Terrain Overview:
The planet of Braeh, often nicknamed The Lonely Son due to it being the only inhabited planet within the Brae System, maintains a higher gravity than most planets due to the dense core at it's center, simultaneously meaning extended comm transmissions from orbit are difficult to achieve simply because of the highly electromagnetic core. Viewed from space, most of Braeh looks covered permanently in ice, snow and severe storm clouds around the equator. However, the equator is in fact rather green and lush compared to the rest of the planet, resembling the lowlands of Alderaan and in some places the forests of Yavin IV. This is due to subtle heating from the fast rotation of the moon Geirr, creating large tropical storms and tornadoes due to the clash of warm and cold air.
In terms of it's geology, the planet would seem to suffer from severe volcanic and tectonic activity due to the sheer amount of mountain ranges, however the tectonic plates of the planet are rather unique in that they pulse outwards from the equator and have very subtle movements, virtually undetectable via traditional instruments. As a result, the rate of erosion only very slightly exceeds the rate of growth when it comes to the various mountains of the planet, meaning as compared to a more standard planet, the mountains are shrinking by about 3 centimeters every decade. Despite this strange geological situation, earthquakes are very rare on the planet, with only two large ones in recorded history.
Free-flowing water on the surface of Braeh seems restricted to the Svelldrey River and it's many tributaries, flowing from Mount Altoheim all the way to the equator of the planet like a belt, ending virtually back where it started, at the foot of the mountain. Most other bodies of water on the planet are beneath ice sheets thicker than the plating of a Republic capital ship, though using certain technologies the Braehyans have learned how to harvest this water for their own purposes.
Technically the planet has four continents, however considering the size of the ice sheet covering the oceans, the planet is often considered a single continent instead, though with eleven sectors, ten of which ruled by the noble houses of Braeh, the eleventh governed by the High King himself. The oddity in this system is of course the Mercurium Wastes, the site of the Battle of Argen, where the first Mercurium Bomb was tested for field use and then quickly decommissioned. This area of the planet, as viewed from space, looks like a mottled bruise of purple and shining silver clouds covering a large, frigid swamp, where no life except for the tiniest of microbes exists.
Notable Geographic Features:
Mount Altoheim
The largest mountain on Braeh, Mount Altoheim is home to the capital city, Rumgull and from it's peak flows the Svelldrey River, which brings life to a great deal of the planet's population. From base to peak, Altoheim stretches up a massive 34'006.4 ft, towering over every other structure, natural or otherwise, on the planet. In the Aldinnord language, Altoheim translates to 'High Home', leading many to believe that this was the first place that a settlement was constructed on the planet.Mount Hraustrheim
The second largest mountain of Braeh, this place is famous for not only being the site of the planet's largest industrial city, Adebrin, but also as the place where the Mercurium Treaty was signed, forming the modern government of Braeh after the death of millions at the hands of the Mercurium Bomb. At the peak of the mountain stands a tribute to High King Jurio the Vast, a plump High King who met his end at the Battle of Argen.Svelldrey River
Wide enough to be an ocean and spanning almost the entire circumference of the planet, the Svelldrey River is the primary source of farming land on Braeh. Only around it's 'shores' may you find land suitable for farming even the least high-maintenance plant-life. As a result, most of the larger settlements are built around here, exporting goods around the planet to allow the others to continue to flourish. The Mercurium Wastes
As stated before, this vast area of land was the site of the Battle of Argen and the victim of the first prototype of the Mercurium Bomb, resulting in the death of tens of millions of Braehyans and the extinguishing of several thousand noble houses, leaving only ten left. Where once there was a flourishing city and farm life, there now lies a acrid wasteland of poisoned water, evaporating ice sheets and, where land once was, large stretches of swamp, all covered in clouds of highly toxic mercurium.
There, due to the unique gravity and pressure of the planet, the mercurium acts exactly like water, resulting in mercurium snow, ice and rain. From afar this appears staggeringly beautiful, with shimmering, chrome rain and sheets of frozen chrome material covering it, however even exposing one's finger to the mercurium for more than a few seconds would result in a slow, agonizing death.
