Name: Mar Dumas
Race: Human
Age: 20
Height and weight: Five Feet and Ten Inches, Two-Hundred and Twenty Pounds.
Appearance: A somewhat unfitting appearance for one hoping to be a Jedi, Mar’s face is often seen as angry. He is not an angry man, but his deep set blue eyes, shadowed by a pronounced brow, and a hard jaw make him look like he’s constantly holding back his anger. He has dark brown hair, a little longer than if it had just been shaven, but marked by a braid on the back of his head, that reaches his shoulders. Since an early age, his face was marked by reddish brown facial hair, that was incredibly difficult to keep in check. He now makes sure to keep it shaven as a sign of humility.
He is of stocky build, being rather muscular but not very tall.

Bio: Mar was born to an impoverished village on Alderaan. They were seen by the people in the nearby city as Tinkerers, and were regarded mostly with contempt. Mar’s family was among the poorest in the village, and he was the youngest of five children. His father was a tailor, an easy job when all of his customers only needed rags resized. His mother was a cobbler, and as one would expect, had few customers.
Mar has very few memories of his younger age. He was very playful, and didn’t really understand the struggle of those around him. He would go hungry, but was tough enough to complain little. He had no education, and were it not for the only true memory he had, he’d have begun an apprenticeship with one of the local artisans, and had a simple sad life. Fate, however had a different idea.
At the age of four he was playing in the woods with some of the other young children. They were playing a game they called war, and Mar was hiding from three older boys playing Jedis on the other team, when a hand clutched his right shoulder. He was spun around, and face to face with a tall, human man, in Republican armor. The man was clutching a bandage at his side with the arm that wasn’t gripping the boy. The bandage was bloody, and as Mar stared at it, his gaze drifted down, to the man’s hip, and saw a real life Lightsaber!
The man introduced himself in a calm voice as Lucas Harrier, a Jedi Padawan, and asked Mar if he could take him to a safe place with no one seeing him. Mar, excited to meet a Jedi happily took him to his parents, and waited right next to the man as his mother applied medicine to his wound. Lucas explained that he and his master had been sent to Alderaan to look into the existence of a Dark Jedi.
When asked what happened to his master, Lucas grew quiet, and did not speak for ten minutes. When Mar’s mother had finished healing him, Lucas meditated in silence for three hours, watched closely by Mar. When Lucas finally opened his eyes, he asked to speak to Mar’s parents alone.
He explained to them that there was a reason he had gone to Mar instead of the other children in the woods. Mar had a far above average count of Midichlorians, and that the boy would be safest if he was taken away to be trained in the ways of the force. His parents were not opposed to this, seeing it as an opportunity for their son, and a chance for one less mouth to feed.
Mar himself was excited, as Lucas and he traveled to Aldera, to find a transport to Coruscant. Lucas had given the small amount of credits he had to Mar’s family, and was forced to reveal his identity as a Jedi in order to gain passage on a ship. Mar saw the whole trip as an adventure, asking countless questions, especially ones about the force and Lightsabers. Lucas was very open about the questions, and formed a powerful bond with the youngling.
When Lucas came before the council to discuss his mission, he brought Mar with him. He discussed the demise of his master, a Twi’lek named Orysa Takasa, at the hands of a Dark Jedi who had fled to Alderaan. He struck down the Dark Jedi, which the council saw as a necessary evil. He then told them of Mar’s high Midichlorian count, and Mar was soon admitted to the temple as a youngling.
In his early years as a youngling, Mar did not stand out in any one area. He had difficulty understanding the force, and was clumsy when practicing lightsaber forms. As he reached the age of ten, many of the elders believed he would not go farther than the corps, but something awoke in him. He began to use the force better than some of the other younglings, he was still far from the best at the academy, but he was visibly competent. His true skill developed in his saber skills.
He practiced every night, with a stick, until he could beat the best of the other younglings on his best day. It was this skill that Lucas Harrier was particularly happy to see, when he returned to check on the boy occasionally. When Mar turned thirteen, he was made the first Padawan of the now Jedi Knight Lucas. The pair embarked mainly on peaceful missions, focusing mainly on negotiations, and Mar was given little chance to cultivate either ability, only sparring with Lucas, and practicing his force abilities on small things, lifting chairs, manipulating minds of animals.
His proudest accomplishment is helping to quell a rebellion on Caarimon, by negotiating between two rival groups of wealthy Caarite. While dangerous, Lucas allowed him to handle negotiations by himself, and was very pleased that the then eighteen year old Padawan was able to persuade the groups to seek peace without using any form of force suggestion.
After a few more simple tasks, Mar and his master were sent to investigate rumors of an insurgent group on Yavin 4. Upon investigation, the two found a small base, leading underground. While exploring, Lucas and Mar both felt a sudden disturbance in the force, and were quickly surrounded by a mass of Humans. Somehow, each of them possessed a Vibroblade.
The two fought the men off capably, but Mar stumbled after a few minutes. Lucas took a position over him, but against so many opponents, he was stabbed through the chest, and fell. Mar shouted, “No”, and without thinking, jumped to his feet, and force pushed all of the men against the walls of the base. Grabbing his master, he sprinted out of the base, and buried him in the forest near the city they’d landed in.
That night, he returned to the base, and in his rage, clouded the minds of any guard he drew near, and slowly killed the group, realizing it was only thirty. When he was done, he wept, seeing that he had given into his fear and anger, getting dangerously close to the dark side, and abandoning the principles of his master and order.
The young Jedi meditated for a full day, and only then returned to Coruscant. He was debriefed, and told that he would wait at the temple until he was given a new master.

“I don’t understand why we’re here, master.” Mar turned to Lucas, his master. Lucas chuckled, ”That seems to be a common trait for you my young Padawan. Tell me, what we were instructed to do?”
Mar looked out the window at the sand dunes that were so numerous here on Tatooine. The pair were waiting in the palace of the crime lord Zax, a Hutt who ran a large section of the slave trade on the desert planet. It was their third day of riding to this palace, and sitting in the room, only to be told at sundown that Zax was busy, and they would be seen tomorrow.
”We were told to speak with Zax about setting the slaves under him free.” Lucas smiled at his apprentice and said, “That’s right young one, and that is exactly why we are here.” Mar stood up, and angrily said, “You know what I meant Master Lucas. Why are we subjecting ourselves to be treated as if we don’t mean anything, and by a common criminal mo less!” “Patience young one. You must not allow yourself to be made angry. Anger leads to Hate, Hate lea-” Mar interrupted his Master, ”Leads to suffering, I know, I know, but people are suffering because we are not taking action! We are beings in this world, and we both were born with emotion, we should be able to use anger for good purposes without it being evil! We should go in-”
It was the Masters turn to interrupt the student now, he stood, and harshly said, “Don’t ever utter anything like that again, do you hear me? Many young boys like you have given in to the dark side because they thought just the same as you. Anger should never be seen as a positive! What you see as strength will only make you weak! Turn your head, even for a second from the Light Side of the force, and it will be me that they send to stop you. Is that want you want! Me to be the one to kill you! Do you know what that would do to me?”
Mar turned away from his Master, and thought for a moment. “I’m sorry Master, I will try to be more patient. I think I’ll meditate to calm down.” Mar went to sit in the sunlight coming through the window. He crossed his legs, and closed his eyes. He slowly emptied his mind, and tried to keep his thoughts only on the void.
For an unknown time, it worked, Mar was unaware of anything, and sat only in stasis, hearing nothing, thinking nothing. Then out of the blue, he imagined a young girl in shackles, and the void was filled with flames. Mar fought to oppress this anger, and soon found himself again in the void for an unmarked amount of time.
After what could have been a day or a minute, a new image appeared in the void. It was a leaf, attached to a branch above a lake after a rainstorm. The raindrops left on the branch all fell towards this single leaf, and a sound echoed in Mar’s mind, as each drop sent a ripple in the water below. After a minute or so of this, Mar was taken out of the void, by Lucas’ hand on his right shoulder, and Mar heard footsteps, walking with the same rhythm as the noise of the raindrops.
Both Jedi were standing at attention when a Male Twi’lek entered the room and said, “Lord Zax cannot see you today, I am afraid he is too busy with matters of state. I am sure that if you are coming back tomorrow he see you.” The Twi’lek had not had much experience speaking the language of humans. Lucas turned to his apprentice.
“What do you have to say to that Padawan?” Lucas smiled, and after a moment of thought, Mar said, “We thank Lord Zax for allowing us to wait in his beautiful palace, and hope his business went well. If it is opportune, we will meet with him tomorrow, though we know it is busy being so powerful.” As the Jedi bowed, Lucas smiled, then put his arm around the Padawan as they turned to return to their Skiff.
