Biography: Harlok was born on the core world of Ganthel. His father was a shipping tycoon who helped the Republic move questionable materials for financial considerations. During the years of the before upheaval in the galaxy, his family benefited greatly. They lived in a lavish estate, and everything they touched turned to gold. Harlok came 10 years after the year of the before the Sith returned to claim the galaxy as the Sith’s own . In the confusion of the next few years the republic suffered, but his family was able to mostly maintain their control of their own personal shipping empire as the galactic senate was reeling. This was not to last. The Republic cracked down as any kind of slight was seen as an act of rebellion against the Republic. While the crimes his family was doing were coming to light, they also were sheltered by high ranking officials that kept most of the heat off the family.
As the Republic weakens, the Chancellor’s influence quickly faded, and the Senate’s power shifted wildly in reaction to the security breeches, the family quickly fell out of favor and the opulent life they knew was coming to an end. The records were becoming unsealed, and all that was in shadow was coming to light. Those attached to the old senators were hung out to dry and new power brokers were moving in. Harlok was put up to try to show their allegiance to the new Senate, and many promises were made by the Senate contacts that remained, and there was a new promise to restore the families rightful power. Harlok was entered into the Republic academy at the age of 12. Harlok’s mother knew better however, she watched him with tears in her eyes knowing that they would be imprisioned or dead in the next year. She implored him to become powerful, and preserve his families honor. He watched out the back port of the ship as his family slipped away as they left the planet and that world behind. His mother was right. The family was killed off by rivals shortly afterwards leveraging new Senate power brokers and destroyed any promise that spies told them were made to restore them to prominence before they had a chance to come to fruition.
Harlok’s first experience with the Republic was on the shuttle over. “Let’s see if you have strength boy.” The commanders microphoned voice said from behind him. His plastisteel armor and cape highlighted his look and he held a training weapon of sorts. Harlok hesistated for just an instant, but instinctively thought better and grabbed the weapon. The commander took a testing blow at him, but he blocked it easily thanks to the basic combat that was part of his tutoring. However, the next blow was not so easy to deflect. His last second maneuver impressed the Commander and he moved to finish the job he started. Harlok gave him a fight, but he was soon disarmed, but not without a little pain. Harlok winced a little. Crying however was out of the question. The commander nodded as picked up the flung weapon. “You got heart, you’ll do.” Harlok’s time at the academy was filled with ups and downs. He excelled early having a head start on many of the recruits on all aspects of being an officer, but his family’s death caught up to him about a year and half in. After that point, Harlok redoubled his effort to be the best. He was the lone representative of his family and his mother’s words rung in his mind. He needed to maintain his family’s honor. He graduated top of his class and impressed the leadership at the academy bringing him into their early plans in the area. His youth and charm helped them get vital information to help the cause, and now Harlok was ready for his first assignment.

“This isn’t like the simulation room anymore.”
The officer looked at the young man dressed as miner ready to take a transport to the surface. This certainly would be a change for him. During the good times his father would have gotten minerals from the surface to smugglers all around the core, but now he’d be returning as a simple miner working his way into information about when the Mandalorians would attack. The Republic knew it would only be a matter of time. The minerals on the planet would help fund their war, and provide a launching point for further attacks. Harlok turned to his commander, and gave one last salute.
“ I know sir, and your training will help get me over any obstacle I will encounter.”
Harlok stepped into the shuttle, and the door hissed shut behind him. He sat on the bench with other members of the Republic military that were going to assist him on the journey. He knew how important this mission would be. The Jedi were busy handling the Sith, and if he could provide information to deal a blow to the Mandalorians then maybe the Republic could turn the tide right here. He thought of his mother and what she had said to him. Her last words ever to him, and his whispered to himself.
“Don’t worry mother, my future has begun already.”
The ship slowly worked its way down and the view of the planet got increasingly dusty as they entered the atmosphere of the planet. There were green sections he could see from above, but he wondered how anyone could live in such a place. He now knew why they gave them all industrial grade rebreathers. He finished putting on the mining equipment, and the mining representatives came into the ship to “greet” them.
“Alright everyone off. We got work to do you lazy slugs! You think since it’s your first day you have the day off? We got 8 hours of work to do still. “
He at once wondered what he had signed up for, but he knew that tough situations were part of the job assignment. It wasn’t going to be all resorts and luxury. Especially not at first. Harlok shot up in his seat and headed to the front while adjusting his breather, it was time to get to work.
