end of the trade route that slashes through grid b7. So the Sith now have a foothold on that particular trade route. To my knowledge this ambush is meant to be just that: an ambush. The Jedi won't know what hit them, and will likely barely escape with their lives. To my knowledge, at least.

The diplomatic convoy likely wouldn't have too many warships. I could see Vreem's dreadnought and a few supporting vessels, but nothing more. Vesperia would bring all of the resources she was allowed to bring on this ambush. It's regrettably not the bulk of the Sith Navy thanks to the Siege of Bak'mral, but I do declare that it's a gooooooood amount of ships.

Furthermore... I would assume that ships capable of generating an interdiction field would be in heavy volume on this particular ambush. It would do no good for the delegation to jump into the ambush, then turn around and jump back out, after all.

So this won't be a mission that also takes place on the planets surface?

The way I read it is that it would be beneficial for the Sith to tell the Jedi that the inhabitants of the planet told them that there would be a Jedi convoy coming to the system as a kind of psychological warfare. I thought that would make sense.

Also, looking at the galaxy map you just linked it would be wise for the Sith to take hold of this planet to get access to planets like Felucia and maybe Vjun. Or am I now thinking way ahead of things?

Nope, this is all in space. But I have no idea why it would be beneficial for the Sith to tell the Jedi anything? The goal isn't psychological warfare here. The goal is to capture Master Took, Leader of the Blades, and a republic delegation.

Yeah, as far as I know it'll basically be Vreem, Aser and Levin vs anything and everything the Sith throw their way until reinforcements arrive. I'm pretty stoked for this.

Well, the more I think about it, however many Jedi there are won't make a whole lot of difference in a space battle.

Unless there's boarding parties at mass, and all (or even one) of them are using Battle Meditation at Bastilla Shan levels (which they're not unless they really want to Sue themselves up) and super-duper-awesome pilots (which Jedi can be good at but not all are super-crazy-awesome--a good Jedi pilot can still be uberly b****-smacked by a non-Force-Sensitive ace pilot)... ehhhh... there's not a whole lot they can do within an over-sized tin can within an infinite vaccuum.

What's going to determine it above all else is whose ships are going to blow up whose more. And the battle is beginning with a convoy vs. a Sith fleet ambush. While the Sith can use more... well... Sith on their side, starting off it's still good odds for the Sith to work with.

I don't care how good of a lightsaber duelist or even self-proclaimed Force-Merlin someone is, it won't mean crap if their ship is blowing up from ship to ship bombardments.

Truefax. I'm trying to figure out just how many ships the Sith would have. I'm also trying to figure out the endgame of this particular battle. While its obvious (to me, at least) that Vreem won't be captured I would like to know if any Ambassadors, Senators, Jedi, or anyone at all gets seized out of this. I'd hate to have a failed ambush, after all.

Also... I'm guessing that the reinforcements will drive the Sith away? It'd be pretty tough to do that seeing as once the Sith Lords are on the ship it'd be tough to escape. Captiol ships have a funny way of locking everything down.

Well, my idea wasn't to have Vreem be there on his flagship. Since diplomatic peace convey isn't really conveyed with a super-carrier. There wouldn't be a great deal to the convoy itself. However, the intention of the Sith is not to just kill the Senators/ambassadors, capturing them will provide more opportunities for the Empire. Capturing Vreem, as well, could potentially lead to an exposure of military knowledge about the Republic's forces. Though there's likely to be a bit more leeway with him than with the senators on that matter. (Also, capturing them brings about the need for boarding parties).

And yes, I don't intend to have Vreem captured during this event. There will be senators and ambassadors captured (not all of them but a fair share). As for any of the Jedi taking part, well, that'd be down to them.

But the main idea is that the Sith will board to acquire the important targets, (initially outnumbering the Jedi) and then the reinforcements will arrive to try and get the notable figures safely back to friendly ships (at this point I figured the number of PC Sith/Jedi would be about the same so there could be some fair-ish fights going on number wise).

That answers that question. I figured that the protectorate may have been a bit overkill, but yeah. Would it be obvious which ships are the ones that hold the senators and ambassadors, or are they in military vessels? The latter would mean that the sith could only disable all the ships, while the former means that we get to see some total obliteration. >:3

The envoy ship it self is probably unarmed, besides that there would probably be a couple of republic corvettes or maybe a frigate escorting and maybe a few PDF ships, but it wouldn't be much more than what you would need to drive the average pirate raider off.

Yeah. This would be a bit more than a pirate raid. Vesperia's battleship, The Crimson Tide, will certainly be there along with what I'd like to be many ships there. A carrier, five or six heavy cruisers, more regular cruisers, and a plethora of destroyers and corvettes. Not to mention a ship capable of generating an interdictor field to stop ships from escaping. This is supposed to be an ambush of a diplomatic convoy, and an important one at that. Nothing wrong with using more force than necessary.

As far as the reinforcements go... //shrug// I'd think that it'd at least be enough to stop the Sith from steamrolling what few ships would be remaining, but not enough to actually mount a rescue attempt or counter attack. Any protests?

I'll have Vaaz be a part of capturing senators/ambassadors/otherpoliticaldouchebags with a handful of NPC Spec Op duders, sense her ship The Sightless Crow is essentially a modified armed transport vessel, it's kinda' perfect getting some folks in, capturing a few schmucks, and getting the fook outta' Dodge.
