Name: Johannes Telfair*
*Prefers to go by his last name
Race: Human
Age: 33
Height: 5'10
Weight: 160 lbs.
Appearance:
Johannes' appearance tends to leave a mixed impression on those he meets. If it weren't for his Jedi robes, he'd likely be frequently mistaken for a mercenary. The Jedi Knight stands a few inches shy of six feet and weighs an even 160 pounds. It is readily apparent that he goes to significant lengths to remain in peak physical condition. He is not bulky but his build is well-suited for his medium frame. Powerful forearms point to a focus on lightsaber combat. Johannes' demeanor suggests confidence and is sometimes mistaken for arrogance. A trained eye will note that Johannes holds himself in manner that suggests his martial prowess. The Jedi Knight believes that subtlety can often lead to things becoming overly complicated.
He has a vaguely roguish look about him that doesn't immediately convey trust. It is not unheard of for the Jedi Knight to be considering handsome. His sharp jawline and strong features tend to leave an impression. Johannes' pale skin remains relatively untouched by the effects of the sun. The Jedi's hazel eyes are a particular characteristic to note. His gaze can be stern but it is decidedly straightforward; deception does not come naturally to Johannes. He keeps his raven hair somewhat short but does not waste any effort in trying to keep it in order. Johannes sports a proper beard and does make sure it doesn't grow into anything too wild. The Jedi Knight has a number of scars on his body but sheer luck hasn't left any lasting ones on his face. Aside from that he has no tattoos or other distinguishing marks to speak of.
The Jedi prefers the standard brown robe worn by most within the Order. He finds them to functional for both daily use and within combat. Lately Johannes has been considering utilizing armor but is worried about how much it would affect his mobility. There are the rare occasions where he is forced to travel incognito and thus will choose something suitable for the situation. Johannes' lightsaber rests horizontally near his back as opposed from hanging from his waist. The length of the hilt can make it somewhat of a cumbersome item to carry around. Suffice to say, his attire is similar to that of a typical Jedi.
Personality:
Many people use the word 'abrasive' to describe Johannes, which seems an odd quality to attribute to a Jedi. The Jedi Knight has a certain way of going about things and his methodology can often grate on others. There is no one 'right' school of thought within the Order and Johannes prescribes to his own. Johannes is a good man at his core and believes deeply in both the Republic and the tenets of the Jedi Order. He simply thinks that there are some dated concepts that are better off being ignored. The Jedi Knight tends to take a direct approach to both his assignments and his interaction with other people. More than a few people associate the terms 'subtle' or 'polite' with Jedi, but not with Johannes. The simple fact is that Johannes is damn good at what he does...protecting others.
The Jedi Knight is a bit rough around the edges but no one is perfect. Conversation with Johannes can range from amusing to downright insulting. He tends to be amiable with fellow Jedi but the same cannot be said for those he is charged with protecting. The Jedi's methods while effective, do not always jive with his ward's sensibilities. Johannes is often tasked with guarding politicians and he has little patience for their games. He completely understands the importance of his missions but that doesn't necessarily transfer to respect. The Knight does display a certain degree of deference to higher ranking Jedi but is never afraid to speak his mind. Some of his peers may find this annoying while others will find his unreserved opinion to be refreshing.
Johannes is far more clever than people tend to give him credit for. He possesses an extremely sharp intuition and a good mind for tactics. There is a reason why the Jedi is a go-to choice when it comes to protection details. The Knight's strategic intellect doesn't extend to large battles but is quite effective on a smaller scale. He has a knack for picking out potential ambush sites and other potential dangers. Johannes doesn't have a taste for subtle games and is therefore sometimes considered simple-minded; nothing more than muscle hired to protect a VIP. The Jedi Knight simply prefers to deal with matters in a more direct fashion. He prefers to leave the shadowy games to those more qualified.
One of Johannes' greatest qualities is that he understands his role within the Order and this leaves him without self-doubt. A bit of self-reflection is always a good thing but an overabundance of doubt can be harmful. Johannes' unique and sometimes reckless methods have been a concern for some within the Order. The Knight remains a Jedi because of his deeply innate desire to preserve life. There are lines he will not cross and his faith in the Republic serves to temper any potentially troubling actions. Johannes is likely to always have a watchful eye over his shoulder but can still be trusted to complete whatever task he is assigned. The Jedi Knight can be counted on as a stalwart ally by his fellow Jedi and those who seek to protect the innocent.
Birth place: Ralltiir|Cambrielle
Faction: Jedi
Rank: Knight|Investigator*
*Johannes has an even further specialized role within the rank of Investigators. There are those people within the Republic who are essential to its stability; politicians, scientists, and even soldiers. It isn't all that surprising that people of such importance would become targets for enemies of the Republic. Johannes' skills do not rest in his ability to root out these enemies but rather protect their potential targets. It is the Knight's job to keep these men and women alive while his fellow Investigators deal with the source of the threat. His duties range from being a glorified bodyguard to rescuing wards who have been kidnapped.

Prologue
0-5
Ralltiir houses some of the Republic's most powerful financial institutions. It is no surprise then that many of the Republic's wealthy families settle in the capital of Ralltiir, Cambrielle. The Telfairs have been an influential name on the planet for over three centuries. They were initially a shipping conglomerate but eventually moved away from that particular industry to something just as lucrative. Johannes' great-grandfather decided to shift the family interests towards banking. His grandfather followed suit and truly cemented their reputation within the financial arena. Yet it was Johannes' father who etched the Telfair name into the people's memory. Unfortunately it was not the sort of legacy that his ancestors would have wished for. History often provided many lessons and one of them was that greed did not come without a price.
Johannes' father, Magnus, was a man of both great ability and ambition. Under his reign, the Telfair fortune and influence skyrocketed. His business savvy was well documented but rumors began to spread about illegal activity. Magnus' clout was such that he was nearly untouchable. Any manner of investigation into his activities was tantamount to career suicide. He had worked hard to cultivate his reputation. Magnus donated large sums to charity as well as continuously seeking to further develop the city. He may not have been beloved but there was a saying about poking a dangerous animal. Johannes' father had achieved much and should have been satisfied with that but unfortunately his avarice could not be so easily sated. Magnus wanted more and this eventually forced his competitors into action. They turned to the one institution of authority that was incorruptible, the Jedi Order.
It was only a few days after Johannes' fifth birthday when he encountered a Jedi for the first time. The man had come to the Telfair mansion to talk to Magnus but the boy did not know for what. Like so many other kids, Johannes had heard stories of the Jedi yet was unsure what to make of the man. Eventually the Jedi finished talking with Johannes' father and was about to leave before he spotted the young boy. He looked at the young heir of the Telfair estate with curiosity but said nothing. Johannes was struck with a sense of disappointment but Magnus quickly dispelled any heroic fantasies he had. His father's meeting with the Jedi had apparently not gone over well. Johannes discovered the reason for Magnus' anger only a few months later when his family fell to ruin.
The news of Magnus Telfair's arrest came as a major shock to many within the Republic. Some had thought him above reproach while others simply thought his untouchable. He had been found guilty on a wide-range of charges from racketeering to embezzlement. Johannes' father had stolen a great deal of money and gotten into business with some very shady people. A majority of his fortune had been seized and there did not remain much to the Telfair name. No one could say how much Johannes' mother knew about her husband's activities. The loss of status and wealth saw her spiral into depression and Johannes was essentially alone. It was during this period that the young boy was visited by the same Jedi he had met many months before. The Jedi spoke to Johannes about the Force and how the young boy had the potential to become a Jedi. The boy needed to get away from all the scandal and his mother no longer wanted anything to do with him. He was a constant reminder of everything she once had. Thus a few months before his six birthday, Johannes set off for the Jedi Temple unknowingly traveling with the man who had seen to his father's downfall.

Youngling

Upon arriving at the Jedi Temple, Johannes found himself struck with a sense of complete awe. He had grown up in a major city and was no stranger to impressive architecture yet the home of the Order took him completely by surprise. The boy may have simply been overwhelmed by being in the presence of so many potent Force-users. Cambrielle had been bustling with activity but the Temple felt alive. The trip to Coruscant hadn't been long and so Johannes could only learn so much about the Jedi from the man who had accompanied him. The boy arrived with nothing more than a vague sense about the Jedi Order and the power of the Force. Johannes companion had been reluctant to share too much information in the belief that some things should be learned in a proper order.
Johannes entered the Jedi Order with a slight stigma attached to his name. Jedi were supposed to be understanding but children would be children. Many had never heard the name 'Telfair' before but there had were those who had. News of his father's arrest had been all over the Holonet and those newer Younglings like himself had only just come from the outside world. Johannes was just a boy and had no desire to ostracized. He compensated for the infamy of his name by attempting to be more outgoing. The change in his attitude was met with mixed results. Johannes wished to be more friendly but was more outspoken than anything else. There were those who gravitated to his persona and others who rejected it.
He was a bit of a mixed bag as a student. Johannes had never shown any overt displays of his attunement to the Force before he joined the Order. As a Youngling he only really showed potential in his aptitude to sense through the Force. Johannes could empathize with others using the Force, at least to a certain extent. It was far from anything concrete but definitely something that was noticeable. The Youngling also showed signs of a possessing an above-average intellect. His lack of interest in the more philosophical areas of education led others to believe otherwise. Johannes' teachers had taken note and often remarked how he could be doing so much more. He also showed a decent aptitude for Lightsaber combat though well short of any prodigious talent.
His years as a Youngling were marked with both success and discord. Johannes had moved away from trying to be everyone's friend. He had come to the idea that speaking his mind was being true to the Order. Johannes had the talent but many believed that his personality just wasn't suitable for a Jedi. Luckily there was one Jedi who understood that Johannes had a good heart.; a son who sought to right the wrongs of his father. He may be a bit brash but constantly looked for a way to help others. It was at the age of twelve that Johannes first met the Jedi who would be his master. Daria Sorvos, Jedi Master, was the last person anyone expected to take in Johannes. She was a well-respected member of the Order who was known for her strict adherence to the Code. A woman completed devoted to the Jedi and had never done anything remotely close to getting on the wrong side of the Council. She was well into her fifties yet had never taken a Padawan before. The next ten years under her tutelage would mold Johannes into a Jedi worthy of the Order.
