Duros the planet and the system was first in space. In fact, their pilots have mapped the known universe a while ago. Their Merchants Guilds files on each planet in the known Galaxy. They have been Star Pilots for over 100,000 years. In fact, they have been in space longer then the Sith/ Jedi wars 10,000 YBY5 (years before Yavin 5). That is considered to be the Ancient Times. Archaic is 5,000 YBY5. At least by the rest of the known universe.

If you want to know just how important space is to Duros, you have to look no further then the name given to any ship's hull internal structure beams. It is called DUROsteel, for a reason. Some time ago, the Duros people split their race. Those who longed for space became what is known as Duros, modern. Those that wanted to settle down and do something they call 'productive' essentially became the Nemodians, those who became known in Episode 1 as the Trade Federation faction.
The Duros do have one of the finest shipyards in the known galaxy, with one little caveat. They do not teach star piloting to anyone but their own. And most of their people can do astrogation without taking off their boots. In fact, many non-Duros people are easily frustrated by Duros doing Astrogation. Layman's terms 10=8. (God, I love Star Gate.) To form a location in space, you are trying to find, you need at least 6 beacon stars and that gives you a point as well as 7th point, your place of origin. Duros use Base 8 math in doing Astrogation and Base 8 math, the numbers are 0 - 7, there is no PI in Base 8. Base 8 is a six sided dice, where as Base 10 is a marble. It has been so important to them, they looked for a proper computer, and then realized they could make one. Even 100,000 years after they entered space, their computers, DNC - Duros Navigational Computers, are still considered to be the finest with the ability to do millions of calculations every second.
The Duros are set up in Clans and each Clan has a different Nursery off-world. They are egg layers like Nemodians who also have off-world nurseries but they only have one or two in each Nursery instead of the Nemodians' hundreds. The Nemodian infants first food is their fellow infants. Duros may not be that mean to their offspring, but also the parents almost never raise their own young.
All Duros royalty look almost black, it is their coloring difference from the lower castes, but the blue most people call Duros, are in fact Engineers and pilots. Every Duros is trained in piloting, it's in our genes, and it is our hallmark of our race, the finest star pilots in the known galaxy. Sure some Sith and Jedi can match a Duros pilot, but not many can match a Duros Force Pilot.
