Species Name: Tivorians
Species Type: Humanoid
Planet of Origin: Galif 7
Average Maximum age: 250 galactic standard years
Age of Maturation: 75 galactic standard years
Average Height: between five and a half to six and a half feet tall. Females tend to be of a taller, lither build.
Average Weight: between one hundred and ten to two hundred and forty pounds
Notable biological features:
The most notably non-human features of the Tivorian are on the head. They have enlarged craniums lined on either side by four to six tentacles that start just behind the jaw and connect at the back of the skull, each one capable of independent movement. Their eyes are blackened pupils with irises ranging from bright yellow to dark purple. The males feature short razor sharp tusks on either side of their mouth with omnivore teeth, whereas the females have serrated teeth and no tusks.
Male Tivorians tend to be of a short build the avergae being between five foot five to six feet, bigger build, with very defined musculature. the females tend to be taller around six feet to six foot five, and very lithe.
Male Tivorians have brighter, more flamboyant coloring to their skin ranging in hues from blues to bright green with speckled tentacles and females are darker with more subdued coloration of darker blues and greens and no speckling to tentacles. Albino Tivorians are extraordinarily rare and typically held as an omen of great change. White Tivorians eyes are always all white with no distinction from iris and pupil.
Number of limbs and Type: Standard humanoid limbs jointed at the shoulders, elbows, and wrists, as well as at the hips knees and ankles. Hands are typical, four tri-jointed fingers and a opposing bi-jointed digit. Feet have three large toes with talons instead of nails, though most Tivorians have adapted to wearing coverings of some sort on their feet.
Culture:
Tivorians speak Standard as while as Tvr, a harsh guttural language that has no vowels when spoken and incorporates scent from pheromones and tentacle twitches.
The highest class are the Kpltn or nobility. This status is not hereditary, although the sons of Kpltn have access to better resources and education, so it is easier for them to become Kpltn.
The second class is the Klln, or peasants. estimates are that only 20% of the population is dedicated to agriculture and food production. The other 80% of society are warriors, hunters and traders. Eventually, most of the Klln are dedicated to arts and crafts. Their works are an important source of income for the people as a whole.
Slaves or Tlcts are also constituted as an important class. many Tivorians could become slaves because of debts, as a criminal punishment or as war captives. A Tlct can have possessions and even own other slaves. However, upon becoming a Tlct, all of the slave's animals and excess money go to his purchaser. Slaves can buy their liberty, and slaves can be set free if they have children with or who marry their masters. Typically, upon the death of the master, Tlcts who perform outstanding services are freed. The rest of the slaves are passed on as part of an inheritance.
Traveling merchants Known as Pwn are a small, but important class as they not only facilitate commerce, but also communicate vital information across and beyond Galif 7's borders. They have often been employed as spies as well within their own borders and in space.
Families are matriarchal clans, with the most venerable females as the head of the clan and spiritual leader known as a Gdss. A grouping of clans is also known as a tribe with each clans Gdss paying homage to the most venerable clan leader as the Tribes Gjd Gdss.
Children are considered to be the clans, not just their paternal's responsibility and each adult cares for the young as though their own even if they themselves are sterile.
Venerating their dead ancestors and those who have won glory in battle, or besting great beasts, Tivorian spirituality is very ancestral, even when travelling in space, they will set up a shrine to mediate and seek guidance from their ancestors. Tivorians also are very close to nature and have a semi-mystical respect for the sun. Upon reaching adulthood every Tivorian has a crystal pierced into their forehead as a sign of reverence to the sun by gifting light back to that which gives them life.
Marriage is a sacred right for Tivorian males as only about a quarter of the population are females and less then half of them being fertile. Marriages last for two years in which a male must try to produce offspring with the female or be discarded and the female moves to the next male, if an off spring is produced and is healthy the female may choose to keep her mate longer then two years but a blood duel may be called upon after two years for another male to vie for the right to reproduce. Males are chosen for marriage by right of Grt, or accomplishments which gives them the right to carry on their blood-line.
When a male Tivorian dies his clan will gather, maybe even his whole tribe if he had accomplished great things in his time, and build him a large pyre and each member of his clan will give him a gift, laid on his or around him though leaving his chest clear as that spot is reserved for his wife (or wives depending on his Grt) and then the fire is lit as the sun sets and for three days the clan feasts and the histories are retold and his life is celebrated and he is given his spot in the clans history with his accomplishments.
When a female Tivorian dies though, there is no fire and no feast, as the female gives life to all Tivorians, they consider it her last gift of life to bury her in the soil to become one with the planet and give life eternally, though her death is greatly mourned by all the tribe. Very rarely will a female be added into the histories but each one is considered sacred and her name will ever more be spoken with the greatest of reverence.
Tivorians although mostly nomadic have a very accepted code of judicial/spiritual laws that govern every tribe and clan and individual. Laws are kept and enforced by each Gdss, or clan leader. though most have no need to enforce the few laws much as Tivorians are, almost to a fault, honor bound to do their duty to their clan and tribe. The three most important laws to the Tivorians are;
Draw not your blade unless you can spill it's blood.[/b]-Do not threaten if you cannot in good conscious follow through.
There is no honor that is not earned.[/b]-Don't steal, there is no reward in it.
Do what you must to protect yours. [/b]-The greater good of the clan and tribe comes before yourself.
History:
It's only been within the last thousand that Tivorians have been in the galactic community, before they were discovered they were a very nomadic, warlike race on their own planet. Constantly moving and fighting for control of resources with only the largest of tribes settling for any amount of time. This is the now known as the Hrmn or History of Before.
The first sign of life off their world came from a pair of Twi'ilek smugglers that came seeking a supposed treasure, and instead finding a primitive race only slightly removed from their own. The Twi'ileks opened trading with the young Tivorian's who, though mostly hunters and warriors, harboured some very shrewd traders, weapons were traded for precious gems and metals. In fact trade has become so strong that the only known permanent structure on the planet is the spaceport.
Though most Tivorian's are content to stay home and fight their own petty battles and live in their clans and move across the planet at their leisure, some go off to explore space. Of these most of them are traders, though some hunter and warriors also venture out to seek more glory to bring to their clan or tribe, or even to buy their way out of a Tlct (slave) debt.
