Name:Jeto Lotel
Race: Miraluka/Firrerreo
Age: 78
Height:5’8
Weight:139lbs
Appearance:
Jeto has two toned hair, much like that of his fathers race. The more prominent color is dark brown, with some locks of dark red running through it. Most of the streaks are on the side or back of his head, though he does have two red strands in the strands in his bangs. His hair is a medium length, with his bangs being long enough to cover the cloth that he keeps tired around his face to hide his eye sockets.
Jeto’s build is not much to look at when compared to that of a Guardian or a Sentinel, but he is still in good shape. He is somewhat muscular, but nowhere near that of a body builder or someone who lifts weights constantly. Jeto’s body is built more for speed then strength. His skin is rather pale due to his Miraluka lineage. Jeto looks rather young for his age, most people when they see him believe that he is a Miraluka in his late twenties.
Due to his mixed heritage, Jeto has certain traits from both races. Jeto was born with eyes that were like those of his father’s race. However they were blind and had to be removed after his birth. This means that he doesn’t possess the ability to see into the ultraviolet range of the color spectrum like a member of the Firrerro race could or at all even. One trait he seemed to take form his father’s side of the family was an increased lifespan, allowing him to live much longer then that of a baseline Miraluka or Human. He still isn’t quite as long lived as a normal Firrerreo, but he is able to outlive many sentients. He also has minor regenerative abilities, small cuts and bruises heal rather fast, and serious wounds heal at a slightly higher rate then that of a human. He also possesses sharp canines, though they aren’t as noticeable as that of a baseline Firrerreo.
Jeto is like most Jedi in the sense that he doesn’t much care about what kind of clothes he wears. His wardrobe mostly consists of simple garments, such as white or grey tunics and pants of similar colors. He also has a black cloak that he wears when on missions, but even then he usually only wears it when the weather is bad. He is always seen wearing a piece of cloth in front of his face to hide his empty eye sockets, it is a dark brown so that it blends in somewhat with his bangs. He usually wears dark brown boots.
Jeto will do his best to look good when on certain diplomatic missions however. He has a few formal outfits that he will wear when he meets Senators, Governors, or nobility. He likes to give them a good first impression, and he feels that dressing up shows that while he did grow up isolated in a Temple, he still knows about the outside world.
Personality:
Jeto likes to think of himself as a typical Jedi, a protector of peace and justice. He does his best to remain logical and keep his emotions under control, but he has trouble doing so when someone’s life is in danger, even when it is someone he doesn’t know. He is a very compassionate and caring person, willing to put his life on the line for just about anyone. One thing that does set him apart from other Jedi is that he once had a relationship with another Jedi.
Jeto’s willingness to interact with others socially is rather inconsistent, sometimes he is rather eager to meet new people and chat with old friends, but other times he feels the need to go and train and isolate himself. When he is social he is a very polite and kind person, always trying to help others. When he wants to train he is still polite, but he ends conversations rather quickly so that he can go and train. He usually feels the urge to train when he feels like his day hasn’t been very productive.
In combat Jeto’s main goal is to keep himself and any of his friends/allies alive. He doesn’t enjoy combat, but he is willing to fight in order to protect others. As a Padawan and a Knight Jeto had often used his Lightsaber when in combat, but over the years he has relied less on his Lightsaber and more on the Force to aid him in combat, partially because he can accomplish more with the Force then with a Lightsaber and also because it is easier to incapacitate an opponent without cutting off their limbs. He is still a competent lightsaber duelist, and a master of using Soresu with many weapons, including a saberstaff. He is not as skilled in other forms however, making it hard for him to end a lightsaber duel quickly.
Jeto is a rather convincing person, thanks to years of going on diplomatic missions and also receiving advice from many politicians he has worked with. Jeto does his best to be honest and fair when negotiating. However he is willing to lie if he believes that it will better benefit the masses. He does not enjoy doing so however, and does his best to make sure everyone benefits from any arrangements that are made.
Jeto is decent when it comes to giving motivational speeches and his skill with protection can sometimes be useful on the battlefield. This has caused him to be sent on combat missions to help defeat small rebellions and to help find and eliminate pirate groups. He hates these missions more then lying to politicians, because he hates seeing people die. He does his best to defend the Republic Troopers without killing anyone, but if there is no other way Jeto will kill without hesitation. He will feel regret afterwards, and it is not uncommon for Jeto to meditate after a battle, and mourn the death of everyone that had died.
Despite being involved in many conflicts Jeto is far from a skilled tactician, he cannot handle having the lives of numerous people depend on his choices, and is far more concerned about keeping people alive to care about winning a battle.
Jeto isn’t very comfortable with that fact that he might outlive all of his friends. Most of the people he grew up with have grown old and frail while he has remained young and strong. Even his first apprentice looks older then him.

Lightsaber:
Jeto's first saber is rather plain looking. When it came time to build his first saber, Jeto focused more on making it work instead of making it look pretty. The exterior of the weapon is basically just a cylinder with a button on it near the top of the hilt. When Jeto uses Soresu, this is the saber he uses it with.
Jeto built a second saber later in his life, deciding to take up the weapon of his former lover. He decided to build a saber staff. It looks a lot prettier then his first saber, as it has an electrum hilt. The blades that extend from this weapon are rather short, allowing him greater mobility in combat. He tends to use Soresu or Shii-Cho with this saber.

Bio:
An unlikely Couple (Before he was even born)
Jeto’s father, a young Firrerreo by the name of Whon Lotel, decided to leave his home world to go explore the galaxy. He was a member of a very prestigious clan, and they were not happy with him wanting to leave. They tried their best to stop him, but he managed to escape his planet eventually, stealing the starship of one of his clan-mates. Whon was tired of living on his home world, he wanted to see the rest of the galaxy, meet members of other species.
While Whon was no pilot, the ships autopilot managed to plot him a course to the Core worlds, and he watched in amazement as the stars blurred and he entered hyperspace for the first time.
Eventually he found himself on Coruscant, the capital of the Republic. He quickly found that there was a difference between the culture of his home world and that of the Galactic Republic. They actually expected him to give them his name, even though they had only just met. Did they not know how dangerous it was to give someone their name? If a person just gave out their name freely, it would be far too easy for them to be found by someone, and what if that someone wanted to kill them?
After a couple of years Whon became somewhat accustomed to living on Coruscant, though he still did his best to keep his name secret to others. He ended up changing his name to Fen, he knew that it wouldn’t make much of a difference seeing as that would end up being the name showing up on computers and documents. But it would make it harder for his family to find him, at least somewhat.
His family did search for him however. Despite him leaving, his family was unwilling to give his name to authorities so that they could help in the search. They were upset with him for leaving, but they wouldn't go so far as to give out his name for the whole universe to know. This made finding him complicated, and in the end, futile.
After nearly a decade in Coruscant, Whon, now Fen, met the woman that would one day be his wife. She was a young Miraluka, much younger then Fen, but his race had such a long life span that the two looked the same age. The two were at first interested in each others ability to see, Fen thought it must have been amazing to see through the Force. The Miraluka woman was of course blind, and wished that she could see the world he did, able to see both the normal spectrum of light and the ultraviolet.
As the two talked they found that they enjoyed each others company, and began to meet up with each other frequently. They quickly formed an intimate relationship.
After being together for a couple of years they both decided that they wanted a child. They researched what they could about children with mixed heritages, and were excited when they found out that their child could possibly possess eyes as well as Force Sight. It was in fact common among Human/Miraluka hybrids. They believed that their child would be a superior being, possessing the traits of the already great Firrerreo and the sight of the Miraluka. Not that it mattered to the soon to be parents, they would love their child no matter what.
The only concern of the parents was the possibility that there could be complications when birthing the child. It often happened when a Miraluka/Human hybrid was born, so they assumed that something similar might happen with their child.
The two parents tried multiple times to have a child, but it was hard for them to conceive a child. They began to lose hope, but after awhile they finally managed to conceive one. The couple was happy, and hoped that they would be able to have a family.
The child did not make it however, and the couple began to lose hope in having a child. They continued to try and have one, but they no longer thought they would succeed.
They proved to be wrong however, they managed to conceive another child and while they tried not to, they couldn't help but hope once again that they would be able to start a family.
Doctors did their best to try and prepare the couple mentally for another miscarriage, telling them that the odds were slim, and even then there was a large chance of their being deformities.
Here Today, gone Tomorrow (Birth)
Jeto’s birth wasn’t as complicated as the couple or the doctors had thought thankfully. They had been worried that the baby’s life would be in danger, but the doctors managed to pull the baby out of his mother’s womb with ease. However was when they realized something was wrong. The child’s eye’s were misshapen and deformed. Some of the nurses looked at the child’s face with disgust, but his mother couldn’t wait to hold him in her arms.
Fen was not disgusted by his son’s appearance, instead he felt pity. He had hoped that his child would get the best of both worlds, the ability to see color AND see with the Force. Instead he would be like his mother. They were not poor, but they couldn’t afford to give him ocular implants. The doctors took the infant away from his parents for a couple of hours to perform surgery on his eyes, removing them and sealing up the sockets. Fen was worried that the procedure would traumatize the boy, but the doctors assured him that he would never remember the event.
After the procedure the doctors wrapped bandages around the boys head to cover his now sealed eye sockets while they healed, and gave him back to his mother. She once again held him in her arms, smiling sadly as she touched the bandages on his head. The doctors then said they had also run a few tests on the boy, and that he was extremely Force sensitive.
This shocked both Fen and his wife. They both knew that their son would have some degree of Force sensitivity, and had even fantasized about their son growing up to becoming a powerful Jedi Knight, but they never thought that he would actually have the potential to become one. The couple asked for some time alone, so that they could discuss the matter. The doctors then left the room as the couple decided the fate of their newborn.
Fen was not a poor man, but the type of lifestyle Jeto would have living with his parents would be nothing compared to living as a Jedi. He would have a career set up for him, always have a place to sleep and something to eat. The only problem the parent’s had with Jeto becoming a Jedi was that once he became a man he would be sent on dangerous missions. Eventually the two decided that Jeto would become a Jedi anyway, the galaxy seemed to be at peace so they doubted Jeto would be forced to do anything to dangerous.
The baby was handed over to the doctors after the couple said goodbye and reluctantly left. The doctors then contacted the Jedi and told them that they had a newborn who was strong in the Force, and a Jedi was sent immediately to pick him up. He was then taken to the Jedi Temple, which would be his home for the rest of his life.
Life as a Temple Boy (0-6)
The first couple of years Jeto spent in the Temple were in a nursery under the care of some of the older Jedi. As he and the other younglings grew to the age of three they began to attend classes similar to those other children would attend in Preschool. They learned how to count and were taught how to speak Basic, unless of course their vocal cords were unable to use the words.
Jeto was one of the brighter children, though he was not considered a genius. He could speak in sentences at a very young age and was above average in most of his classes, however he excelled in math and science. These classes were also the only ones that he liked.
One of the obstacles Jeto had to face as a young child was his blindness. Due to his young age it was rather hard for him to use his Force Sight, and he often bumped into things or stumbled over something. At first the other children laughed at him, making fun of him for their blindness. One of the masters did his best to teach the children to instead help Jeto navigate through rooms, but the young child was still laughed at on occasion.
As he turned five however, Jeto’s Force Sight began to develop more, and he found it a lot easier to navigate through rooms and hallways. He also could identify people he had seen before, when he was younger he could only see that a person was there but not know who they were until they spoke. Now he could ‘look’ at a person and know who they were, as long as he had met them before. He could also see what kind of mood someone was in based off of how he saw their presence in the Force, it would change color and shape based on the emotions of the person he was looking at.
Jeto was well liked among the other younglings. He was a nice kid, always willing to help someone if they asked, or if it was obvious that they needed it. He occasionally would crack a joke at someone, but he did his best to make sure that it didn’t hurt the other child’s feelings. He knew what it felt like to be hurt by a joke.
Despite being liked by most other younglings, there was one that didn’t like him. Quin, another youngling in Jeto's class, was a trouble maker and enjoyed pushing people's buttons. He would often antagonize Jeto, sticking out his foot as Jeto walked by and tripping him, then laughing and telling him to watch where he stepped.
Jeto wasn’t a confrontational person at all, so he rarely retaliated against Quin’s bullying. Instead he would usually run off to a master and tell him what the boy had done to him. He would occasionally retaliate if Quin would continue to harass him after the initial bullying, and Quin found out quickly that the blind boy could aim a punch with very little difficulty. The two boys would then wrestle each other, hitting and biting as they rolled across the floor. They would continue until a master came to separate them. Eventually the two had to be separated permanently; the amount of fighting between the two was ridiculous.
Once Quin was gone Jeto’s life got a lot better. He made even more friends, and didn’t have to worry about be bullying or getting in trouble for fighting back.
The Blind, the Brave, and the Stupid (6-11)
Jeto had two very close friends, two humans named Janis and Eric. They were almost inseparable. They would help each other in classes and when they began to learn about the Force and how to wield a lightsaber, they would help each other with that too. All three of them had their own strengths and weaknesses, and when one of them was skilled in an area that another was weak in, they would help the other improve.
All three of them enjoyed training with a lightsaber, even though Jeto had trouble learning Shii-Cho. Well some aspects of it anyway. When it came to deflecting blaster bolts, Jeto was probably one of the best amongst his clan. At first the other students thought it was because wearing a visor didn’t hinder him in anyway like the other students that relied on their eyes. As they progressed into their training however, they found that he still outperformed them. Both Janis and Eric were also skilled in deflecting blasters as well, but not to the same extend as Jeto.
It was dueling that Jeto had never been good at. More often then not Jeto would lose a duel than win, though he never suffered any humiliating defeat. He would manage to hold his own for a minute or two before finally being stuck down. Masters watching the battle would usually notice that Jeto rarely struck against his opponent, instead constantly defending until his opponent finally found a weak spot.
While Jeto was the worst duelist amongst the trio and even within his clan, he was a lot better at manipulating the Force. He was of course extremely good at sensing things in the Force, which was why he was so good at deflecting blaster bolts. He was also empathic, able to sense the emotions of his friends when he was near them.
He was average when it came to Telekinetics and using the Force to protect himself. When it came to manipulating objects, Jeto was better then most students, but no where near as skilled as those who were extremely talented in the ability, like Janis. She could pick up objects with ease, while Jeto had to put in some effort to lift the same object. When it came to using the Force to create barriers, Jeto was on the lower end of average ability. He could create barriers just fine, but they were usually weak.
After training for two years and figuring out who was good at what, the trio began to help each other improve in skills tat they were lacking. Jeto would help both of them try and improve their ability to feel the emotions of others. Janis would help her friends improve in Telekinesis, and Eric would help them learn how to create stronger Force barriers. With help from his friends and teachers, Jeto’s ability to create barriers and move objects began to grow. He was never considered one of the best at either of the two abilities, but he was considered good at them.
Finally found a master (11)
Jeto met his master, Kento Heson, one day while he was walking through the halls on the way to the archives. Jeto listened to Audio-books, and was going to listen to some people talk about certain aspects of the Force that day. Kento had been immediately interested in the boy when he saw that he wore a cloth around his eyes, thinking that he was a pureblood Miraluka.
Kento was an old man that studied the more difficult to learn aspects of the Force. He was known for his skill in rare Force abilities, as he had dedicated the later part of his life to learning them. He was sixty when he met Jeto, and had recently been studying Force Sight. He had yet to begin his actual training in the ability, but he wanted to talk to a Miraluka about how effective the ability was. Seeing as he doubted he would ever master the ability, talking to a young Miraluka would give him a better idea as to what limitations he should expect.
Kento and Jeto talked for nearly an hour, Jeto explaining to the older Jedi how he could see people through walls now, and that he could tell what kind of mood someone was in if they were close enough. Kento had to say he was impressed, both in the potential of the ability and in the boy. After they had finished talking about Force Sight Kento asked him about his training and how he was doing in his normal academics.
Once they were finally done talking Kent decided to take Jeto on as his apprentice. He told the boy that he would begin his training the next morning. They would start out slow until Kento knew what Jeto’s limits were with the Force. After Jeto left and went to sleep Kento looked through the boy’s grades to see how well he was really doing. The grades were fine, but what Kento was most surprised by was the fact that Jeto was a Hybrid, not a purebred Miraluka. The boy was also half Firrerreo, and some of the Jedi’s that had studied the boy while he was an infant speculated that he would outlive most other sentients within his youngling clan. He also had a bit of the Firrerreo's regenerative ability, as he healed from wounds at a noticeably faster rate then other kids.
Kento decided the boy would be a good apprentice, both because of his abilities and because of his genetics, and that he would be worthy of being Kento's last apprentice. Kento would do his best to make the boy the perfect Jedi, and make sure he was nothing like Kento’s first and only other apprentice…
The Master teaches the Student, and the Student teaches the Master (11-15)
Jeto’s training started simply, Kento testing his skill with the basics of manipulating the Force. Kento’s conclusions were similar to the ones made by Jeto’s youngling teachers, overall he was a skilled Force user for his age, except when it came to healing others and increasing his physical abilities. When it came to saber combat, Jeto was shown to still be a horrible duelist, but skilled in blaster deflection.
When the days training would be finished Jeto and Kento would discuss Force Sight, Kento occasionally asking Jeto what certain changes in an aura meant. Kento had tried to figure out what emotion or state each one meant, but he hadn’t left the Temple since taking Jeto as his apprentice. It was very difficult to read a Jedi’s face, and Kento thought it disrespectful to read the mind of a fellow Knight or Master.
As Jeto grew older his training changed, Kento trying to groom him to become a good diplomat. He helped the boy increase his skill in reading the mind of others, so that if he had to he could find out if a person he was negotiating with was hiding something from him. He warned Jeto to be careful with the ability however, that he had to resist the temptation to nudge a person’s thoughts towards agreeing with him, as it wasn’t right.
Jeto also learned how to use the Force to sense danger, as well as to better see the Force and its connection to all living things. He also learned how to ‘see’ how powerful a person was in the force, both their potential and their skill in manipulating the Force. Both this aspect of the Force and telepathy were the skills that Jeto had excelled at before becoming a Padawan, so his skill in them grew quickly. Kento also had him continue his training in Telekinesis and Protection, so that he could defend himself if he needed to.
Kento wasn’t a good healer, and he didn’t care much for lightsaber combat so had never really trained in increasing his physical abilities. This led to Jeto being trained only in the abilities he was good in, leaving him weak in those areas. While he often thought that he should learn a bit about healing, Kento told him that a diplomat wouldn’t necessarily need to learn that. People were rarely injured severely during negotiations, and if for some reason a fight broke out during negotiations Jeto would have his skills in Telekinesis and creating barriers to protect others.
Jeto still hung out with Eric and Janis, who also had become Padawans. They still helped each other train, but for the most part just talked and goofed around every time they met. Janis had become the apprentice of a Weapon’s Master, and was learning how to use a double-bladed lightsaber. Eric was being trained as a healer. He had always been the most skilled healer amongst the trio, and possessed a good bedside manner despite his inability to hold a very interesting conversation.
Kento was the one that told Jeto that he was part Miraluka and part Firrerreo. Jeto had known that he was born from two species, and that one of them was a Miraluka. He had figured he was also half human, seeing as the only thing he had seemed to inherit from his non-Miraluka parent was eyelids. He had never really thought about the fact that he healed faster then most or his peers or his strange hair that he couldn't even see. He had never bothered to see what race he was, his parents had given him up so he didn't want to know who they were or anything about them. At first Jeto thought his increased lifespan would be a blessing. He would have more time to train then most Jedi, more time to reach his full potential. He would be able to protect the Republic for more then just one mere century.
Jeto hit puberty at 13 years old, and he hated it. Even though Jeto had been trained as a Jedi for as long as he remembered, all of the techniques he had learned to hide and control his emotions couldn’t save him from what he began to experience. He found himself more interested in the auras of females then that of males. Whenever he was around girls he felt a strange feeling move through his body.
The feelings were stronger when he was around Janis. Even though he was blind, Jeto had a good idea as to what Janis’s figure looked like because his skill in seeing through the Force was increasing to the point that he could make out what objects looked like... and people. He found himself dreaming about the two of them together, hugging, talking, and worst of all... kissing. Jeto knew that love was forbidden in the Jedi Order, so he asked Kento what he should do.
Kento found Jeto’s problem amusing, to the embarrassment of his young pupil. It was natural for him to feel nervous around girls, but Jeto needed to learn to control his feelings for Janis. Jeto asked if he should avoid Janis, but Kento said that he shouldn’t, saying that a Jedi should not avoid their problems, but overcome them. Jeto thanked Kento for his advice, hoping that he would be able to learn to control his feelings.
Jeto did his best to act normally around Janis, but sometimes he would say something really stupid or would try and do something to impress her. She enjoyed lightsaber dueling, so Jeto began to train harder in learning the movements of Shii-Cho. He and her would duel every once in awhile, and she would almost always beat him. It embarrassed him, being beaten by the girl he liked. Sometimes he would challenge other kids to duels as well. He did better against most of them, but still lost most of the time.
Jeto eventually confessed his feelings to Janis, also apologizing for his pathetic attempts to get her attention. Janis looked at him, shocked. She then told him that it wasn’t a problem, and that she liked him to. They both then agreed that they would have to ignore their feelings. Their masters had told them how love could lead to the dark side. Neither of them wanted to follow that path. They promised each other that they would remain friends but they wouldn’t act on their feelings.
Jeto then told Kento of his and Janis’s promise. His master told him that it would be hard, but he would be a better Jedi for it. He told the boy that he would have to ignore any and all feelings he felt for girls he knew in the Temple, as well as girls he met while on missions. It was not a Jedi’s job to listen to their hearts, or to give into their emotions. They had to forsake all passion, all feelings, so they wouldn’t get in the way when a decision had to be made.
When Jeto told his master that he understood, Kento gave him a smile. He told the boy that one day he would understand, but it would take years. He then told the boy that they would begin taking missions. They would be sent on diplomatic missions within the Core and Mid Rim. He then gave Jeto a lightsaber. It wasn't as powerful as the ones used by older Padawans, but it could leave bad burns on a person and burn through them if enough force was applied.
Jeto went on few missions with his master when he was younger. His master was more concerned with his training then going on missions at that point. He figured they would have plenty of time for missions when Jeto was older, and ready. For the first four years of training Kento and Jeto remained on Coruscant, occasionally doing small missions there like catching criminals that proved to be troublesome for the local police.
Mission to Balosar (15)
A couple of months after his 15th birthday, Jeto went on his first off world mission. Balosar was not a planet most masters took their Padawans. It was a rather dangerous place. Many of the locals were poor and had to resort to performing criminal activities in order to make any money.
Kento however had been assigned a mission to speak with the high ranking officials of the planet. Some of the gangs on the planet had gotten so large that they were beginning to expand off world, and the Galactic Republic couldn’t let that happen. So they sent Kento, his apprentice, and a young Jedi Knight named Telo to try and see if more money could be put into Balosar’s law enforcements, and to also get information regarding how out of control the gangs were. The Council had originally tried to get the officials to just send them the information, and that they would be able to help decide what should happen a lot quicker if they did that. But the local government wanted the meeting to be in person, as they didn’t want information regarding their budget and how much they knew about the gangs to be sent off planet, in case one of the gangs might intercept the message.
So the three Jedi were sent to Balosar. The Council of Reconciliation were at first hesitant to send a Padawan to Balosar, however it was only to visit the planet and he would have a Jedi Master and a Jedi Knight there with him. They decided that the boy would be safe, and sent him to the planet.
For the first time Jeto was outside of the Temple. For 15 long years that had been his entire world, with other planets just being things he heard about while listening to Audio books. He felt the ship accelerate and while he couldn't see them, he knew from his audio books that to Kento and Telo the stars blurred as the ship shot forward into space.
They remained in hyperspace for a couple of hours, Kento explaining to Jeto that he would walk with Kento to the meeting, and he would remain quite as Kento spoke with the government officials. Jeto told his master that he would stay quite, and his master patted him on the head and gave him a smile.
Jeto and Telo talked a bit as well. Telo told him about his Jedi Trials, how they had been rather difficult for him. He talked abut the missions he went on as well, telling Jeto about the sort of adventures he had. Jeto listened to the young knight’s story, wondering what sort of adventures he would go on when he became a Knight. The two talked for most of the journey, with Kento watching the two. He wondered if Telo would go on missions with the two more often, it seemed like he and Jeto would become good friends.
They exited hyperspace and made their way onto the poverty stricken planet. They had exited hyperspace on the wrong side of the planet and were forced to fly around it. This took them another hour, but eventually the ended up in the right city. As they traveled through the city, Kento began to act strange. He constantly looked around the city, as if he was expecting something bad to happen. He said nothing to Jeto or Telo however, leaving the two confused.
Then it happened, all of the sudden the ship began to rock back and forth, sirens began to blare. It seemed that a part of the ship had just been broken. Telo rushed to the front of the ship, telling Jeto and his master that whoever had inspected the ship had been an idiot, and that they were going to crash. He then told Kento and Jeto to strap themselves into their seats.
Jeto grabbed his seat belt and attempted to put it on, but he was panicked, and he found himself slipping on the straps as he felt the ship begin its descent. He was blind, so he did not see them falling. They were moving to fast for him to sense anything around them, and for all he knew he would crash into the ground and die at any second.
Telo saw this, and quickly unstrapped himself from his chair and rushed to help him. Kento was panicking too, however he didn’t unstrap himself. Instead he began to manipulate the Force, trying to slow their descent. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough.
As soon as Telo strapped Jeto into his chair they hit the ground. Jeto ‘watched’ as Telo flew forward, smashing into the front of the ship. His senses then went blank as the ship began to toss and turn and he fell into unconsciousness.
When he woke up, Kento was tending to a wound on his arm. There a small piece of durasteel lying next to him, with a bit of blood on it. Jeto didn’t know this however; he just knew that his arm hurt. It took Kento a few minutes to wrap the arm in medical tape and then a few more before Jeto’s mind began to work properly.
He asked where Telo was. Kento was hesitant for a moment, and then he told Jeto that Telo didn’t make it. He had been killed during the crash, smashing into the front of the ship then bouncing around as the ship spun. Kento said he had tried to save him, but he wasn’t strong enough. Jeto then demanded that Kento take him to Talo, saying there was no way he could be dead.
The young naïve boy followed his master, who walked slowly back to the wreckage, not wanting his Padawan to have to experience the pain of losing a friend, even if it was one that Jeto has just met. They boy may have been 15, but he was too young for what he found.
Jeto sat next to Telo’s body for hours, weeping over the corpse. There were no tears however, as his tear ducts were removed shortly after birth when his eyes had been removed.
When he was done felt mad, why did Telo have to die? In his anger he took out his training saber and threw it at the ship, cursing the stupid ship for breaking down and causing Telo to die.
Kento did his best to comfort the boy, telling him that Telo was one with the Force. Jeto still missed Telo, and also felt partially responsible for his death. However knowing that Telo had become one with the Force did make him feel a bit better.
Kento contacted the local government and managed to get them a ride. The ship had crashed next to a factory on the planet. However nothing had been damaged other then the ship. Before they left Kento asked Jeto if he was going to pick up his training saber. Jeto shook his head. He didn’t want the thing, because he didn't want to learn how to use a weapon that could kill someone. Kento tried to explain to him that a saber wasn’t just used for killing, but it would take a few weeks for him to convince his apprentice otherwise.
Kento managed to get the information needed, and even helped with the budget a little. He didn’t take as much time as he should have to complete the mission however, wanting to get Jeto back to the Temple as soon as possible. They left after a few days, and returned home without incident. They took Telo’s body with them, and his body was cremated at the Jedi Temple. Jeto attended the cremation despite Kento urging him not to. He stayed until the body turned to ashes, then went back to his room and cried himself to sleep.
Recovery and Form 3 (15-16)
It took Jeto a few weeks to recover from the ordeal. He only spent a few days recovering from his physical wounds, but he was still in mental shock over what had happened on Balosar. He still blamed himself for Telo’s death, if he hadn’t panicked Telo wouldn’t have had to unbuckle himself from his seat and he would have been fine. When he slept he dreamed of the moment. He felt the seat belt as he tried to buckle it in but couldn’t. He sensed Telo as he ran to him to help, buckling him in barely in time. Then he felt the jolt as the sip hit the ground, heard Telo’s scream as he was thrown to the front of the ship.
Kento didn’t know what to do with his apprentice at first. He did his best to comfort his young apprentice, constantly telling him that Telo had become one with the Force. He would have the boy do training exercises to get his mind off of the incident, or would force the boy to hang out with his friends. Slowly the boy managed to recover form the ordeal, but he still refused to practice Shii-Cho. He said that a real lightsaber could kill someone, and he never wanted to end someone’s life.
Kento then told Jeto about Form III. It was a form completely dedicated to defense. It was a difficult form to learn, and even more difficult to master. Someone who used the form wouldn’t kill anybody, the forms purpose was to tire an opponent out or convince them to stop fighting. The weakness of the form was that the user had to prepare for a long fight, and had to remain focused on the fight at all times. A single lapse in concentration could result in the death of the user.
Jeto thought about it for a few days, and then told Kento that he would take on the form. He knew that a diplomat needed to be able to defend himself incase something happened, and seeing as Form III was only used in defense, he would learn it.
Kento had expected Jeto to struggle with the form, as he struggled with Shii-Cho, but the boy caught onto the form quickly. It seemed as though he had been born to learn that form, he had never been good at attacking others, and had also been decent at deflecting blasters. Despite his lack of skill in lightsaber combat, Jeto even did well in learning how to utilize Soresu against another Jedi.
Kento also altered Jeto’s training in using the Force around this time. He began to have Jeto focus on increasing his skill in creating barriers as well as his already powerful sensing abilities. His skill in Telepathy became a close third in his training, with training in Telekinesis being the least trained of the abilities Kento was training Jeto in. Body and Healing were still left out of Jeto’s training regiment, and he was barely able to use either.
Jeto proved to be skilled in the four chosen aspects of the Force, Kento often thinking that the boy would surpass him one day.
Jeto was taught how to incorporate some of his abilities with Soresu, such as using the Force to sense an attack before it happened, or using his protection abilities to block a Force attack. Telekinesis was also used, mostly in the form of pushing an opponent away from Jeto.
It’s not a weapon, it’s a shield (16)
Kento decided that Jeto was ready to build his Lightsaber. Jeto made sure to be careful when he built the hilt for his lightsaber, however when it came time to put pieces on to be the casing Jeto simply put on a few pieces of metal with an activator switch, making the hilt look rather plain. He did not care what his lightsaber looked like. He didn’t think the appearance of his lightsaber mattered.
After Jeto finished building the hilt of the lightsaber, Kento took the boy to Ilum, where he would find his lightsaber crystal, the last and most important piece of his lightsaber. Jeto was excited to finish his Lightsaber, it was a sign that he was on his way to becoming a Jedi Knight. Kento agreed with him, it was an important step.. Jeto then chuckled as he looked back at his master, saying that his Lightsaber would be a shield for both himself and the innocent. Kento shook his head at his apprentice’s bad joke, putting his hand on his shoulder. “Yes, it might as well be.”
When the two arrived on Ilum, both left the ship and walked to the mouth of the cave. Kento stopped at the mouth of it however, telling the Near Human boy that he would have to travel through the cave alone. He warned him that he would have visions, but that he believed Jeto was ready for them. Jeto nodded, but felt nervous and afraid as he began to walk into the save, unsure as to what he would see.
At first Jeto saw nothing, and began to think that perhaps his Force Sight had allowed him to see through the illusions, and that he would be fine. That was when he began to hear the whispers. At first he could barely hear them, only making out the words unworthy and arrogant fool. As Jeto began to listen, he could hear what the voices were saying. They told him he was unworthy of becoming a Jedi, that he was an arrogant fool. They said that he thought himself better then the other Jedi because he was gifted in the Force, and that he was born with the ability to see the Force. The then began to tell him that he was weak, how could he be a Jedi if he wasn’t even skilled with a Lightsaber?
The voices got in his head, and Jeto began to believe that maybe the voices were right, maybe he wasn’t worthy of being a Jedi. Memories of every mistake he ever made both as a Padawan and even as a youngling, appeared in his mind as his steps began to slow. Jeto did his best to drive the memories from his mind, to tell himself that he was NOT a failure. He thought back to his training with Kento, how his master would praise him when he did something right, and was proud of him. He thought of his two best friends, the fun they had and how they helped each other train. With each memory the voices grew quieter, until they finally disappeared.
Jeto felt through the Force to try and make sure the illusions were gone, but instead found a large concentration of Force energy up ahead of him. The young Padawan quickly moved towards the concentration. He soon found himself in a room full of crystals. Jeto could not see colors, but he knew that they were all either blue or green. Jeto looked around the cave, trying to find the crystals that would be right for him. He knew that he should not pick the biggest crystals he should find, he needed to find the crystals that were right for him.
He eventually found the crystals he knew were right for him, a small formation that seemed to glow with the Force. Using the Force, he separated a few of the crystals from the formation, and they glided into the young Padawan's hand. He then continued to walk through the cave, searching for the dais at which Padawan's completed their Lightsabers.
He eventually found it, and placed both his Lightsaber hilt and the crystals upon it. He then sat cross legged in front of the dais, and began the long process of attuning his Lightsaber crystals to him.
Jeto sat there for hours uninterrupted until his master arrived, bringing him some food and providing him some company while he ate. They talked about the voices Jeto had heard, and Kento said that he had expected as much. When Kento had traveled through the caves he had experienced visions, but he didn't think that Jeto would due to his Force Sight. He didn't think that the cave would be able to create an illusion so powerful that Jeto couldn't look through it. Jeto hoped that his master was right. He did not want to have to see and hear things while he was in the cave.
It took Jeto a long time to tune the crystals to him, his master visiting him to bring him food when he needed it. Jeto finally finished the saber shortly after his master had left for the day, and picked it up. He looked over the tool carefully, making sure he did not mess up anything when he had built the hilt. Believing that his Lightsaber had been properly constructed, Jeto activated the Lightsaber blade. While he could not see the color, he could hear the blade of plasma jumping from the hilt of the Lightsaber, and could sense the energy of the blade.
He then heard a familiar, yet unexpected voice behind him. He turned around and saw a Force presence, one he recognized as Janis. She congratulated him for making his Lightsaber, and then began to walk towards the boy. Jeto began to ask her why she was there, but then she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him in close to her. He asked her what she was doing, to which she smiled.
She told him that now that he had built his Lightsaber they could leave the Order, they could start a new life together. With Jeto's Lightsaber and their combined Force abilities they could easily protect themselves, and they could be together and try to live a normal life.
Jeto had no idea if it was an illusion or not that was holding him and giving him an offer that he didn't want to refuse, but he did know that it felt real. Jeto's mind began to spin as he tried to figure out what he wanted to do, run off with Janis or stay and become the Jedi Knight he always wanted to be? As he thought Janis began to move closer to him, pressing her body up against him. As much as it hurt him to say the words, Jeto told Janis that he couldn't go with her, that he wanted to be a Jedi Knight.
Jeto had expected to see Janis look sad, but instead her aura appeared happy, and she let go of him. She congratulated him once again, and then walked towards the mouth of the cave, her Force presence slowly disappearing as she walked....
Hours later Jeto awoke to Kento nudging him from sleep, a smile on his face as he held his apprentices newly crafted Lightsaber. Jeto got to his feet slowly, wondering if the Janis he had seen had been in a vision or a dream. It had been so vivid, so real, that Jeto doubted that he had dreamed the whole experience. Taking his Lightsaber from his master's hand, the two began to walk towards the ship. Jeto told his master about the vision, about how Janis had offered to leave the Order with him and how he had wanted to accept. He had thought that his master would be angry with him for considering the offer, but Kento just gave his apprentice a pat on the back, telling him that not every choice he made would be easy for him, that a Jedi constantly had to make tough decisions like the one Jeto had made in the cave.
Back onto the grind, Diplomatic missions (16-18)
After Jeto built his lightsaber, he realized that it was about time he went on missions again. He told Kento this, and the old Master began to apply for missions for him and his Padawan. He didn’t want to go on any combat missions. He didn’t want Jeto to see any more death until he was old enough.
Jeto and Kento went on a lot of diplomatic missions, making sure to stay in the Core worlds to make sure they remained safe. Kento did his best to teach Jeto how to negotiate peace treaties and trade disputes. He also made sure that Jeto didn’t abuse his ability to read minds. He told Jeto that he couldn’t read a persons mind without just cause, that it wasn’t right to read the mind of everyone they interacted with. Jeto would do his best to listen to his master’s advice, but sometimes he would feel tempted to enter the mind of a politician or whoever they were talking to, just to make sure they weren’t lying.
Occasionally instead of diplomatic missions they would go assist survivors of natural disasters. They were not healers, but they would assist the healers in finding survivors and also helping them rebuild their homes. They never stayed long however, only until others arrived to help. While on some of these missions Jeto would see Eric, who was still being trained to become a healer. The two would often talk to each other on the way to the planet where the disaster had occurred. They would tell each other about their training, Eric talking about what sort of healing techniques he was learning, and Jeto talking about his training in diplomacy and the many aspects of the Force he was training in.
When he wasn’t training or going on missions, Jeto would hang out with his friends. He sometimes felt awkward around his Human and other Near Human friends, as he looked and felt younger then all of them. He felt especially awkward around Janis, who he still had feelings for. Kento of course noticed that Jeto still had feelings for Janis, and he did his best to tell his young Padawan that he couldn’t let himself get emotionally attached to Janis. It was forbidden for a Jedi to love, and Kento didn’t want Jeto to get into the habit of falling for girls. Jeto told his master that he tried to not think of Janis in such a way, but he found it impossible.
Kento decided that he would have to separate Jeto from the girl, and took him to the enclave on Dantooine. Jeto was reluctant to go, but he did as his master told him, knowing it was for the best. During the trip there Kento apologized to his young apprentice, saying he knew that Jeto wouldn’t enjoy being away from Janis but that it had to be done. Kento had hoped that Jeto would have been able to let go of the feelings himself, but it seemed that he couldn't. Jeto only nodded, he knew that his master was right, but he still didn’t like it.
The enclave on Dantooine became Jeto’s home for the next few years. It was a lot smaller then the Jedi Temple, almost every Jedi there knew each other unlike in the Temple on Coruscant. There was no map needed to move through out the enclave, he didn’t need to spend years learning where everything was. He only needed one tour and a couple of reminders to figure out where everything was.
Kento and Jeto still went on missions like they had before, traveling from Dantooine back into the Core worlds when they went on missions. They also began to go to worlds in the Mid Rim, such as Naboo and other peaceful planets. They continued with their nonviolent missions as well, even as Jeto reached the age of 18. Jeto was glad that he wasn’t going on dangerous missions, he was more then content with saving people’s lives and also increasing their quality of life through rescue missions to help people during natural disasters and diplomatic missions.
Kento did plan for Jeto to begin combat missions soon however, the boy needed to experience real combat before he faced his Jedi Trials and became a Knight. As much as Kento wished it, being a keeper of the peace sometimes meant that a Jedi had to take up their weapon to defend the Republic. Diplomacy doesn’t always work; sometimes people are just too stubborn or to arrogant to listen.
During this time Jeto’s skill with a lightsaber improved during his training sessions with Kento. He was beginning to master Shii-Cho and his skill with Soresu was improving in leaps and bounds. Jeto enjoyed using Soresu during training, when sparring with other Padawans or when he was practicing blaster deflection. Despite being a horrible duelist when he was youngling, he actually managed to win a couple of sparring matches, and was considered a duelist of at least average skill. When it came to blaster deflection he was still far better then other Padawans of his age.
When it came to Force abilities, Jeto was considered to be fairly powerful in the four abilities he was being taught in. He was starting to show great skill skill in his ability to sense others, and his ability to create protective barriers. His telekinetic abilities and his ability to read minds were also proving to be a bit above average as well.
Out of his comfort zone (18-20)
Shortly after he turned 18, Jeto was forced to go more dangerous missions. Kento knew that his apprentice still feared death, but he also knew that he would have to force Jeto to accept that death was something a Jedi would have to deal with. The two began to go on missions closer to the outer rim, with every mission getting a bit more dangerous. At first, the two Jedi were able to avoid conflict with any pirates or mercs that tried to get in their way through talking or through simple displays of their power, scaring them away. As the missions got more dangerous, they began to have to fight against their enemies, much to Jeto’s dismay.
Jeto killed a man at the age of 19, a young merc that had charged at him with a vibroknife while Jeto and Kento were on a small mining planet. Jeto was so scared that his arms shook, and when he moved to cut the man’s arm off, he instead cut the man in half as well. In his terror he had lowered his blade more then he should have. Jeto felt the man’s presence become one with the force. He could sense the life leaving his body. Jeto ran from the corpse, and from the battle he and Kento had been engaged in.
After Kento finished dealing with the mercs he sought out Jeto, and quickly found him in an alley, on the ground next to his own vomit. Kento helped his apprentice to his feet, telling him that it wasn’t his fault. Jeto was shaking as Kento led him back to the ship, leaving him with the pilot while he finished the mission. The pilot tended to Jeto while Kento was gone, trying to calm down the young man.
When Kento returned, Jeto was better. He wasn’t shaking anymore, but he wouldn’t respond to Kento when he tried to talk to him. For the whole trip back Jeto remained silent, constantly reliving the moment where he killed the man. The man didn’t have to die. It wouldn’t have been as bad if Jeto had cut off his arm. He wondered dif the man had a family, he was young, would his mother know what happened to him? Would she know it was a Jedi that killed him?
Jeto didn’t know what to think, he knew that he had to kill the man, but he hated himself for doing it anyway. He would have killed Jeto in a heart beat, without a second thought. But he still felt so bad, he should have been able to push the man away with the force, or cut of one of his limbs with a lightsaber. He had trained in Soresu for 3 years, yet he still cut a man down when he didn’t have to.
It wasn’t until they arrived back on Dantooine that Jeto revealed his feelings to Kento, telling him that he hated himself for killing the man, and he should have been able to stop him without killing him. Kento did his best to try and comfort his Padawan, to try and help him understand that sometimes it couldn’t be helped.
From that day onward Jeto trained even harder in the way of Soresu, trying to not only learn the form, but to live it. He tried to avoid conflict wherever he could, with enemies on missions and with other Padawans on Dantooine. Whenever he entered a verbal debate he would always defend his side of the argument until his opponent revealed a glaringly flaw in their logic, then he would quickly point it out in an attempt to end the conflict.
Jeto also became more introverted, rarely talking with the friends he made on Dantooine when he first arrived. He had never been talkative, but after the event on the mining planet Jeto preferred to be alone even more often, and rarely let his peers know what was going on inside his head.
Kento was the only one who Jeto would confide in. He would tell him about how he still dreamed of that man he had killed, about how his aura seemed to almost haunt him. He would tell Kento that he was glad Kento was his master and that he wanted to become a diplomat when he was older, or maybe even a teacher. He hated combat, so much death and pain. He preferred talking with others to resolve the issues, so that fighting might not even erupt. He also liked teaching, imparting what knowledge he had onto the younglings.
Sometimes when he wasn’t training he would assist some of the Masters with their lessons, helping them keep the children in line as well as helping some students one on one if their instructor was to busy. He enjoyed passing on what knowledge he had to the younger kids, and thought it was interesting the one day one of them might even become his Padawan, once he was knighted of course.
Kento told Jeto that he shouldn’t be trying to find a Padawan just yet. He still had a few years left of training before he took the Trials. And even after that, he should wait a few years to take on an apprentice of his own. It wasn’t wise to take on an apprentice when one had been an apprentice themself not to long ago.
Jeto could see his master’s wisdom in that, but whenever he helped train younglings he couldn’t help but think what it would be like if one of them was his Padawan, and he could teach them how to be a diplomat and take them on diplomatic missions. The only bad part would be when he would have to take them on combat missions. He wouldn’t want his apprentice to have to see death and pain.
It was something they would have to learn to deal with however, just like how he was trying to learn to deal with it himself. The first man he killed often plagued Jeto’s thoughts, the same questions arising in his mind whenever he thought of him. Did he have a family? Does his mother know what happened to him?
As Jeto went on more and more combat oriented missions as he grew older, to 20 years old. He tried his best to battle in the way of Soresu, to deflect his enemies blasters and vibroblades away, waiting for them to run low on ammo or get fatigued. But he was not skilled enough, and often found that he tired while his enemies reloaded, while they continued to hack away at him. Many times Kento had to save Jeto from a life threatening attack, or Jeto would be forced to slay one of his opponents to save his own life.
Every man he killed haunted Jeto, their auras joining that of his first kill in his dreams. The same questions always ran through his head. He learned to live with the ghosts, the guilt they pressed down on him constantly. If he had been better, he might have been able to arrest them instead of kill them.
