Affiliated with a democracy amidst a war growing ever more dire, those looking to report for the Republic News Network must find their own balance between patriotism and journalistic integrity. After all, freedom of the press is an assumed and dearly beloved principle to any liberty loving citizen of the Republic, and things have not grown so desperate that the government would dare consider any heavy-handed censorship. And yet a conscientious citizen must also understand that freedom is balanced by responsibility. After the disaster at Taris, one must consider the weaknesses of a democracy, as well as its strengths; budding panic threatens public morale as the threat to the heart of the Republic becomes increasingly real. The government cannot stand without its people, and its people cannot stand without hope. But just as surely, the strength of the Republic is built upon the public trust. Is peace of mind any good to the viewers if it means lying to them?

Appearance: At a well-kept 45 standard years of age, Udanzo is a perfect example of a man in middle age keeping his deterioration handily in check by dint of sheer personal energy. When he stands, he stands straight and proud, his full 6’5” height (Counting the montrals, of course.) on display. His pigmentation features alternating stripes of snow white and rich cobalt blue. It is mainly the latter that dominates his face, but white stripes coming in from his cheekbones and just above his temples twist to form a sort of “domino mask” pattern around his his eyes that lend his stare a certain intensity. To provide a better contrast with these vibrant colors, he favors semi-formal suits in subdued colors, most typically a black shirt, unbuttoned at the top with grey jacket and slacks.

Personality: Udanzo is known for, and prides himself on his ability to convey urgency without raising his voice or otherwise abandoning his composure. This skillful balance has made him in a trusted and respected name in homes across the Republic. During every broadcast and interview, with every defeat on the front, he has explained the situation unflinchingly, no attempt at sugar coating made. And yet, no matter the scale of the disaster, his professional calm never abandons him, and the viewer, in turn, can usually take away some glimmer of hope that these are not, in fact, the final days of the Republic.
