Pala'shak Full Name • Pala'shak, or Palace Hak (pronounced "palace") Nickname • Cap'n Race • Twi'lek Birthplace • Ryloth Age • 37 Gender • Female Sexuality • Heterosexual Faction • Fringe Concept • Rank 2, Smuggler Languages • Basic, Twi'lek. Understands Huttese. Assets • Blaster pistol w/ hip holster, holdout blaster concealed in boot. Her ship, Nui's Jewel, may or may not currently be in her possession. Appearance Height & Weight • 5'8", 140 Overall Looks • Palas possesses the curves that females of her species are known for. She does not carry those curves particularly well, however. Rather than graceful or coy in her posture, Palas is blunt and standoffish most of the time. Palas' skin is a light purple, with a smattering of darker purple freckles across her collarbone and shoulders. Her eyes are a darker purple. She wears practical clothing, which usually means sturdy boots, pants, a shirt or tank top, and a jacket. Personality Profile Palas' life as a smuggler and ship captain has toughened her skin. Newly hired crew members are surprised to find her as a stern and unfeeling captain, as opposed to their expectations of a flirty twi'lek like the ones at the cantina. Because crew members usually don't stay on long, Palas has developed a fierce independence as well as a cold, tough exterior. Because her solitude leaves little time to repair her ship, she has also developed a sense of denial as to her own predicament of not being able to maintain her ship and crew. But beneath the emotionless face and cold threats lies the heart of a vulnerable person yearning for true friendship and trust. If someone makes the effort to stick out out with Palas and earn that trust, they are met with compassion and and a fierce loyalty, as well as a sarcastic but gentle humor. And though she is stubborn and often single minded, Palas is a good leader and a great friend. Background Father • Thon, 60, Former Smuggler... current deadbeat addict Mother • Nui, 39 at death, Former Housewife Siblings • none Other Important Connections • Lash Venedray, 34, Pilot... It's complicated Overall History • Palas was born to Nui and Thon Hak, on Ryloth during a lull in the slave trade. Her father, known for his raids on other clan cities, was hard pressed for credits because of the lack of business and began to dip into spice smuggling. She saw very little of Thon as she grew up, but his expanded business brought their family a life of comfort. When she was 10, her father moved them off of Ryloth when he had heard their clan planned to banish him and his family to the Bright Lands. He had sold one of their own clan into slavery, and that had been the last straw. They moved to Bespin, where Thon covered up his smuggling with a fake Tibanna gas trading company. They continued to live in relative comfort on Bespin, though her father had had his fair share of close calls. Since Bespin was the base of Thon's 'company', he now spent more time at home. Over the years, he would teach Palas some tricks of the trade, such as how to fly, repair, and modify all kinds of ships. She also learned how to handle a blaster. Her mother had often protested, wanting Palas to act more like a Twi'lek lady, but Thon had seen how Twi'lek ladies were treated, he had made sure of it in many cases, and wanted nothing of that for his own daughter. Just after her 19th birthday, Palas was given command of a freighter. Her father had recently purchased it, his second. Like the other, it was small and unremarkable, perfect for smuggling. Thon and Palas modified it together, installing secret compartments and a signal jammer. She was set to name the ship The Shadowlander, but on the day of it's maiden voyage, a gas explosion shook the city. The explosion had detonated in a storage container located on the level below their family's home. It had torn the place apart, and killed her mother. It was determined through investigation that the explosion had been sabotage. Thon, sure that his past had come back to haunt him, soon fell into despair, unable, or unwilling, to continue on the business. He left it all to Palas, who was unable to govern two ships. She sold the first to the pilot her father had once employed and kept the one her father had given her and named it Nui's Jewel. As her father slipped into addiction to the very spice he once smuggled, Palas scrambled to make ends meat. Within a few years, she, and a come-and-go crew of three settled into a fairly stable ryll smuggling business. Things were going well, and so Palas decided to take a little risk. She had a shipment lined up for Nar Shadaa, but her usual crew would not be available to go with her. Palas usually avoided the seedier places when she didn't have her crew to back her up, but she had been on a roll the last few months, and didn't want to lose the momentum. Securing this buyer meant a whole new line of steady credits. So she set off for the smuggler moon. Once there, Palas had secured the shipment, and feeling good about it, had gone to have herself a celebratory drink at a nearby cantina. While at the bar, she was overpowered by a couple of thugs who tied her up and took her to their boss, Jarno Xi. Jarno dealt in all sorts of black market fares, including a Twi'lek slave ring. The thugs brought her to his office, hoping to get a little bonus for their initiative. Instead, they each got a good shot to the head. Thankful for the holdout blaster in her boot, Palas was able to escape. Ever since, she was far more careful about the kinds of jobs she would take. This policy served her well enough to keep her alive in the years that would follow, but she was most often living on lean times, barely able to keep her ship fueled... never mind in good repair. All of that would almost come crashing down around her lekku once again when a scummy pilot named Lash hid on her ship after she'd picked up a shipment of spice from a Hutt. Believing she was helping the pilot to escape his obligations, the Hutt put out a bounty on both Palas and Lash. The two, though they disliked each other, were forced to cooperate until they were able to set the record straight and clear their names. The two ran into various troubles and hard times, and ended up splitting paths. Palas would continue to struggle to keep her head above water for several years, often coming close to losing her ship, the only good thing she has left in her life. |
