Despite their newness, the walls of the Sith Academy at Korriban still felt strangely hallowed. Ancient, somehow. Deserving of solemn recognition. Perhaps it was the lighting, or the towering ceilings that seemed to press down, or the impressions of unusual languages scrawled into the walls. Perhaps it was only the wary recognition of anger and fear bleeding through from so many dark side users gathered in one place.
Or maybe still it was because of the expression currently being warn by one of the newest initiates as she stared down her enemy from across the field of battle. Her pale irises glittered in the dim glow from the nearest lightsource, eyes narrowed, brows furrowed, jaw set. Her knuckles grew even whiter as her hands tightened into fists. She would not lose. She had lost so many battles since being brought to the Sith academy. She was weary of defeat, and she would not, refused to, be beaten by an ugly-faced creature like the one across from her.
But then the holo monster moved across the dejarik table, and lost was exactly what she did do.
She slammed her fist down upon the dejarik table, a string of curses in her native tongue coloring the 'hallowed' academy walls. Predictably, her fist crashed ineffectively through the intangible hologram, so she kicked the stand instead, bounced back when that hurt, and then hissed. Idiotic pastime! Why would anyone -- ? What skills could it possibly -- ? Curse the bedamned creature that invented dejarik!!
She huffed a loud exhale, remembering herself belatedly. Hmph. She crossed her arms over her chest in a huff, deliberately slowing her breathing and swallowing down the shame of her most ungracious defeat. The computerized sound of a synthetic voice then greeted her pleasantly.
"Your last piece has been destroyed by the computer. Would you like to try the tutorial again?"
She gave an indignant snort. As if she would waste another moment on such an infantile amusement. Much better things to spend her time and effort upon. In an academy for goodness' sake. She turned on heel, determined to find something else to do more worthy of her time. Utter foolishness.
Half a moment later, quick footsteps pattered back to the dejarik table, silver eyes reflected the blue light of the holomonsters, and the atmosphere of hushed concentration resumed.
Just one more try...
