Name: Gamar Tarok
Race: Geonosian
Age: 47
Birth place: Karundar hive, Geonosis
Allegiance: Karundar, Geonosis
Status: Scientist, Roboticist
Rank: Head Scientist
Height/Weight: 5’7” / 130lbs
Appearance:
Gamar is from the noble caste of the Geonosian people, standing at a mostly average height, but lacking some of the strength that the rest of his fellow aristocrats possess, thus appearing a bit more slim. His chitin has a light orange color on the front of his body, and a darker orange on his back, while the bodyparts that aren’t covered by chitin are a standard brown. His wings are kept in a good condition, the parts closer towards his back are orange but towards the ends they are somewhat see-through. His finger tips are thinner and more pointy than the rest of the average Geonosians, it gives him more precision when working with small instruments and tools. Small scratches and occassional burns can be seen on some parts of his chitin, mostly around the hands and the arms, these are results of certain mistakes he sometimes makes during working.
The most defining features on the head of Gamar is his skull’s elongated backside, encasing a larger than usual Geonosian brain, adorned with a few outward reaching chitin spikes; and the small, fleshy tendrils growing out from his jaw that show that he has lived for more than four decades already, and he’s soon reaching old age. Gamar’s eyes are a bit closer to the center of his face than the rest of his species, his left eye has a quite distinct ’’electric monocle’’ on it almost all the time, which is attached to the area above his left eye. This custom red-tinted, grey framed monocle acts as a portable microscope, the user may use it to zoom in our out to further analyse objects, though it doesn’t replace other important tools for analysis. He is mostly free of deep wrinkles.
His attire consists of durable, traditionally decorated clothing. On his torso he wears a noble’s grey shirt, with the usual spike shoulder pads that most of the insect species’ aristocrats wear, with a ruby gem in the middle part. A similarly grey cape filled with Geonosian symbols on the outside is connected to his shoulder pads, it goes around his wings and then under them, to allow flying even with the cape on. A multiple layered, long loincloth in similar fashion to the others’ clothes is the only thing on his lower body, apart from the rubied belt above it. On his left lower arm there is a bronzium-covered bracer, which contains a comlink and a personal datapad with a red holoprojector.
Personality:
What first strikes the simple observer when he looks at Gamar, is that he’s exceptionally calm and reserved for someone of his rank and race. He likes to remain in a relaxed pose, most of the time keeping his hands behind his back, or crossing his arms. He seems like he isn’t concerned about anything that’s going on around him, judging from his usual facial expressions. Even when something unexpected happens, he seems more amused and intrigued than surprised, always curious about everything that’s new to him. To most civil and esteemed outsiders he acts with caution and respect, often linked with some friendly humor, however, with unsympathetic aliens and Geonosians from other hives he switches to a more strict, ’’disgusted’’ demeanor, and he likes to degrade these people with his witty sarcasm, even if not outright declaring his dislike for them.
Although he may seem like he isn’t really disturbed by anything in his surroundings, he really is just analysing everything that he sees, hears or feels, and makes mental notes of these. In fact, his attention is on almost everything that’s mortally possible for a ’’simple’’ Geonosian scientist; he is regarded as a genius among his own people. This particular scientist also likes to take things into his own hands, he believes that only the ambitious with a righteous cause should ever lead a society, it’s part of why he’s become the Head Scientist of his home hive. He takes great pride in his creations, seeing what he’s doing as art, as what he designs and creates comes ’’alive’’ as soon as everything in it is in place and the power is turned on. Seeing opportunity in everyone and everything, Gamar is not only a scientist, but a culturally enriched polyhistor, although his experience in other subjects may only be from theory, and no practice. He’s always looking for more things to include in or model after his next project, he values everyone who may provide him with useful contacts, information, knowledge, or just a good talk.
On a deeper level, everything that Garam Tarok does is for his steadily declining hive, Karundar. The constant rivalry between the Geonosian hives makes him distrust every other member of his own race that’s not from Karundar. He aims to preserve and see his home flourish compared to those around them. As the Duke of Karundar is in a sickly state, Garam became the ambassador in his home, so he represents his people in front of both the people of Geonosis and the people of the Galaxy. For this reason, he doesn’t show weakness so that their surrounding neighbours wouldn’t get any ideas to invade them, and this is part of why he’s always looking for extra-planetary allies and contracts. If he could mass produce his creations, make considerable profit and open up inter-galactic trade to his home, it would put Karundar in a more favourable position compared to the other Geonosian settlements. He believes he’s the only one that can lead his people through these uncertain times, so that they could become a shining civilization on their planet, instead of disappearing into the sandstorm of history.

Bio:
The thirty third from that particular batch of newly laid eggs survived, it’s number considered lucky, a good omen among the Geonosian people. That one egg was the one that contained the larva, that was to be named Gamar Tarok later on after he’d evolve from this early form. His story wouldn’t start out very much different from any other Geonosian’s, in his child form he was catered for by the adults of his race, teachers and feeders. Skittering around the hive’s lower levels and waiting to be fed at least showed that he’s biologically healthy.
The rapid growth of larvae soon proved the small creature’s luck: after one year of growth it was evident by his - yet to be working – wings that he’s a member of the aristocrat caste, and so he was named according to that. He was then separated from the drone caste’s younglings, and grouped up with the rest of the to-be-nobles. It was soon evident that he was a quick learner, being interested in technology from a very small age. He already made his first electric circuits when other whelps were making their first toy-weapons. Physical exercise wasn’t to his dislike, but he was always more content with fidgeting around with technology, than beating up other people in the hive. Around the end of his childhood, by the age seven, he had already made his first primitive droid, a small, bug-like waste collector; though it had it’s faults, often trying to collect ’’waste’’ from live Geonosians’ face and chitin with it’s chippers. Gamar found it quite humourous, as much the others hated it.
The droid may have been childish, but it showed both the promise of Gamar’s mind and his ambition to create. When an aristocrat’s profession and further education was to be decided, they were evaluated by their peers, their teachers and caretakers. It wasn’t a question that Gamar would become a pupil of science, and so with a few other students he was put under the watchful eye of an old Geonosian professor by the name of Cor Parg. The young scientist developed his ambitious personality during the tutoring years of Parg, only the best results were praised by the old teacher, his support for creative thinking was essential on all accounts. Gamar was one of his favourite students because of his neglect for the political life of the hive at the time, even though it was buzzing with life because of the old age of the current Duke. A change in the leadership was imminent, but the scientists and their students didn’t have much power to contest some of the warriors aspiring to be Duke, even if they were still aristocrats themselves.
By the time Gamar finished with his essential studies, the change has happened, a high-ranking warrior named Rak Mur united enough people behind his cause to seize power after the old Duke has died. The new Duke wanted to ensure that Karundar could withstand any attack from outsider hives, and such an undertaking required the help of the minds of the hive itself. One may call it luck that Gamar was already regarded as the best aspiring roboticist among the students of Cor Parg, so it was not a question that Duke Rak Mur wanted him on his personal research team. Along with a few experts on certain subjects, they were tasked with designing new automatic turrets that could help repel any possible invasions, or just the regular daring predators of the land. Students like Gamar, who finished with their studies recently were mostly just assigned to handle trivial tasks, like in his own case: to double check turret designs for lingering mistakes. The old models were around a hundred years old, which could only survive with constant maintenance for so long. A few started to completely malfunction to a degree that the only use to them would’ve been to melt down every usable part and make the new turrets out of them. At least so did everyone think. Gamar trusted his and the team’s skills of designing a completely new turret, but as an ambitious little newbie, he was sure that first thing they should do is analyse the old constructions for a clue to why they needed so much maintenance.
He looked into the matter in his own free time, as in his work hours he was expected to oversee the new designs’ problems. He asked a few of the drones tasked with the salvaging of the turrets to bring him one or two still mainly intact models of the turrets. As these weren’t small devices, he had to investigate them inside a hangar; they couldn’t fit into his own room. He digged around in the hive’s archives to see if the plans for the old turrets were available, but to no avail, they disappeared through the decades since their making. This is where his talent of reverse-engineering came into play, which was honed even further under the watchful eyes of Cor Parg. He essentially de-constructed the two turrets, checking which parts were responsible for the technological problems, then tried to renovate how they must’ve worked by building the pair of turrets into one, using each’s salvageable parts. His conclusion was that even though the technology was quite out of date on a few accounts, there were some problems with the design of the circuits. The way electricity was transformed inside the devices was supposedly effective on the short term, but on the long term there were many positive and negative spikes in the flow of energy. As the resistance of the circuits were made for a specific amount of electricity, it didn’t take longer for the turrets than two years at maximum to show signs of malfunction, parts inside started melting down or worse, explode.
What was crucial about this for the team’s current research, was that evidently, their own designs still had the habit of having these same problems, it was a blind spot in Karundar’s technological advancements. Gamar, proud of himself, presented his findings to the research team’s head, who was first skeptical about the facts, but later on when the young one could finally convince him, he was seemingly ashamed that no-one checked up on this sooner. Nevertheless, he was more than impressed, and Gamar was assured that he’d get a more important position on the team. Before he got his new job however, he pleaded the research team’s leader to talk with the new Duke about revising the whole hive’s essential systems, like life-support, lighting, factories and ventilation systems. As he thought, the same faulty technology may be used in these older facilities as well, and it was only their size that elongated the process of complete breakdown, larger and longer circuitry meant more resistance to differing amounts of electricity, but only for a few years more at best. Gamar’s request was denied by the leader, as the complete revision of the whole hive would’ve taken too much time from other, more ’’up-to-date’’ needs of Karundar, like the turret that they were assigned to make.
Gamar was quite disappointed by the fact that the others didn’t share his views on the matter and tried several times to prove the need for revision to his peers, but without success. He was assigned as an AI programmer to the project at hand however, in which he quite excelled. Soon after the new turrets were ready they could already be field tested: rival Geonosian hives tried to attack Karundar, but the brand new defensive measures quickly dispersed the unprepared foes.
The project was a success and most participants were organised into a permanent research team, Gamar among them. Years passed, new and new breakthroughs were made, and the genius of Tarok was unraveling itself in front of everybody, he soon went from an ordinary researcher into a research leader. During this time Gamar started to accumulate political sway, he was still hell-bent on making those revisions on all the old systems of the hive, and after a decade of lobbying and pleading Duke Rak Mur he had succeeded: the whole of Karundar was to be reworked from bottom up. This was a rare opportunity for Gamar and he gave his heart and soul into the revision. The quality of the hive’s systems rapidly improved and the Duke quickly befriended the aspirant scientist. Soon Gamar became one of his closest friends and supporters, and so in recognition of his services he promoted his friend to Head Scientist.
For a good while everything seemed to be going jolly for the hive of Karundar, it seemed that their technological advantage over their rivals was becoming greater and greater. However, their advantage didn’t account to much when Duke Rak Mur fell ill, seemingly out of nowhere. Gamar theorised that it was treason by someone in the high circle of the Duke, but couldn’t pinpoint who was it that could’ve contaminated his friend. As the illness became worse with time, Rak Mur could barely leave his own chambers, there was no one to lead the people. That’s when the Duke decided, that it would be the best idea to name Gamar as his regent for now. The Duke knew that he didn’t have much time left yet, but that Gamar wouldn’t have enough support right now to take over the mantle of Duke. So he gave the order to his friend that he is to increase the number of his own supporters, or some idiot of a warrior noble will take his place instead.
Gamar knew what he had to do. There was no way to convince nobles to support him without any strength, even if he was the brightest mind of the hive, they’d just say that he does not deserve the title of Duke because he isn’t powerful enough. So there was only one chance for the scientist to secure his own position: with the help of foreign forces. And so he boarded a starship to visit neighbouring worlds and systems in search of allies and supporters.

The dust storm has finally passed away from above the canyons, it was time for the aging scientist to board ship and leave his homeworld for the first time in his life. Gamar was staring through the window at the great rockformations of Geonosis, or maybe his own face’s reflection instead.
’’You best be on your way… the sooner you’re done… the better…’’ the sickly Duke uttered from his medical pod.
Gamar turned his chest towards his friend and a slight smile appeared on his face.
’’Can’t wait to get rid of me?’’ he said to the Duke.
’’Oh I know of a few men who’d love to get rid of –me-. ’’ The man answered, turning a harmless question into a matter of life and death yet again. Gamar only shook his head.
He adjusted his monocle and his attire, then made a few steps toward the door. Turning one last time backward, he nodded with respect towards the Duke, who returned the same gesture. They have already said their goodbyes to each other. There was a good chance that by the time Gamar arrives back to Geonosis the Duke won’t be alive, so there was no time to waste.
The head scientist has boarded the ship that was to bring him to the stars, the vast emptiness of space. After he took his place as the ship’s ’captain’, he took a quick look around himself: droids were to be his only companions for he dared not to risk any of his fellow scientists, nor did he want to risk the possible betrayal of any bodyguards. It was going to be a lonely journey, but nevertheless he did not falter.
He was soon in a world of endless possibilities after all! The journey will not be so lonely, once he makes the right friends among the galaxy various denizens. And with that, he has begun his quest.
