Official Weapon Name: Jaidan's Collapsible Vibrostaff
Faction/Affiliation: Republic/Jedi Order
Classification: Batons/Quarterstaff/Spear
Stock/Custom Custom
Manufacturer: Haskaton Shatani & Apprentices
Dimensions:
Length:: 2 individual rods, .3 meters each. Assembled: .6 m Full extension: 1.85 m
Weapon weight: 2.73 kg
Composition: 70% Duranium, 28% Durasteel, 2% Cortosis Ore
Other: Dual kinetic generators are stored in the core portion of the weapon, designed to work in concert. The weapon can deploy in stages, depending on its current configuration. Either half of the weapon can be doubled in length and used, in a pinch, as a sort of baton, but full extension is achieved only when both halves of the base are locked in place. Each end of the fully extended staff also houses a sharp, retractable spear point.
Description: This weapon was crafted on Eshan, in the forge of Clan Shatani's greatest living weaponsmith, specifically for its Jedi owner, and to address one specific need. As the title of weaponmaster implies, Jaidan had spent years of diligent training, ensuring that he could pick up and use any number of weapons effectively in a pinch, but with the exception of a blaster pistol he'd acquired, this was mostly theoretical. He had his hands, feet, and the Force backing both if he ever encountered any situation where a lightsaber was unsuitable. It was only the impending prospect of a renewed Mandalorian crusade that led him to reconsider this stance. Against a horde of warriors covered head to toe in lightsaber proof metal, he'd need a specialized weapon, an so he returned to his homeworld, one with a history of producing warriors and smiths who knew how to hurt a Mandalorian.
He was gladdened to find his kinsman not simply willing, but honored to produce a weapon for family, never mind a Jedi Knight. Haskaton grew only more amenable when he learned what the weapon might be used for, but even so, Jaidan came with what seemed to him a fairly stringent set of requirements. Obviously, the weapon would need considerable punch, yet it would still need to be under-stated. He was still a Jedi, after all, and that came with some requirements of its own. It would not be suitable for him to look like he was spoiling for a fight in his day to day dealings. More importantly, it needed to be fairly portable; the restriction against personal belongings meant he couldn't simply travel with a storage locker wherever he went. And last of all, the Jedi's oldest enemy had to be kept in mind; if engaged by a Dark Jedi, the weapon had to stand up to a lightsaber, at least long enough for him to withdraw and change weapons.
The result was a surprise, but a pleasant one. Rather than one weapon, he was presented with two, a set of seemingly identical metallic rods, each capable of doubling in length and striking with respectable oomph when activated. Then, however, Haskaton demonstrated how, when fastened together at the ends into a single weapon, the metal shaft would grow slightly taller than its wielder, and benefit from both generators working together with each strike. Granted, this modular design made the weapon a little more cumbersome to carry, and a little slower to deploy, but unless the Mandalorian in question was in a tank, Jaidan was promised the warrior on the receiving end would feel a strike from this weapon. The weapon was hefty, but the weight was well distributed, and easy enough to handle. And of course, the cortosis weave technique had originated on Eshan; a lightsaber would be no issue, only its user.
In parting, Jaidan pledged himself to the agreed upon payment. Honor the weapon's creator by achieving the same level of mastery with it that he could boast with the signature Jedi weapon. And while that project is very much a work in development, he's sadly had no shortage of opportunity to practice of late.
