The otherwise silent halls of the Jedi Temple came to life with the footsteps and shouts of the many Jedi Younglings that were still struggling to complete their task. After many failed attempts, they finally realized that organization was key to their success. Of course, each of them would prefer to have the glory of passing by themselves, but teamwork had become less of an option and more of a necessity as time went by. A Jedi had to know how to work with other people, both leading and following when needed, after all, if you preach unity, you must also practice it, or at least that’s what Kaelan taught them. The young Jedi Knight had already been given a Padawan of his own (an idea that terrified him) which meant his duties as the caretaker of this Youngling Clan would end soon enough. Even if each of the children had been special in their own way, Kael was well trained enough to keep strong bonds from appearing, at least in that case anyway. However, the same could not be said for his young students. They would have a hard time letting go of their fun teacher, but that’s just one of the many tests that awaited them.
Young Kael had already proven to be a good teacher, even if his methods were…slightly different. Ever since becoming a Jedi Knight, his time had been divided into assignments given by the Council, and looking over a Youngling Clan that was smaller than usual. The one composed of children whose place could not be foreseen by the Instructors. Even if his kind smile and happy demeanor said otherwise, Kael didn’t always take the warm and calm approach. He made them give all they could give, but still managed to make them look at him with friendly eyes, much like his own Master had done. The teaching were mostly the same as the other Clans, since the Council wouldn’t approve of major changes, but, his class did stand out a bit. For example, he taught them how to dance, like Kha’si taught him, and how her Master taught her (and so on). Another of the strange assignment the Clan had been given by its instructor was the one they were doing at this very moment. Chasing a Pittin.
One of Kaelan’s latest missions had taken him to a small moon on the Outer Rim, where dozens of illegal hunters of exotic animals were holding a special competition, to show off their prizes. He carefully sneaked in, thanks to the help of an…acquaintance that may or may not owe the Jedi a few favors. Anyway, she knows how to handle that sort of crowd, so Kael didn’t have much trouble with that part of the mission. You can imagine what happened next, lightsaber, slashing, blasters, “pew pew”, kicking ass. The usual. The hunters were put behind bars, and the animals were returned to their rightful place, except for one little critter. A rare white Pittin. Normally, one of these would have been sent to Alderaan as soon as possible, but as it turns out, there’s a chance that it could be infected with a disease that makes other Pittin’s fur fall right off. Not his own though, he’s just the messenger. So, to avoid that sort of situation, the Jedi held onto it, at least until the Alderaanian medical crew got the Coruscant.
Kaelan figured that as long as they had “Flash” (how the students named it) around, he might as well use him for the Youngling’s training, after all, catching a cat is difficult, and a good way to improve your agility and improvisation skills. Ever tried it? In any case, to make the story shorter, one of the students opened the door by mistake after Kaelan had been summoned by the Council, and, of course, “Flash” got away. And so, here they were, trying to find the Pittin before it caused any more trouble (and before their teacher found out)
The Younglings split up into groups, trying to lead it to a trap and covering all of its possible escape points. It was a well thought-out plan, if you take their lack of experience into account. But the animal was much smarter than one might think, and managed not only to evade their trap, but also made them capture one of their own because of the confusion. The small Rodian student yelled until they let him out of the improvised net. It was up to Kaelan now.
