kartanine vi la vie.
Name: Kartanine Tatara Vi La Vie
Race: Human/Hapan
Age: 35
Birthplace: Hapes // Ta'a Chume'Dan
Allegiance: Republic
Status: Naval Officer
Rank: Admiral
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 145lbs
Appearance:
Seductive is definitely a good word to describe Karta's overall appearance, having designed herself to induce attraction and appeal to everyone around her. Everything to do with how she looks is important to her, wearing clothes that are more stylish and colorful, which in turn doesn't lend itself well to the military life. Then again, who needs uniform when you have style, right? Due to her rather tall stature for a female, she is very noticeable in a crowd, much to her evident enjoyment, being the centre of attention, though that could be linked to her various other 'attributes' also. Her manner of speaking is incredibly alluring and suggestive, a rather rich tone and drawn out syllables in addition to her uh... 'feisty' nature.
Her features very hold an allusive charm to them, with perfectly smooth pale skin on a slender and curvaceous build with incredibly large breasts, the subject of many jealousies and admiration. Her eyes are colored a deep sea blue with a bright twinkle in it's depths, the twinkle of a youthful feeling, joy. Her usual expression is fixed into one of passive bliss, ignorant of all the troubles around her, in her own little peaceful world, which somehow adds to her beauty it seems. Her hair is a measure of her vain pride, being smooth silk to the touch and colored with the illustrious beauty of the sun, bright blonde locks flowing like a golden waterfall. Her hair style has changed numerous times during her many years, starting during her early years on Hapes, at which time it was styled in a rather short bob framed around her face loosely.
Clothing is a bit of a contentious issue for Karta, mainly because she dislikes the standard-issue Republic uniform that is supposed to be worn whilst on duty. And although she does on occasion wear it (usually when she knows she's going to meet another Admiral or during review periods), most of her time is spent in very loose casual clothing or sometimes even in a dressing gown. Needless to say Kitty-Bear certainly isn't happy about such misconduct but she has learned to live with it, as have most of the rest of the crew. Of course she also has a wide selection of formal gowns and such for parties, having used a lot of those to climb her way to the top very quickly.
Personality:
Well well well, what can we say about Karta? A very... interesting person to say the least. Karta tends to give off a great charm, most likely due to her stunning looks and 'personality' overall. She enjoys attracting attention to herself, however, a part of her personality that is very often overlooked is her determination to succeed in whatever task or goal she gives herself, going to extreme lengths to do so. She is known to stop at nothing to get what she wants, though does respect that she has to put herself on the line for others as well.
It is obvious that Karta is very much a slacker when it comes to her work, often leaving reports and document signings to her right-hand woman Kitty-Bear or 'forgetting' to do them while going out drinking with her many friends. Actions very unbecoming of an Admiral, yes, but you have to understand that Karta is very much respected on her ship and a capable leader when push comes to shove. She is deserving of her position despite her obvious shortcomings and questionable methods of attaining said position.
Her modesty is by and large non-existent, to the point where she will openly complain about her large chest and associated back problems. It is not unusual for her to use her 'feminine charms' to try and get what she wants and is not above petty arguments in order to draw attention. Her disposition is usually very peppy and happy, which is often good for morale but simultaneously comes off as if she doesn't take her job very seriously.

Biography:
0 - 11
Born the daughter of an upper-class Hapan woman and a young Naval Officer during his first voyage into the Hapes Cluster, Karta grew up mostly without her father, only really talking to him via long-distance calls and letters. To Karta, her mother was everything, from the moment she could form conscious thought. It was a connection of both friendship and parenthood, a bond that naturally would have stood the test of time.
Even as a small girl, Karta displayed equal parts laziness and extraordinary intelligence, able to speak both Basic and her native Hapan tongue fluently and perform calculations that even her mother struggled with. On the other hand, her mother struggled to get Karta to focus on one task at a time, trying to motivate her with rewards and punishments aplenty. But nothing seemed to work. Karta was a slow worker if ever there was one.
But then, as Karta progressed into her 10th year, her mother suddenly grew very sick and was bedridden for several months. The young girl had to learn how to take care of herself, almost burning down the house quite a number of times attempting to cook. But her mother's condition got worse and the doctors that tended to her began to look for alternate arrangements for Karta's supervision. She of course had to stay with her father, who was now a Vice Admiral in charge of the stationary fleet at Telos which was most often reserved for wartime maneuvers only, whilst simultaneously passing on records of every cargo entering and exiting the planet through official means, presenting that information to the SIS. His help was invaluable and his pay-grade certainly reflected that.11 - 16
Sadly her mother passed away, leaving Karta an emotional wreck for many months afterwards, until even her hard-ass of a father was worried. In order to distract her from her pain, he put her through intense tutelage to eventually follow in his footsteps as a Naval Officer. Being obviously very young, Karta resisted the idea wholeheartedly and didn't enjoy her father's company in the slightest, even resorting to running away from home at one point.
But after a while she felt as if she had no choice but to submit to her father's training, doing her best to focus with her distracted mind. Until the floodgates opened and her talent and intelligence flowed forth. In the many tests her father had her take, Karta excelled, becoming what amounted to a model student.
Until she met Jusan. Her first boyfriend. A very rough boy with a very loose set of morals, Karta began getting into all sorts of trouble. Drinking, fighting, underage sexual conduct, the works. Naturally her father was angry, but his job distracted him just enough to let Karta get away with pretty much anything she wanted. Karta and Jusan were virtually inseparable, loving each other's company immensely. However, after a particularly bad fight, the boy was imprisoned with a term of over 15 years, leaving Karta alone again.
For a time she was determined to stay loyal to him. To continue visiting him and then live the life they once had when he was released. But instead, after coercion from her father, she signed up to the Naval Training Academy on Telos.17 - 23
She never did quite forget her wild days with Jusan, continuing a lot of those activities with her other friends, though doing it on a much smaller scale. It was there that she began to develop her talent for getting what she wanted. Wrapping people around her little finger using whatever methods she required. Her words, her money, her body, whatever it took.
And yet, as she progressed throughout her education, it was clear she didn't need to use such unsavory tactics to pass exams. Her intelligence shone through again, denoting an efficient brain beneath layers and layers of misguided judgement. She was a typical wild student, it seemed. Though unlike all of the rest of the wild students, she didn't necessarily have to study all that hard.
Karta never did really grasp the physical aspects of the Navy all that well. The repairs, the self-defense, weapon-use. As compared to her classmates she was serviceable but did not excel. Rather she was clearly better at tactical engagements and planning, displaying a virtually photographic memory for a ship's statistics and maneuverability. Not only this, but after signing up on a whim for a medical course she was found to be an exemplary student there as well, leading to her eventual promotion and expected career path.
As such she graduated with honors and was assigned to the TV-8 Support Corvette 'Titanica' as an Assistant Medical Officer and maintenance inspector. During her initial deployment she was determined to display to her superiors that she was right for the job, despite her lethargic attitude towards work. As such she performed admirably and was promoted incredibly quickly. Much too quickly according to some.24 - 35
But the promotions certainly didn't stop there. Karta's knack for getting everything she wanted by any means necessary shone through in spades, rising through the ranks on the 'Titanica' until she was Chief Medical Officer and personal adviser to the Captain. There, she was influence. She had real power.
It was clear the effect she had on the Captain. A beautiful young woman and a middle aged man who clearly missed his wife back home dearly. And she was not the only one she clearly had an affect on. She was invited to many parties by politicians, Navy higher-ups, even men and women from other divisions.
During her time there, the 'Titanica' was boarded by pirates whilst patrolling the Outer Rim. Karta, who had hidden in the cargo bay out of range of the ship's cameras in order to take her mid-afternoon nap, had avoided capture, giving her the task of resisting on her own. Needless to say, considering Karta wasn't exactly a born and bred soldier, she wasn't going to be able to run in there guns blazing like some kind of Commando. Rather, she had to be smart and find a way to drive the Pirates off the ship and save her crew-mates.
An opportunity arose in the form of a faulty ventilation shaft, that seemed to have a breach next to the thermal vents in the hyperdrive, pouring a steady stream of nitrogen gas into the main corridor to the bridge. Unfortunately, due to the other non-faulty ventilation systems in that same room, the stream of nitrogen wasn't affecting the pirates standing guard. Quickly Karta took action, noticing one of the younger pirates passing by her and managing to lure him to her hiding spot. She incapacitated him with a piece of metal rebar, before stripping him and donning his clothes, making her way towards the Engineering Bay.
When there, she waited until no one was looking before shutting off the ventilation system to both the Bridge and the Corridor, leaving the faulty vent open. Both rooms quickly flooded with nitrogen gas, pushing all of the oxygen to the top of the room and slowly suffocating anyone caught inside, including those taking hostage. She realized the danger this put the hostages in, but she waited precisely 28 seconds, as her medical training had taught her, until most of the people in the Bridge had fallen unconscious, before reactivating the ventilation system and dashing back towards the Bridge. By this time the rest of the pirates were banging on the locked door, desperately trying to get into the main corridor and save their crew, easily being gunned in the back by Karta and her trusty sidearm.
She forced open the door using a cobbled together security spike and proceeded to awaken all of her companions, helping them tie up the rest of the pirates. The Captain could be woken for a significant amount of time however, most likely due to a heart complication, leaving the command of the ship unofficially up to Karta, mainly because the crew now trusted her more than any other person on the ship. She put her officer training to good use, separating her ship from the pirates and hammering them with torpedo and turbolaser fire until the hyperdrive could be set, allowing them to escape to nearby Ord Mantell for repairs and medical facilities. For her heroism Karta earned herself a medal and a personal commendation by every ranking officer available on the ship, leading to her eventual promotion.
A lot of the older, wiser military leaders became very concerned at this young woman's fast-growing reputation and the fierce opposition they would face if they were to curb her vicious ambition. But by the time they realized, it was already far too late to stop it. Before the age of 29, she was Vice-Admiral on the Hammerhead MKIV-class Cruiser 'Judgement', the youngest Vice-Admiral in history.
Serving five years on the 'Judgement' as the Vice-Admiral taught her a lot of things about leadership and controlling the morale of the crew. She looked up to the Admiral she worked beneath, Jan Helgriche, a stern and powerful woman who was clearly chosen by the Navy higher-ups to stop Karta's ascent to power. But Jan and Karta got along like mother and daughter, despite their obvious differences in disposition and opinion. And precisely five years after she was promoted to Vice-Admiral, Jan put in a recommendation for Karta to attain her own Admiral rank, stunning the older military leaders. To think that Jan trusted this woman so much that she was willing to put her job on the line to help her... it seemed they were either outsmarted completely or Karta really was as good as everyone said.
And two months later, Karta was the Admiral of the newly built Hammerhead MKIV-class Cruiser 'Oracle', leading her crew with her friend and sidekick Kia Stonestrider, nicknamed Kitty-Bear.
Roleplay Sample:
Rubbing her eyes slowly, Karta awoke from her mid-day nap, spitting out the end of a straw she had been chewing before she passed out. Her fingers lazily brushed her coffee cup. Cold as stone and probably tasted just as bland now. Great.
The room was at least warm though. Kitty-Bear had most likely turned the heating on in her quarters when she found her lying at the desk. A rare sight, Admiral Kartanine doing actual work. She probably thought it was a Blue Moon out. Well... blue constellation. Or whatever the expression was in space. Up, down, left and right were always so confused in the endless nothingness of space. No music. Not the bustle of people she missed on Telos or Hapes. Just silence. And the hum of the Hyperdrive that she had tuned out long, long ago.
No parties coming up either, so no excuses to drink the night away without Kitty-Bear getting mad again. Despite her being very cute when she was angry, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to annoy her too much at the moment, considering the circumstances. How was Karta supposed to know that guy was her boyfriend? It's not like he mentioned her or anything. With a gentle sigh, she lay back in her seat, pondering life and it's many meanings. You know, the things that wise people think about.
But the heaviness in the air was palpable, Karta knew it full well. She didn't know why, or how to deal with it. But it was there. And it clearly wasn't just because Kitty-Bear was upset.
They had been travelling virtually in circles for days now in the Outer Rim, patrolling for a particularly nasty group of pirates led by none other than Bogu the Hutt. Fat slug fancied himself some sort of swashbuckler. Frankly, Karta had heard weirder situations, but still. Something didn't feel right. They should have found him by now.
And then the ship shook violently.
There you are...
