Hello, one and all. This will be the main hub thread for all information for the first SWU Tournament.
First a bit of basic information about the Tournament and how it's going to be set up. There will be a number of duels ongoing at the same time for each of the rounds. Once they're all concluded, the winners will move on to the next round. Presently, it's looking like there will be about 5 rounds total.
Grading in the tournament will be handled the same way it is in normal duels. Each duel will be 4 rounds long. At the end of a duel, the writer with the most points will advance.
Because the winners of duels are reached based on criteria of writing, rather than killing the other player or winning the fight itself, it is possible to 'lose' a fight but still advance. This will have no repercussion on the character or their future matched, since each battle is its own standalone event. This also has absolutely no effect on the characters IC. This is a purely standalone event.
I'm still allowing time for people to respond to the Roll Call PMs, but this is a list of those participants and their characters that have confirmed their participation so far.
If you have signed up and still intend to participate but are not listed here, please check your PM Inbox as soon as possible and let me know that you do. I must have confirmation that you still plan to participate before I can create the final bracket for use in the tournament.
Speaking of the bracket, some participants are going to get byes for the first round while some others will have to 'play in' to the second round, which would be the first 'full' round. Who they will be, I won't know until you do, because the organizer I use assigns seeding randomly. But do know that's likely to happen, because we probably won't end up with a final tally of participants that's an exponent of 2.
When the tournament begins, participants will have the option of letting their judge know if they want the fight to be to the death or simply until the 5 turns are up. You will also have a period of 10 days to respond when it's your turn. If you do not post within that period, you will be disqualified and the other participants will advance. This is to keep this thing moving; otherwise this is going to take all year. If this limit keeps being hit, it may be shortened; we don't want to spend two months on every duel or we'll never finish. If you know something is going to come up (going out of town, for example) that will make you unable to respond in that time period, please alert Dutch and myself.
Here is a list of those who will be judging the tournament:
And that is all for now.
A bit more time will be allowed for people to respond to the Roll Call PMs. When the time's come to get this underway, I'll post here again with more information and the bracket.
We're almost there, folks.
