I'm so glad you've stopped by! You're in for a treat! I am just at this very moment announcing the first ever: EPIC CHALLENGE TO MAKE ME HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!! How fortunate that you happened to stop by right as I announced it! Lucky you! That's right folks, you are all invited to make me happy!!!! *allows a moment for those who have fainted from sheer joy to be revived* How? How, you ask, can we do this!? We MUST know! Well no worries my friends. I'm going to tell you! As many of you may know, my lack of art skills are a crime against nature. So I am unable to render images of my characters. Now... Those of you who stalk the character bios I have written might say "But Meira... You have pictures of Palas, Rook, and Renata, why art thou displeased?" I'll tell you why. Because my lovely Meira, my heart and soul... my first and most cherished, remains in the plains of obscurity in my mind. Believe me, I have tried to draw her. But I will again remind you of my epic failness at art. And poor Trin. She too suffers this fate. And so I beseech you, Members of SWU to rally around the cause and see if you can succeed where even I have failed. Be bold, be brave! Gather your paints, and brushes! Sharpen your pencils and dust off those old sketch pads! Never give up! Never surrender! And draw me some characters!!!! *ahem* In short, I'm asking that if any gifted artists on the site feel up to it... I would luff for you to draw my characters Meira and Trin. Thank you.

So I've been struck with two characters today that I want to make... One of them is Rrhavi, who is over in the Fringe Pending Profiles if you want to take a look at him. Dunno if I want to keep working on him or not. He'd be a fun character, I just don't know if I can get into him enough to really flesh him out. We'll see. The other one is based on a race that I wish I had known about when I made Renata... because she would totally be a Shi'ido. But then again, their lifespan is longer and so I don't know. But if you looked at Rrhavi, and know what the Shi'ido can do... then you spy the link that spawned both. Shapeshifting. I don't know why I got it in my head today, but all morning the only thing I've been able to think about is how cool shapeshifting is. Anywho, I was poking around Wookieepedia to look up different shape shifting species and those two are my favorites. Now what's the idea for the Shi'ido character? Well, I'm not really sure yet. Though I know I want her to be female. Looking up pictures, these two I liked a lot: LinkLinkBut both of those pictures are very different stories, and I can't decide which I'd like to go with. Or where to put her if I do. I'm thinking I want her to be a spy, but I don't know if I want her to be freelance or committed to one particular group. I suppose I don't have any Republic characters... maybe she could work for them. Comments? Questions? Suggestions? Cake?

It's been decided!!!!
At my reception, the wedding party will be introduced with the Cantina song playing in the background!!!!
Ian and I will (of course) be introduced with the main theme song playing!
And the cherry on top? When we go to leave, we'll be playing the Throne Room song! (the one for the medal ceremony at the end of A New Hope).
I couldn't help it. I've decided this and I will not be moved. As a precaution, I won't be telling Ian any of this. He'll just find out like everyone else. I can deal with his anger later....

Sometimes when the stars and planets alight just so, things tend to work out exactly the way I need them to. Case in point: Last night, is snowed enough for the major public schools in the area to declare today a snow day.
Why do I consider this a fortuitous event? Because the children I work with somehow managed to infect me with some superbug that defeated even my amazingly strong immune system and I fell ill. Saturday and Sunday brought no fun and frolicking as my weekends usually do. No, I spent my days off huddled under blankets cursing the microscopic lifeforms that decided to set up shop and wreak havoc in my body. So great was my suffering that I decided I would take Monday (yes kids, today) off work in order to continue recovering.
Lo and behold, as I awoke from my heavily medicated stupor this morning, I found the news channels littered with tidings of great joy. School districts closed! I had no need to call in at all! Praise be to the magical snow monster that sneezed a devastating 3 inches of snow over the area. You can go ahead and call us wimps... I don't have to work today! Na-na na-na boo-boo, stick your head in doo-doo!
Does this mean I'll be productive today? I'd like to think so, but the simple fact is... probably not.
Consolation prize: I remembered my blog! I know that, in the end, this was all that you really cared about. Having spent over two years absent my random musings and less-than-entertaining dream stories.
Wait whoa WHAT!? Two years, that's right loves... Mama Meira be oooooooold.
And just in case you were wondering, yes, James Morrison has a sexy sexy voice.

<3<3<3<3Happy Valentines Day!!!!! <3<3<3<3
I briefly considered doing some sort of code thing to make hearts rain down all over SWU. Then I remembered I don't even know where to being finding something like that, much less how to implement it on the site. And in any case, I don't need Jenno doing some Valentines Day version of Mr. Scrooge because of it. SO! Instead, I would like for you all to imagine beautiful hearts just floating around on the screen, spreading love and warm-fuzzy feelings all around.
Now, before any of you V-day haters get to sippin' on your hater-ade, stop. Just stop. I'm sorry but, get over yourselves. Don't use Valentines Day as an excuse for self loathing. So what if you don't have a significant other. You have a mom don't you!? No mom? How about a sibling? A pet? Sure, Valentines Day is marketed as a day for lovers, but I'm a firm believer that it should be used to celebrate love of all kinds. Do you know what he highlight of my day was? A little girl in the class I work in handed me a tiny fairy temporary tattoo! It was sweet and kind, and that's all that matters!
Yeah, my husband used to get me flowers and the like back when we were dating. But we don't make much of a to-do about it now. Know what our plans tonight are? We're watching the new Conan the Barbarian movie. (I picked it out btw!)
So, haters: don't hate. And people who do have a significant other: it's not WHAT you do, it's that you do it with looooove!
Also, apparently the newest Twilight movie is now out on video, and I've seen some commercials marketed toward guys saying they should buy their girl the movie for Valentines Day. Here's the quote that comes at the end of the commercial: "Because after the movie... (screen shows Bella and Eward kiss) happy Valentines Day to yoooou."
I found that to be hilarious. Cuz you know... nothing says "hey baby, let's get intimate" like...
SPOILER!!!!
Watching a vampire bite a baby out of his wife's uterus.
No lie. That happens....
And with that lovely picture now imprinted in your brain (Team Jacob fans, that word choice was made specifically with you in mind) I think I'm done with my Valentines Day entry.
I hope you all found at least one reason to express love today. If not, there's always tomorrow!
LOVE and Memories, Meira

Feb 15, 2012 18:22:20 GMT -5
Post by Meira on Feb 15, 2012 18:22:20 GMT -5
So, usually, I take streets and back roads to get home from work. Today, however, I had to take a different route because I had to return the Conan the Barbarian dvd that I'd gotten from Redbox for my super-romantic evening with my husband. In case you were wondering, I loved the movie. My husband and I tend to do our own commentary on movies when we're watching them at home. Line of the night: "Here, hold my sword. I gotta go kill some people."
Aaaaaaanyway, I'm driving on the highway and I scared myself just a little bit. How? Well, let me start this little story by first asking YOU a question. (don't worry, it's rhetorical)
Have you ever been driving and had a sudden and inexplicable urge to do something so reckless that you could die?
I have. For example: driving over a bridge today, my mind was suddenly seized with curiosity about what it would be like to drive through the railing and send my car into the air and subsequently crash into the street of other cars bellow.
Truthfully, I doubt my car could get through the safety measures put into place to stop such things from happening. But still... I bet that sense of weightlessness would be fun.
Now, before you all work yourselves into a tizzy worrying for my mental well being... I have no ACTUAL desire to do something like this. I'm just sharing the occurrence. I know I'm not the only person this has happened to. It's one of those things that the brain, for whatever reason, just kinda does on its own.
Don't believe me? Try this: DON'T think of an elephant.
Now why, my dear obedient SWUvians, did you just think of an elephant when I specifically told you not to?? (Those of you smiling smugly at your computer screens thinking "Oh but Meira, I DIDN'T".... you're a liar.)
I'll tell you why you thought of an elephant... put your thinking caps on lovelies, you're about to get learned.
You see, our brains are task and goal oriented. They are constantly checking and self analyzing. The only way for your brain to know that it is NOT thinking of an elephant, is to compare what you're thinking about to whatever you have in your brain filed under elephant. This means that your brain is REQUIRED to think of an elephant in order to be sure that it is NOT thinking of an elephant. It's something of a catch 22 and I love it.
Now, this self-appraising aspect of your brain is not entirely under your control. Like blinking your eyes or breathing... for the most part, it runs on its own. Obviously, your attention can be consciously focused, just as your can consciously start to blink your eyes (which I've bet you've don't since I mentioned it) as well as consciously control your breathing, buuuut, while your mind is more fully occupied doing other, more important, things the brain is able to take these tasks off your hands.
This same system works with things like behavior. Ever been in a situation where you have to be on your best behavior and suddenly you're thinking about all the things you SHOULDN'T do instead of the things you SHOULD do? Same concept. Your brain is comparing what you're doing to things that it categorizes as either appropriate, or not. And since the negatives (such a bad behavior) tend to have a stronger connection within our memories, those are the things you're suddenly flooded with.
This is why, my dear friends, Mama Meira came so close to death today... and yet not even at all. All it would have taken was a slight movement of my hand. At the speed I was going, we're talking inches. This thought completely took me over. And yet the actual urge or desire to do it was nowhere to be found. If you've ever experienced something like this, I think you can agree that it's quite scary... or thrilling... or both I suppose.

It's really windy outside. I mean like... when I got out of my car it almost knocked me over. This is like... Saskatchewan grade wind I'm talking about here. It's legit. And it's reminded me of something that I haven't thought about in a looong time.
My friend, who is pretty much as brilliant as I am (thus why we're friends), and I once came up with a video game concept that we briefly but seriously considered pitching to someone. We figured the people that created South Park would be the best bet, and you'll see why here in a moment. But before I get into it, let me make something clear.
I don't have anything against Canada or Canadians.
Now that you are all well aware that I am in no way prejudiced against the fine nation that is for all intents and purposes America's hat, let me tell you about a little game that we had tentatively entitled Manifest Destiny: Conquering Canada.
I can already tell you want to pre-order.
The concept was fairly simple, this would be an RPG style game in which one plays a character who is an essential component of the U.S.A.'s campaign to take over Canada. How is it done? Why, province by province of course! I won't go into every detail because I don't have the notes my friend and I made, but I assure you, they were extensive. Some examples, however, include infiltrating a secret lumber jack society and moving up the ranks until you are the leader of said society, fighting Mounties throughout, and the mission in Saskatchewan, which prompted this whole commentary.
See, apparently it's reeeeeeally windy up there. So the mission there involved getting into this epically huge turbine factory and shutting off the wind machines. This would, logically, cause all the people of that province (who are so accustomed to compensating for the wind) to lose balance and fall over, thus making occupation a breeze (pun very much intended).
Other gems include Christopher Walkin cast as the President and Canada actually being governed by a secret evil organization named after a certain starchy food who's French name means "Apple of the Earth".
Now, I hope you don't all fall into deep depressions knowing that such a wonderfully glorious idea exists and yet you will likely never get to experience the full magnitude of its awesomeness. That was not my intention in sharing this with you. I merely hoped to better your day by letting you know that people like me are out there, thinking these grand thoughts. Because as long as I and my fellow geniuses keep it up, there will always be hope for humanity.
You're welcome, Meira

I'm gonna level with you my lovelies...
I was gonna get on here and write some big long post like I usually do. Possible topics included: my dream last night (I know y'all have just been going crazy waiting for another one of those posts), how I cannot freaking WAIT for it to be spring already, and how having your corpus callosum severed could cause you to strangle yourself.
But in the end, there's only one thing I really want to tell you today.
Girl Scout cookies are perhaps some of the most delicious things I've ever put in my mouth.

So, I know I left you hanging with my last post. I teased you with self strangulation but left you with nothing more than my preferences for oral insertion. For that, I apologize. Further, I apologize for leaving you for so long once again. No, it wasn't a two year sabbatical this time... but when I came back, I did so en force, posting almost daily.
(Fun fact: Back when I was in high school, I was part of the broadcast journalism class. We taped and aired announcements for the school, made back to school and senior videos and were all-around AV nerds, sans the nerds of course. Anywho, my friend [you remember her, the one that's basically as brilliant as I am?] and I informally started referring to our broadcasts as the "Almost Daily News" because we aired like 3 days a week. Turns out, they still call it that!)
So, I'm sorry I keep doing this to you. I know how you ache for me to put my words onto this site so that you can process them with your eyeballs. I'd say that I'm going to make the effort to post in here more, but we'd both know it would be a hollow promise. I'm a great starter, but I have no lasting power.
So, what now? I don't know. The only reason I'm here typing words is because a conversation between myself, Moonfire, and Kella reminded me of an ooooooold post I made on here and then I started rereading things I wrote. Part of me enjoyed the read, appreciating my wit. Another part of me began to wonder if I was the only one that actually read any of this. That part was quickly silenced by my over sized ego (imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger laying the smack down on some emo kid). Also, Firefox's built in spell check is amazing in that it has Schwarzenegger in it for corrections. The amount of work I would have had to do to get the correct spelling for that name would have been beyond my limit of care.
(Fun fact #2: The Schwarz is coming out with a new movie in which he plays a sherriff who is apparently the only one capable/willing/around to stop some Mexican crime lord who has just busted out of custody from getting back to Mexico. Anyone else exited to see this man back in the movie business where he belongs?)
And now, I believe I will leave you unceremoniously once again. Why, because I finished my beer and will have to make the long and dangerous trek to the kitchen to acquire more and I believe that if I leave now and don't post this, I will change my mind upon return and not post at all. We all know you don't want that.
Love and Memories, Meira
