So, Destiny. Bungie recently released a vidoc detailing the setting and a lot of the ideas surrounding their new game, check it out on Bungie.net! Now, I loved Halo but I can't say I'm the biggest fan of FPS's out there. Destiny though, looks amazing. Possibly better than Halo. The concept art they've released is stunning as is the tale they've begun to reveal to us. So, what are people's thoughts and opinions so far? Are you excited for Destiny? Skeptical about it's emphasis on campaign-based multiplayer? Thing it'll just be another Halo?

So I hate to be a party pooper or anything but if we sum up what we know about this game we find ourselves with... Nothing. I'll get excited when we actually know something other than sensationalist media blabber designed to produce massive amounts of baseless hype.

I'd hardly say we have nothing, we don't have much but the universe they've created looks to be good as do the graphics. Other things like gameplay or more intricate plot details aren't going to appear until at least the wintery months I'd wager.

Yes 'nothing' was an overstatement. But not too big of an overstatement. What we've seen so far has been mostly concept art, and it does look cool. Very cool even. But concept art means very little because it is still subject to heavy modifications. Also we really haven't seen all that much of in game engine stuff. A few seconds at the big reveal thing, and a little more at the PS4 presentation. Nothing to really swear by, not yet at least. We don't know how the game will handle, and how smooth it'll be. Additionally the stuff they showed is pre-rendered, which basically means don't trust it. I mean just look at the difference between pre-rendered and in game footage for games like Halo 4 on the Xbox 360 or The Last Story on Wii. The difference between the pre-rendered stuff and the in game footage is staggering. So really I'd take that footage with a pinch of salt. And let's not forget that, as you so rightly pointed out, we've got nothing on gameplay yet, except that it's a shared world shooter, which is, according to Activision, different from an MMOFPS (despite sounding very similar). So what is a shared world shooter? I'm actually curious about this, not even trying to be smart or anything. Do we know what the difference between an MMOFPS and a shared world shooter is? Just check the first segment of this video. This guy makes the same points as me, but better. Now don't get me wrong, I'm interested. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this, but the mere fact that Bungie is working on it already attracted my attention, back when the first pieces of concept art were 'leaked'. But I am not hyped, not yet at least. I won't go out there and pre-order it (it is already available to pre-order, which sounds completely mad to me, who'd pre-order a game they know this little about?). However this doesn't mean I don't think it'll be a good game. I just don't know yet. And I am quite keen to know more about it.

I'm drunk, so I'm going to keep this short. Maybe. I hope. For starters, there's a good bit of information there on the game. All you have to do is look for places like here, for example, where there are repositories and continuing discussion about what we do and don't know about the game. To start, if you can't tell the difference between pre-rendered omgwtfbbq and what's running in-engine, you have bad eyes. From the moment that Halo 4 release trailer was revealed, pretty much everyone knew it was pre-rendered/cgi. If you thought less, you're dumb. Much like the trailer for Deep Down at the Sony conference. You can put a dinky little UI on it all you want. That omgwtfbbq was pre-rendered. In the Destiny reveal, in the few bits of gameplay they show us--which isn't much--it's pretty easy to tell it's not pre-rendered. Jaggies, flat textures, etc. Imperfections--imperfections that typically don't show up in pre-rendered/cgi junk--aren't hard to see. MOVING ALONG We knew from the beginning this would be a cross-gen game. Meaning current-gen versions will probably suffer, since they're nearing the end of their lifecycle. Again, if you didn't know this, blame yourself. MOVING ALONGALONG From what we know of the game so far, it sounds like a more social version of Borderlands. Which is to say, you play the campaign, and players--sometimes random, the horror--will drop in at points as the matchmaking system dictates. There also, apparently pvp modes to play for the game that I'm sure will be elaborated on later. CONCLUDING SORTA KINDA Was the reveal a blowout? No. It was a reveal. As in 'hey, we're taking the curtain off of this game and showing you bits of it'. That's kind of what reveals are. Rarely do you see all of a game from the first moment it's showed off. It's kind of a bad marketing strategy--you want to keep potential players interested to see what all there is to see about the game before it comes out, not blow your load early--who likes someone that blows their load early? Not to mention that E3 is still looming ahead for the summer, when I'm sure we'll see more of the game. Again, reveals followed up by more information at E3 is not at all unusual. And not to mention, the game isn't even done yet. TO CLOSE (AGAIN?) It was a reveal. You'll see more as release approaches. That's kinda how this works. I haven't watched the video, because based on the title, I'm assuming it's some tryhard that tries to be super cynical based on reveal information, not unlike tryhards in politcs that are like BUT EVERYTHING IS TEH BADZ, ,I TRUST NOTHING, LOOK AT HOW CYNICAL I AM, SEE? No, really. Try harder. Anyway, I'm not doing all this cause I'm some defender of the game. I have no idea how it's gonna turn out. Will it be good? Maybe. Will it be bad? Maybe. But to say there's no information and to say excitement for a game from a widely-respected developr is all based on the (lamestream lol Fox) media is, in a word, stupid. THAT'S IT, HAVE A NICE DAY Edit: crap that wasn't short at all I hope I spelled okay
