Bio:
Ken was born on Tattoonie to a moisture farmer father and cantina waitress mother just outside of Mos Espa. For the first year or two Ken spent most of his time alone. Each of Ken's parents spent all of their time working trying to met ends meet so in his crib he laid staring up at the walls. As soon as Ken could walk his father had him going out to the Cantina with his mother to keep him out of his father's way. The owner of the Cantina looked after Ken and even let Ken help clean the place up here and there just to keep Ken busy. Ken got to know some of the regulars and here about stories in place and of other worlds. Most of it Ken did not understand but it was the most attention he had ever received so he was hooked.
By Ken's teenage years he started running around with other boys his age that he ran into around the cantina and city. They did things like sneak into the star port being the bane of the works loading and off loading vehicles and small freighters. To say that Ken never got in trouble would be a lie but he always managed to stop short of getting arrested. It was not long before Ken was sent back to the farm to work on the harvest with his father in an effort to keep him out of trouble. Ken hated the farm with a passion yearning to be back around people again doing something useful. Ken started sneaking off back inot the city to be with his friends. The first few times Ken got caught and suffered savage beatings from his father when sent back home. Rather than learn his lesson Ken just got sneakier perfecting the art of moving in short bursts when nobody was looking. For awhile that worked until one day he slipped up. That day Ken's father nearly beat him to death. Ken spent a month in the hospital. When he got out a few of the locals helped Ken slip off of the planet on a freighter. What Ken did not know was that the freighter was headed through Sith space and would be boarded.
Ken was 19 when the freighter he was smuggled off of his home planet was intercepted by the Sith Navy. The pilot attempted to fight off the boarding party but was largely unsuccessful being killed by the troopers when he fired on them. Ken however rather than take a head on approach slipped around the freighter staying out of sight for nearly two hours before finally being spotted by one of the troopers. I fist fight ensued with Ken now nearly six foot having a good four inches over the trooper and thirty pounds. In the end Ken of course lost as the noise alerted other troopers. The LT in charge of the boarding party impressed by Ken's fiery nature spared Ken's life choosing to have Ken drafted instead of imprisoned.
Ken turned out to be a less than stellar recruit. Ken would sneak off and skip classes to try and get into other areas of the academy. More than once Ken got caught and paid a heavy price. At the same time Ken was getting his punishments he never once would show any remorse for his actions or cry out in pain at the lashes he received. Ken maintained a firm expression on his face and a defiant look in his eyes. Ken barely made it out of the academy due to the amount of time he spent sneaking off. However Ken's first posting would test his abilities to move around without detection. Ken would be assigned as a Scout/Recon trooper.
Ken's training Sgt was a little more than a sadist who would use training session on a regular basis to test the ability of his troopers to remain undetected. Ken tried as best he could to be as invisible as possible but more often than not it failed. The punishment for failure was to be sent out into the wilderness with nothing but Ken's socks and a combat knife. The Sgt would drop Ken off in the middle of nowhere a few days from the camp and leave him there telling him to find his way back or die trying. The first time Ken did nearly die trying passing out a hundred feet from the entrance to the camp from dehydration and exhaustion.
Over time Ken got better at the skills needed to be a successful Scout trooper. The time and repeated beatings had taken it's toll on Ken emotionally. When not training with his squad Ken became reclusive avoiding contact with others around him. When in training Ken went all out taking things to the extreme pushing his fellow troopers to the brink not wanting the feel the wrath of the Sgt. Ken pushed them and pushed them to the brink of their abilities. When they succeeded Ken slipped off into the shadows but a strange thing happened when they failed. Ken in all the effort to avoid punishment found himself offering to take the sole blame for the squads failures.
Ken had been a scout trooper for about three years when they finally got their first real mission. Ken was a CPL by that time and Ken's squad had been tasked with patrolling and monitoring a stretch on jungle around an place that for whatever reason was of interest to the Empire. The squad managed to go almost a full week of gathering information without getting spotted. The mission would be declared and overwhelming success. Ken would know the victory of two more flawless missions before tragedy would strike his squad. During a high risk mission the squad would get spotted by a smuggling gang. In the ensuing fire fight the Sgt would get killed along with two other troopers and Ken would earn his first scar, the one above his eyebrow. The debrief was a long one and end the end with the squad leader dead Ken would become the new Sgt. Ken took the promotion but did so with a heavy heart. Now they would look to him to keep them alive and complete the mission.
Ken took to the task drilling his troopers day and night honing their skills so as to prevent a repeat of that disastrous mission. Ken lead his squad from the front going everywhere they went and on every mission that were tasked. Ken spent more and more time in the rec room between mission maintaining his fitness level. When he finished working on the body Ken would drown his emotions in a bottle at the nearest Cantina. Ken was mentally a mess but he could still do his job with the best of them. This went on for almost two years before s seemingly random series of events would change his destiny. Ken's squad would be assigned to scout a target of interest before a heavy assault squad would engage the target. The mission started off well enough in the beginning. They reached the objective and found out as much as they could about the enemy presence and abilities. Much to the dismay of Ken he realized that the enemy presence was more than a single platoon would be able to easily handle. When Ken reported his finding back to HQ he was told the were no other troops available to re-enforce the assault platoon. Ken looked at his squad and looking from one and then the other told them that rather than slip back into the darkness and only observe the assault they were going to re-enforce the assault platoon.
When the battle began Ken took his squad around to the left to flank the enemy while the assault force attacked from the front and the right. The battle raged on with a fierce intensity that Ken had never seen before. Just like Ken had expected the sides were more evenly matched then was desired. Blaster fire erupted from every direction it seemed and the scout armor which was made for speed and flexibility was not holding up very well against the sustained fire. Ken's troopers were slowly falling one by one while the assault platoon found themselves pinned down. Ken desperate to save what men he had left during the battle made one last ditch effort in hopes of distracting the enemy long enough to get the assault platoon back into the fight. Ken to the two other troopers still able to fight and with a blood thirst howl charges the enemy lines with a blaster in his hand and his combat knife strapped to his thigh. Ken's ploy worked and the enemy was taken by surprise but the price was a heavy one. Ken lost everyone of his scout troopers and Ken himself was wounded by blaster fire before engaging in hand to hand combat earning the scar across his chin has he fell losing consciousness.
Ken woke up in the hospital two months later severely depressed at the loss of his squad. Ken was informed that thanks to him and his heroic actions the mission was a success and the objective achieved. Ken spent three months in rehab healing and getting back in shape to get back to duty. It was during this rehab that he met another trooper, one who would have a great impact on Ken's future. The man was a fellow Sgt who was a member of Platoon who had been decimated during a battle with Republic forces lead by a Jedi. The two men were kindred spirits in their loss of men that had called brothers killed in horrific battles that never should have taken place. Ken felt like he had found a brother, a friend, and a compatriot. When Ken's was healed up he reported back to his battalion to get a new assignment. What Ken did not know was that his new found brother in arms was friends with had connections in the admin office. Ken received a meritorious commission to 2LT for his actions during his last mission and instead of going back to the Scout company was reassigned to one of the assault companies within the Battalion.
Life as an assault platoon commander was a bit of a culture shock to Ken. Ken found himself engaged in a completely different style of warfare in an unfamiliar war. If there was one thing Ken new it was the value of training and drilling like you were going to fight. It did help that Ken had built up a little bit of a cult following when parts of his service record found their way around to his new company. Ken with the memories of the troopers he lost threw himself recklessly into the heat of battle almost as if he thought the more risks he took the closer he became to joining his lost troopers in death. Ken did not like the command that kept him giving orders for other to follow while staying behind doing logistics. So Ken passed that part of it off to his platoon Sgt choosing to remain in the field.
Ken would lead seven missions over the next five years on just as many planets. With each one Ken stood out on the front line with his men leading the charge. Ken would use things that are uncommon for sustained assault forces split his platoon up into smaller groups and acting from multiple sides. Ken would basically apply scout tactics of speed over firepower avoiding this use of gun emplacements for quicker attacks that usually end up in close quarters in allot of cases hand to hand combat. Ken's superiors would shake their heads and wonder what Ken was thinking but none could argue with the results he proceeded and the love and admiration Ken had of his troopers. Even though he was a stern father figure that some times left them shaking in there boots the men respected an officer that would charge and hold the line with them. The last invasion that Ken's platoon would serve has a pivotal point in Ken's career this was the one that would cement his legacy. Ken would request the mission specifically to lead an assault against a republic outpost. The outpost was an early warning post for a planet the Empire needed to use as an forward operating base for further incursions against the Republic. The planet was official a neutral planet that the Republic was "protecting". Ken would take a re-enforced platoon into the outpost using Navy support to carpet bomb the outlying area of the outpost cutting off any chances of resupply and re-enforcements for a nearby city of Republic sympathizers. Ken would order the outpost flanked on both sides while Ken would lead a charge straight down the throat of the outpost. However this time Ken did things a little differently in that he would actually use heavy weapons in the assault.
The mission was an overwhelming success that proved not only the abilities of Ken as a trooper and as a commander. To fit the ever growing needs of the Sith High Command had begun to expand the military and specifically the Army. Three new Battalions had been created with Ken being chosen to lead a full company in one of those Battalions. The newly promoted Captain's career was just beginning and the Captain still remembered the people that helped get him there. The first thing Ken did was request an old friend from his days in the rehab hospital to be his 1stSgt.

Captain Ken Rathman is standing in his new office at Company head quarters looking over the personnel files of the troopers he would be commanding from this point on when he hears a knock at the door.
"Enter"
Ken looks up as the door opens and his old friend and new 1stSgt walks in.
"Ah yes 1stSgt you made it here just in time." "I was just reviewing the files on all of the troopers." "It looks like we have a fine group of men here."
The 1stSgt just smiles and nods.
"The company is formed and waiting on you Sir." "You ready to meet them all in person." "I have to warn you though some of them look entirely too young to be troopers."
Ken nods quickly organizing the files and heading towards the door.
"Yeah the quicker we get this part over with the quicker we can get to training them up and ready for combat."
Ken straightens his uniform and makes a quick pace outside to the parade area in front of the building with the 1stSgt only a step behind. When Ken gets to the formation already standing at attention the XO salutes.
"Sir all present and accounted for."
Ken returns the salute.
"AT EASE."
Ken paces back and forth for a moment looking at the formation before going back to the center and addressing the troopers.
"My name is Captain Ken Rathman." "Let's get one thing clear from the very beginning." "I will run you and I will run you until you feel like you are going to die." "Then I will run you some more." I will take blood, sweat, and tears from each and every one you." "I will do this not because I enjoy it or because I want to punish you." I will do this because the more you bleed here is less you will bleed when on the field of battle." "War is hell, war is unforgiving, and work will test you to the point of insanity." "So here in the rear we will drill and train none stop so that when you get out there everything is second nature."
Ken scans the company for any sort of reaction before finishing his address of the men.
"There are two things that I promise each and everyone of you." "First you will hate me, I will be the bane of your existence and second I will lead you all each and every battle not from the rear shouting orders but from the front by your side in the trenches."
Ken looks at each one of the for a moment.
"Company attention." "Enjoy today gentlemen because tomorrow the fun begins."
"Dismissed."
Ken takes a few minutes to watch the company disperse before turning and heading aback to his office to finish up some last minute paperwork.
