Like a lot of fans, I enjoyed The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. So I was a bit hyped when I heard that they were remaking The Evil Dead. With it having been released today I rushed out and watched it, and I've got to say. Calling it a remake isn't really doing it justice.
The movie is good on its own, and it does harken back to the original Evil Dead with some scenes and the over all atmosphere of the film. What makes it different, even as the director himself has said, is that he views the film more as happening after the original Evil Dead. We even see evidence of this as behind the cabin is the old yellow car that Ash and his friends drove to the cabin in from the original Evil Dead.
The great thing though is that if you have the patience to sit through the credits you should. It's worth it just to see Bruce Campbell in a quick cameo appearance as Ash. To add to it, there is this bit of information that I found.
This basically means that the Evil Dead franchise is coming back and it is going to be bringing together Ash from the original movies with the new protagonist Mia from the movie just released. I've got to say that Army of Darkness 2 can not get here soon enough just so we can see Bruce Campbell back on screen as Ash again.
Here's to more chainsaw and boomstick action in the future.

At the SXSW premiere event, Alvarez announced that a sequel is in the works. In addition, Sam Raimi confirmed plans to write Evil Dead 4 with his brother; it was later specified that this film would be Army of Darkness 2.
At a WonderCon panel in March 2013, Campbell and Alvarez stated that their ultimate plan was for Alvarez's Evil Dead 2 and Raimi's Army of Darkness 2 to be followed by a seventh film which would merge the narratives of Ash and Mia.
