-=-Hello!-=-
Hello! Salutations! Bonjour! I am cooljob4! Recently I have taken up an interest in the Star Wars genre of role play! I am very happy to be here and look forward to future role play with whom are wonderful role players!-=-About Me-=-So for start I guess I should tell you a little about myself. My first name is Maria, I am currently 19 and attending the University of Chester, England. I have roughly 4 years of role play experience but all in the fantasy aspect of role play sadly. (Elves, Dwarves, etc.) I hope to increase my experience in other genres such as this one. -=-A few questions-=-Before I start this, yes I have read the rules, lore, etc. But when I was going to create my character I had just a few questions.
1. What races does this role play use? Because I was looking at the lore and information area and I was unable to find any information on playable races for characters.
2. To become a Sith/Jedi do I automatically have to apply for a mentor? Yes of course you are not allowed to start out as a Sith lord or Jedi Master, but I am confused on where to start down that path. I know that you fill out an application but do I obtain a mentor through role play? Or does the application do that for me so once I fill one out, I am paired with one?
3. Where do I start? Once again I have read all of the information forums but is there a specific forum to start your characters role play on? I just need a little explanation on that please.
4. Are younger characters allowed? As stupid of a question it may sound I just wanted to ask because I had this idea of starting my character young. (Its a WIP so it may not happen just wanted to ask.) But if younger characters are permitted, what is the age rate? Such as how long does it take for a child to become an adult?
5. How does Private messaging role play work? If players wish to have a one on one role play but off the forums because its secret or what not, what do you do? Do we use skype? PM?
Once again I look forward to role playing here as I hope this new experience will be one to remember. I will update this thread further if I have more questions and/or message a staff member.
Happy to be here! ~CoolJob

Hey there newbie, welcome to SWU and all that. I'm gonna go through this section by section: Hello! We had thought the arrival of TFA would bring out the SW roleplay bug in people. Seems we could be right
About YouA brit! SWU has long had a tradition of amigos across the pond. You won't be parting from fantasy really, as Star Wars is classified as exactly that. Just has laser swords, and space magic. See Neology , our resident space elf expert for advice on transitioning from fantasy to space fantasy.
A Few Answers Happy to answer all and any; 1. Basically anything goes race wise, so long as they were apart of galactic society in our era. Which if you've read the lore and jank, you should have no trouble finding a race. We've had everything from twi'leks to mon cal to endless epicanthix. Either way, when you app the reviewing moderator will let you know if a race is kosher or not 2. Yo, you can totally apply for a Sith Lord or Jedi Master. You can even apply for a Darth or High Councilor, but know these receive the fiercest scrutiny due to their story importance. But as for mentors, you can write in an NPC if unable to find a member to take you on. You'll always have the staff (colored names) as a resource for any help with the site itself you may need, and there's an entire board designed for members to find one another for roleplay. 3. The aforementioned Roleplay Setup board is your best resource, but simply sending someone a message asking for a thread can yield too. The shoutbox is also an excellent resource, as there's always people farting around in it. 4. Right. Age for SWU is tricky in a way. You can app for basically any age, within reason of course. However we often warn that due to SWU's slow story rate, that one should choose the age which they would want to play said character most. Progress and character building is what we're all about, but the bio section of an app is where you can write about your character's development. 5. Whatever really man, we dun really care how ya'll roleplay together so long as it stays within out rules. Both pm's and skype are often used by members to communicate, so there's that answer I guess
Cheers CJ, and once more; welcome to SWU. Feel free to post more questions here, or as I previously mentioned ask via pm or shoutbox. Either way, there's pretty much always someone around to answer stuff.

Thank you for answering my questions! I will get to work on my character application as soon as possible. I know a lot about the movies and such just never role played this genre so thank you for clarifying it's like fantasy role play. The reason why I asked the age question is because I had planned on starting the character at a very young age but if it'll take an extreme amount of time to age up I will just make the character a tad older but still fairly young. I would although like to train my character under a actual player. I feel it'd just be better for the role play for me personally so I'll look into finding a staff member who trains and or a player. Would you happen to know anyone who does train besides random staff members? Once again, thank you for answering my questions and I'm excited to begin my journey into the Star Wars role play haha! ~CoolJob

Hello new person. Welcome to this grand place. Im one of those someone's who can answer some questions, and is usually lurking around close by. Any member can play a master for someone. All it takes is a knight or master level jedi to do so. In the Roleplay request board are a couple of threads that have a Master/paddy list. They should be fairly updated, so if you see someone without a paddy, send a pm and hope for the best, or find them in the cbox.
I would like to mention that starting off with a young charrie takes time to buildup, and they dont have much freedom at all. Its recommended that a first charrie isn't a paddy or apprentice, and if so, close to becoming a knight, so that they aren't limited by running alongside someone and having their own freedom. Still, the choice is yours to make. Keep em questions coming if you have em.

With the young character once I learned it would take quite a while I decided to age up the character from say like 16 - 18. This I would hope would give the character that freedom of an adult yet also keeping the aspect of he character is very young and needs lots of training.
