Orlaan Novas
Knight of the Jedi Order
Knight of the Jedi Order
Name: Orlaan Novas
Race: Human
Age: 26
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 143 lbs
Appearance:
Orlaan has brown medium-length cropped hair, brown eyes with a youthful, but tired-looking face. He is not imposingly tall, or noticeably short, he puts his 'average' features to use, finding it easy to blend into a crowd, or disappear into one. His set of robes are an off-white colour that have seem to have seen better days, just above his waist, he wears a thin utility belt that he only really uses to keep his lightsaber attached to. Adorned over the top of his Jedi robes, is an black hooded cloak, which could be considered a trademark of his, unlike his worn robes, he tries to keep it in the best condition he can, going along with his cloak, he also wears a pair of black boots. Despite not being particularly built muscle wise, Orlaan possesses an athletic and toned frame.
Personality: An adherent of the Living Force, Orlaan, like many others, focuses on 'living in the moment' and concentrating on his sensitivity to other human beings, because of this he has a great understanding of other people, meaning he is quite the apt diplomat, he is also very mindful of his actions, knowing the consequences and the paths he can be led down, should he act irrationally, or without thought.
He has a natural talent for hiding his emotions and also recognizing emotional changes in others, despite that natural talent for secrecy, to those he is close to, he is quite open when it comes to his feelings, including his opinions. Orlaan has a rebellious side to him, which often leads to him straying from mission objectives, if only briefly to help someone he feels is in need. However, even with his rebellious streak, he believes in the Jedi Order and its ideals wholeheartedly, having always felt that it was his true calling.
Orlaan believes in non-violent resolutions, but he is in no way combat shy. He is an extremely humble and modest person, his voice rarely ever rising above a normal tone. Since he has not yet trained a Padawan, therefore having someone to watch over, this is perhaps the reason he still retains a youthful nature, often presented through a positive out-look in a particular bleak situation, whilst trying to bolster the morale of those around him.
A dislike of Orlaan's is, piloting, although he admittedly is a decent pilot, he spends most of his time complaining during the act and much prefers to be the passenger, rather than to be in the driving seat himself. This could be used as a metaphor for his reluctance to take on a Padawan, he privately fears that he will not do a good job in tutoring a young mind, he greatly fears the notion of his own Apprentice, falling to the dark side.

Biography:
Orlaan was born in CoCo town, also known as CoCo district, his parents, Jhon and Mari Novas, were both curators who worked at the Galactic Museum. He spent alot of his time with his parents at the museum, who were both eager for their son to learn. His parents believed in him a great deal, seeing great potential in him, they wanted something more for him than a simple life on Coruscant, although they had no clue how far his potential would take him exactly. Aged six, Orlaan came into contact with a human Jedi Consular known as Val Gordo, Gordo was on a diplomatic mission to Coruscant, but had found time out of his mission to visit the Galactic Museum, the Jedi took an instant shine to Orlaan, who often accompanied one of his parents when they gave tours.
The Jedi Knight returned to the museum numerous times during his mission, determined to find the reasoning as to why he was so intrigued by the young boy. Believing he knew the answer, Val asked the parents of Orlaan if they would consent to a midi-chlorian test, they did indeed consent and it was discovered that Orlaan was indeed, Force sensitive as the Jedi had suspected. His parents also consented for Orlaan to be taking to the Jedi Temple on Tython to receive training, realizing that by doing so, they could help Orlaan achieve the potential they always knew he had. Although he was upset to leave his parents, Orlaan was very much looking forward to his new life as a Jedi Youngling.
Orlaan enjoyed his time as a Youngling, he never really excelled, nor did he lack behind, he was a very average student. It could be described as the most uneventful period of his time with the Order, for the next five years, he progressed steadily until aged 11, when it was nearing the cut-off point for when he could be chosen as a Padawan. Due to the approaching deadline, Orlaan tripled his efforts in all areas of study, he quickly surpassed his previous levels, especially when it came to combat and understanding the Force. Aged 12, after solidifying his reputation as a promising new Jedi, he was taken under the tutelage of human Jedi Master, Vayne Parexus, a Jedi who had a reputation for rebellion, Vayne saw a small glimpse of himself in Orlaan, which was why he decided to take him on as his Padawan.
The years progressed quickly after that, Orlaan learnt the ways of the Living Force from Vayne, he was taught to 'live in the moment' and rely on his instincts, training which become big aspects of his own personality, especially as he grew older. Orlaan flourished under Vayne's tutelage, he gained a reputation as a formidable Lightsaber combatant in the Order, at the time he made use of a blue double-edged Lightsaber, a distinct show-off of his abilities in Lightsaber combat.
Aged 17, Orlaan and his Master were sent to the planet Corellia, to rescue and extract the daughter of one of a member of the Correllian council. The two entered the Selonian tunnels, a serious of caverns and tunnels which ran under Coronet city, informed of a tracker that was hidden inside the daughters necklace, it did not take them long to locate the girl, the captors provided little resistance and went down, barely without a fight, something which disturbed Master Vayne, Orlaan gave it little thought, chalking it up to fear on the captors parts. Exiting the tunnels, they all boarded a transport vessel which had been sent to pick them up, should their mission have been a success, which it seemed to have been.
As they rose into the air, preparing to leave the area, members of the group who had kidnapped the girl made themselves known from several ambush points in nearby buildings, they were fired on immediately with heavy assault weapons. The ship managed to escape the assault, but not before being too badly damaged to stay in the air, the ship crash-landed in Treasure Ship Row, moments before impact, Master Vayne was able to cast a Force Barrier over his Padawan and also the politicians daughter, the resulting crash destroyed a cantina where the ship hit and also damaged several nearby building. Despite the Force Barrier, Orlaan was left unconscious by the impact, he was not brought out of consciousness until he was back at the Tython Temple, he spent several days after recuperating from his injuries before being brought before the Jedi Council to briefed on the events resulting from the mission. Master Vayne has been killed immediately upon impact, whereas the politicians daughter had survived, albeit badly injured.
Distraught by the death of his Master, which he believed to be his fault, Orlaan requested of the council that he be allowed to enter a self-imposed exile, until he felt he was able to return. Although reluctant at first, the council eventually saw how traumatized Orlaan was by the event and allowed him to leave the Order in exile, with the option to return, if he ever would. During his self-imposed exile, Orlaan did not return home to Coruscant, to his parents, instead he lived as a nomad, moving from planet to planet, never staying in one place for to long. Through his journey, he matured and healed, he took on the teachings of the Living Force more than ever, learning to become attuned to all the living things that surrounded him, he learned to focus on the present, instead of fixating on the past and to be wary of the future, instead of to try predict it.
Aged 23, six years after his self-imposed exile, Orlaan returned to the Order on Tython. Welcomed back by the council, he threw himself into the study of the Force, the Galaxy and the Ways of the Jedi. In that time, he constructed a new, green-bladed Lightsaber to represent his new ideals and philosophy, his old Lightsaber having been destroyed when the ship went down over Coronet City. Eventually, when he felt he was ready, he underwent the Knight trials, with his new-found lease of life, Orlaan passed with flying colours and became the newest Knight among the Jedi ranks. At 25 years old, despite his relative youth, Orlaan started teaching Younglings and Padawans and the Temple, he became a respected teacher in the Order, mainly teaching about the nature of the Force, along with this, he also submitted several holocrons to the Jedi Archives, detailing the out-line of the Living Force and its various aspects.
Now aged 26, Orlaan continues to try help out the Younglings and Padawans wherever he can, although now he has progressed to taking part in more off-world missions, believing now that he can be of use on other planets, to help bring peace and stability to the Galaxy.

Orlaan walked silently through the quiet alley, he glanced from side to side, then forward to the dead-end he seemed to have walked into. He had been tracking a Sith Assassin through the streets, mainly in the hope that the Assassin would get the idea and leave, after narrowly averting an attempt on the life of a Republic official, even though he had lost sight of the Sith, he could feel the oscillations of Force energy and that was the trail he followed, unfortunately it seemed to have led him to this dead-end, behind him he heard exactly what he had expected to hear, the faint tap of footsteps as if something had just landed from above, attempting to be as quiet as it possibly could.
Turning around, he was faced with the sight of the Sith Assassin, adorned in black from head to toe, even his face was not visible from within the depths of his hood, something which the Assassin had obviously intended. The thing that stood out the most, was the silver Lightsaber hilt which was grasped in the Sith's left hand, Orlaan did not remove his Lightsaber in response, instead he simply moved his cloak so that it no longer blocked the front of his body, allowing himself more room to maneuver.
"It seems we are at an impasse." Orlaan spoke with a calm tone, not taking his eyes off the Sith.
"No impasse Jedi, you will die." The Sith replied, equally as calm. From the Lightsaber hilt, extended a red blade and the Sith spun forward, swinging his Lightsaber at the body of the Jedi Knight.
In response to the Assassin's movement, Orlaan whipped his Lightsaber from his belt and ignited the green blade outward, he immediately parried the fast-approaching blur of crimson, stepping back from the Sith afterward. Coming together, their sabers locked as one of them attempted to gain the upper hand, for the briefest of moments, Orlaan saw into the eyes of the Assassin, he saw only hatred looking back at him and that was his weakness, his raw emotion.
As the Sith pushed down against him, Orlaan used all the strength he could muster to push the Assassin's Lightsaber to the left, feeling the Sith trying to push back, Orlaan distinguished his blade and took several quick-steps to the left, the shift in momentum caused the Sith to stumble the way he was trying to push, momentarily knocking himself off balance. Taking the opportunity, Orlaan kicked straight into the Assassin's torso, causing him to fall back several steps against the wall. Realizing that he had lost his edge, the adversary took several small metallic spheres from his object and hurled them at the ground, smoke rose out of them as soon as they hit against the floor. Expecting some kind of retaliation, Orlaan stood ready, waiting, instead the smoke simply cleared and all it revealed was a once more empty alley, aside from Orlaan.
"Perhaps another time." Orlaan retorted quietly to the empty space around him.
