New Rules?

Just something I've wanted to ask now for a little bit.

Do we suddenly have new unwritten rules on SWU? Things that are not posted anywhere, especially in the Rules thread, but apparently are now being enforced?

For example...

I saw awhile back that a member was told to change his character's name because it was not Star Wars-y enough.


And more recently, while images are optional, that anime pictures for characters are now a no-go.


So, will these be added to the Rules, or will these and other rules remain unwritten, so that no one has any idea about them except when they're told on a case-by-case basis?



All I have to say is, thank goodness for the grandfather clause, 'cause otherwise a good chunk of the characters on this site would be breaking these two "rules" I just pointed out.

Hey Mara, we actually we're just discussing this in a staff chat and we've all agreed that perhaps those comments in those apps were a little unfounded.

Hell, I have a character named Moonfire who was raised by space hippies and I use anime-styled pictures for her all the time.

I think it was a personal preference of some staff members that bled out into the actual reviewing process. We spoken and come to a concensus on this;

As long as the character isn't a complete rip-off of an existing character or over the top ridiculous, it doesn't matter.

For example; say I made a character named... Maruto. And used a picture of the famous Naruto. And gave him the same life mission as Naruto.

This goes both ways. I have in past refused to accept a character based off of Doctor Who, especially since I was rather lenient with that same person in accepting a 'Sherlock' style character played by Benedict Cumberbatch. There has to be standards.

I hope this cleared somethings up.

TL:DR; Yes you can have anime pictures and if you have a good reason why your name isn't super star warsy than share it. We're just trying to keep some realism.
