Name: Jaina Karios
Race: Human
Age: 17
Height: 5’5”
Weight: 123 lbs.
Appearance:
Assuming looks mean everything, one could presume that Jaina would be a rather weak target, but nothing was ever this simple. In reality, it is quite the opposite. Despite her small frame, her body is toned, having an average amount of lean muscle due to the intense Jedi body training she has undergone since she was a young child.
Calling her beautiful for a human wouldn't be an understatement; her fair skin and blonde hair attracts countless, though it’s all for naught, as she won’t speak with many of them. Although her skin is mostly clear of blemish, upon her right shoulder and reaching all the way to midway down the left side of her back is a burn scar from a lightsaber.
Though not necessarily a rare trait, Jaina has a pair of hazel eyes. Within the hazel eyes, tiny splashes of an emerald green set her apart from others with her eye color. Naturally, people associate her with her eye color, and is how they remember her.
In the vast majority of situations, Jaina can be found in the light-brown Jedi Padawan robing. However, due to the time of war, she typically wears a silver suit of light Jedi battle armor, preferring light over heavy as it allows for less restriction in the use of Force abilities, as well as allowing her to keep her agile edge in combat. At all times, the hilt of her lightsaber is attached to her belt, which is generally hidden behind her robes.
Personality:
As a maturing Human teenager, much of Jaina's personality is still developing. Nonetheless, it is simple to say that she's the type of person who has no worry when speaking her mind. Countless of times, Jaina has stated her disagreements with Council decisions to her teachers and her original master, but often, they simply dismiss her thoughts and remind her that she's too young to understand the world. To some extent, she moves on, but even after intense meditation, there always remains a trace of doubt.
As her slightly rebellious attitude may suggest, Jaina is also undoubtedly bold. While she was a youngling, she occasionally started fights with other students. Commonly, it took the intervention of teachers for Jaina to finally end the battles. Through much mentoring and meditation, Jaina no longer initiates combat, instead waiting for her enemy to start the fight. Yet, when combat begins, Jaina struggles stopping until the battle is complete. Mentors tell her that with age she'll grow out of that trait, but only time will tell.
In spite of her fight first, think later attitude, Jaina is actually rather intelligent. Though she may not be as wise as her peers desiring to be Consulars, she has a higher natural intelligence than most of her fellow aspiring Guardians. Along with her wisdom comes the crafty and cunning intellect she displays. In situations in which the odds look grim, she scans for weaknesses in her enemy and exploits them. Even though the Jedi typically stay away from dishonorable or cowardly acts, Jaina will take advantage of whatever she must in a life-or-death situation.
Despite being raised by the Jedi Order, Jaina isn't entirely sure of her place in the Force. As a youngling, she felt as if she didn't belong with the rest of her colleagues. As a Padawan, hen alone at times, she'll catch herself looking into the mirror, reminding herself that she is a Jedi. To this day, she still repeats this habit.
Casually, Jaina is very approachable. Both her looks and the force allow her to be charismatic to a certain degree. Often, non-Jedi will come to her for counseling, much to her awkwardness. Still, she accepted, and found that is somewhat calming to assist others in their time of need. At the time of war they're at now, she'll need at the relaxation she can get.

Before Birth
About a year before the birth of Jaina was the meeting of her parents. Her mother, Mya Vapasi, held a place in the Sith Empire as one of the wealthy aristocrats. Unmarried and rich beyond belief, her mother was the epitome of a greedy man's dreams. However, whenever men approached her, they were simply turned down. Continuously, the pattern went on and on, with men proposing to her, and her casually rejecting them. Eventually, it appeared as if perhaps she was too arrogant to marry anyone but the best. That would eventually be proven false.
It had been eleven months before Jaina's birth when a Dark Jedi named Nash Salan approached Mya on Criaxa. Immediately, Mya took interest in this man. Something about him attracted her; something more than just physical attraction. In reality, his heart was as cold as her's. Its dark power seduced her.
Originally, he was only supposed to be her escort around the dangerous portions of the planet. Overtime, it eventually developed into an every day visit. Lying to her family and stating that he was just her escort managed to persuade them that she wouldn't taint her blood line. Obviously, if she intended on spending her life with him, she would have to move on. She would do just that.
Together, the pair plotted a way to successfully flee Criaxa and hed to Jaemus. As soon as they were ready to leave, the two immediately left. Unfortunately for them, their plan was not as secret as they believed. Mya's parents, though unsure exactly where, knew the two intended on fleeing to Jaemus. They would not allow her to ruin their lineage.
Months went by, and the two fell deeper and deeper in cold-hearted love. Soon after arriving at Jaemus, Mya discovered she was pregnant with Nash's child.
Birth and First Four Years
Around nine months after discovering Mya, she gave birth to her child: a healthy baby girl. The two decided to name her Jaina, and she inherited her father's surname. "Jaina Salan" her father had said. "What a fantastic name." As a father and a Dark Jedi, he still managed to be excited about something a Dark Force user often wouldn't be. Their happiness was short-lived, however, as Mya's family had finally found them.
Promptly after her father arrived with Mandalorian mercenaries protecting him, Nash realized nothing good could come from this. Taking Mya with him, the two fled like cowards, leaving their baby behind in fear for their own lives.
Upon finding his daughter's child, Mya's father spat in disgust. How could his own daughter taint his bloodline with the scum of the Empire? Looking at his grandchild again, he desired to kill what he called an abomination, yet he couldn't bring himself to do it. Instead, he found a slave trader on Jaemus, and sold the infant. 'Better to grow a slave than to hold my name." he said, before abandoning her forever.
For the next four years, Jaina traveled the galaxy with the slave traders. Attempts to sell her consistently met with denial. She was too young, and too weak. No one wanted to buy a slave as young as her. Considering abandoning her, the slave traders tried one last time to sell her on the planet known as Lorrd. Their final attempt seemed not to be working well. Days of advertising their slave, and not one person seemed to be interested. On the final day, just before beginning to leave the planet and search elsewhere, an elder man approached the traders.
"How much for this child?" the man had spoke, his voice both faint and weak.
Both shocked and hopeful, the two traders eagerly made offers with the man. Eventually, they came to an agreement, and they had sold Jaina. Before the old man could have a chance to change his mind, the slave traders flew off the planet. Little did they know that the girl they had held captive for four years carried the Force within her, and that the man who had just purchased her was a Jedi Master from Tython on a business trip.
"What is your name, child?" the man spoke.
"Jaina." she simply responded, her voice full of youthful innocence.
"And what is your surname?" the elder asked once more.
"I don't have one."
"How about I give you one?"
"My owners told me I don't deserve one. They said I don't belong" the young girl said, a faint sound of disappointment audible.
"Nonsense. From now on, you shall be known as Jaina Karios." Though she could not understand what had just happened, the elder had basically just adopted her, gifting her with his own last name. No longer was she Jaina Salan, daughter of Mya and Nash; she became Jaina Karios, the child of a Jedi Master. After that day, her 'owner' took here back to Tython with him and she began life anew.
Life as a Youngling[/u]
When the Jedi Master brought back a young girl who was sold in a slave trade, his colleagues couldn't see the logic behind it. Furthermore, they grew even more suspicious when they detected a seed of the Dark Side of the Force within her. Despite their skepticism, and with much persuasion by the Jedi Master, they allowed her entrance to the Jedi Order as a youngling. Only days afterwards, the Jedi who had perhaps saved Jaina’s life, died peacefully in his bed of old age. His spirit became one with the Force.
Beginning life as a Jedi youngling proved to be challenging for Jaina. Those around her surely noticed that something was preventing her from focusing, but nobody could understand what. Every night as she would daze into sleep, she would be haunted by images of her parents, though that was unknown to her as they had long since left her memory. The images called to her, telling her to come home. Often, she would wake up gasping for breath. These bizarre dreams still continue today.
Withstanding her burden was a difficult task for the young one. During her daily training, she often observed as the other younglings did as they were instructed. Something told her that she was different from them, that she didn't belong her. Meditations allowed her to move on, but the thought continuously lingered.
Ironically, even though distracted, Jaina grew a strong understanding of the Force. She developed a knack for the telekinetic and empowering aspects. As she trained with lightsaber combat, she let the flow of the Force guide her every movement; the Masters on the planet began to grow impressed with her. What she had excess with in physical combat was balanced with her lack of the more difficult Force aspects. Telepathy and healing were two traits she simply struggled with.
Amid the younglings, Jaina wouldn't speak often. There were a few Togruta that she enjoyed conversation with, but that was it. Instead of speaking with people her age, Jaina often preferred to speak with her many teachers. The young girl often asked questions one would expect from a Jedi Knight, and not a youngling. Valuable insight on the Force was gained through these conversation, and it helped strengthen her understanding. It helped her strive to become as wise as she could.
At the age of thirteen, the council decided that Jaina was ready to become a Padawan. Immediately, she met her first mentor: a Jedi Knight named Sereth Naston.
Beginning Life as a Padawan[/u]
Upon first meeting Sereth, Jaina had mixed feelings. One side of her said that he was clearly too young to be her mentor. He was twenty-two, and had recently ascended to Knighthood. On the other side, perhaps she was paired with him for the sake of having them both learn from each other. At some point, she eventually accepted his role as her mentor.
It was rather quickly she had learned that her initial beliefs were false; Sereth was wise beyond his years. Every morning, Jaina would meditate with Sereth for at least an hour. One day, Sereth meditated for an entire day; Jaina forced to do just as much.
Another day, the two spent time in the city streets, observing the world from the standpoint of an ordinary citizen. He pointed out how the Force flowed through everyone, and taught her that even the simplest of actions had the Force. To her, it was strange. Perhaps she didn't believe that not everybody held the Force within them. The lesson had a rather big influence on the way she viewed the Force. Jaina began to enjoy Sereth's personality, and he became not just her mentor, but a good friend.
Although most missions were peaceful, there were a few deadly encounters. On a mission in Dantooine in which Sereth took Jaina to see the crystal cave, the duo encountered a swarm of Laigreks. Together, the two were able to overcome the cluster of red-eyed monsters, but Jaina doubted that she would have survived without Sereth.
On Jaina's fifteenth birthday, the two decided to visit the ice planet of Hoth. While exploring, the two were attacked by a pair of enormous Wampa. Luckily, Jaina and Sereth had seen them charging, and they were able to put them down with relative ease. These adventures continued for another two years, before the mission that would change everything.
As the two grew closer, their relationship grew stronger. Sereth was like the father Jaina had never known. He taught her, and she listened. When she did wrong, he informed her such. It seemed as if their bond could never break.
The Conflict[/i]
Around Jaina's seventeenth birthday, Sereth had taken her to the world of Vinsoth to observe how the planet has changed over the many years after being hit by an asteroid. As they were finishing up their trip, they encountered something they did not expect; a Sith Knight and Apprentice roaming the area. As soon as the two pairs noticed each other, their lightsabers activated. Naturally, the battle shifted into two separate battles. While Sereth focused on the Sith Knight, Jaina battled against his apprentice.
Never before had Jaina felt the Force flow through her like it did at that very moment. Her foe fought much like she did; scanning for a weakness in her patterns. Seconds felt like minutes as the two clashed sabers repeatedly. If someone else had been watching, it'd look as if the two were locked in a fatal dance. During an exchange of attacks, the tip of the Sith's lightsaber skid across her right shoulder all the way to the left side of her mid back, leaving a burning scar. Wincing in pain, she ignored it as best as she could and continued the battle.
After almost five minutes of fighting, Jaina recognized a flaw in her enemies' style. When he withdrew his blade after every locked strike, there was a short period of time in which Jaina could slice his hand. As soon as the opportunity came, she took it.
With a scream of pain, her enemies' hand fell to the ground, along with his lightsaber. Not risking an opportunity for him to recover, Jaina slayed her enemy by stabbing through his heart. His body made a thump, and Jaina was sure she succeeded. Her heart was racing.
Remembering her master, Jaina turned around to find him pinned against the wall by the Sith's Force. With her lightsaber still active, she charged him, only to get sent flying backwards by the Sith Knight's power and pinned against a wall. Unable to move, Jaina could only look on, horrified, at what was about to take place.
"Feel the hate within you." the Sith Knight spoke to Sereth in a voice seduced by darkness.
"Master! Jaina cried. "Don't listen to him! You know what he's doing!"
"I can feel the lust for power within you." the Sith Knight continued. "Your Padawan has killed my apprentice; you may take his place. Slay your apprentice, and the passing will be complete." With those words, the Sith Knight dropped both Jaina and Sereth from his power's grasp.
"You fool!" Jaina cursed at the Sith. "He would never turn to darkness!" her voice was sure.
Jaina gazed into Sereth's eyes as he turned to face her. Instead of love and hope, all Jaina saw within him was lust and hatred. Tears began to fill her eyes as Sereth activated his lightsaber and walked towards her. "You have fallen." she cried. "The man I once knew has died."
At that moment, Sereth, who had appeared to have been heading towards Jaina, spun around and struck the Sith Knight down. Though it was necessary for their survival, Jaina knew that Sereth had murdered their attacker in cold blood. His eyes were like they were before: cold and heartless.
The two then left Vinsoth, albeit rather shaken up. Jaina would simply grow wiser through the attack. Sereth, however, had been impacted in a way that would change him.
The Turning[/u]
Later, Sereth was never the same. Whenever Jaina approached him, he seemed to have his mind constantly running. It even appeared that he stopped his routine meditations, something he had been doing since before she had even met her. Confronting him about the change was pointless, as he simply ignored her. Going on missions all together came to a stop. He simply turtled himself into his house.
Months after the Sith attack, Jaina walked to the edge of a cliff to find him standing on the edge, gazing out on the world. He turned around, and Jaina saw what he had become. His eyes once more held a burning hatred within him. He had fallen to the darkness, like the Sith Knight months ago had predicted.
Instinctively, Jaina backed up from her master. Like she had been trained, she activated her lightsaber; he activated his just as quickly. He told her she didn't want this to end with her death, and that she should join him.
Temptation at his request came to Jaina. The feeling of power tingled through her fingers simply at the thought of the dark side. She shook any temptation away, and denied his request. He shook his head at her, and used Force Lightning on her as he approached her, only for her to block it with her blade. In reality, the only reason she managed to survive was due to his lack of knowledge on the powers of the dark side.
When his focus on Force Lightning ended, Jaina immediately took the opportunity and pushed him using her Force Push, and fled back to the Jedi temple. Sereth was never found again.
Arriving at her destination, Jaina immediately requested a meeting with the council. Disbelief flowed as she told them her story, but they accepted that it was truth. Despite their losses, they commended her ability to think fast and survive.
With the past behind her, Jaina is currently paired with a new Jedi Knight.
RP Sample:
"Jaina, you feel the hatred inside of you." her old mentor, Sereth said to her. A grim smirk grew upon his face, while his cold, hateful eyes stared at her in a way that almost seemed to attract her.
No, she thought. You've been trained against this. Don't fall under the temptation.
Slowly, Jaina backed away from the man and activated her sapphire blue lightsaber, the elegant light reflecting off her fair skin. "Don't make me do this." she said, doing her best to sound strong. "I will strike you down." In reality, she felt anything but strong. This man was like a second father to her, and now she was forced to hold her ground again him. Taking a deep breath through her nose, she did her best to prepare.
"Your attempts to fool me are for naught." Sereth replied, an arrogant chuckle escaping his mouth. He activated his lightsaber as well. It was redder than a Laigrek's eye. "I know the way you think. You were, after all, my apprentice."
The two began to circle around, keeping their guard up. In a swift motion, Sereth leaped towards Jaina with a downwards strike. Reacting just as quickly, Jaina managed to parry his attack, and followed up with a sweep at his legs. Using the force, he did a backflip, avoiding Jaina's saber, and landed a short distance away. "You're going to have to do better than that." he taunted.
Rage began to grow in Jaina, and she began to struggle relying on the light-side of the Force. Aggressively, she entered a series of strikes with Sereth. With every strike, she began to move quicker and hit stronger. Eventually, her persistence was rewarded, and she managed to cut off the upper tip of his saber's hilt, disabling the blade.
Falling on his knees, Sereth began to laugh hysterically. "Do it Jaina, kill me. This is who you are."
Beginning to tremble, Jaina stepped back. "I can't kill you. That is not the Jedi way." she deactivated her lightsaber, and trembled.
"Do it." Sereth repeated.
It was then that his words began to echo. Do it. Do it. Do it. Like a record, his words repeated in his head on an unending circle.
"Make it stop!" she screamed and reactivated her saber and sliced towards him.
Then everything stopped as she woke up, gasping for breath. It was all a nightmare.
