His blue-grey eyes are as piercing and intelligent as those of his daughter, and it's no small wonder where she got them from. Considering his naval experience, Kovus doesn't have many scars, a few very faded ones from duels in his youth and one at his upper back near the spine from an injury he'd received after having to eject from his fighter after being shot down. He is well muscled for a man his age and poses a fairly imposing figure when he wants to. Typically, while working these days, he is seen in something very similar to a military uniform. During his leisure time, however, he enjoys looser fitting long sleeved shirts, vests and pants with a solid pair of boots. During more formal occasions he will carry his saber (an actual saber, not a lightsaber), and sometimes a sidearm. When traveling he may either be seen in his uniform or a suit with a long coat. Personality Profile Kovus has always had a sense of nobility and chivalry about him. Coming from a long line of military men and women a sense of duty was common to be bred into the younger members of the family and he was no exception. With this, and the fact that several of his family, including one of his personal grandfathers, were attached in some way or another to the nobility and the Crown, Kovus grew up learning that chivalry was never a wasted effort, nor was diplomacy...when practical. Practicality is something the man is quite well known for, as well, and something he's tried to instill in his children. Being born and bred in a military family, and later taking up a position in the navy himself, Kovus tries to be practical at all times, even if it isn't necessarily what he would prefer to have happen. This isn't to say that he doesn't sometimes let his heart win the battle sometimes, but even then he attempts to be as practical in his expectations and demands as possible. A loyal man, he puts the good of Corellia and her people above his own many times, but his family's needs are always (almost always) number one in that respect. Kovus is very much a family man, loving his family dearly and doing whatever he can for them. Some of his fondest memories are of camping trips, riding lessons and working on ship models with his children. Slow to anger, Kovus likes to think of himself as fairly even tempered, but he knows as well as anyone who has been around him long enough that once his limit has been reached the man has quite a temper and a vindictive side. It may not show right away, he doesn't often yell, but there is an unmistakable edge that comes to him in these times and you can be sure the proverbial axe will come down hard on someone's neck. A perfect example of his vindictive nature was the intense pleasure he felt at the horrific way Vex had trapped Andrew in his own memories and left him to die reliving the same horror over and over again until his heart gave out. Even so, this isn't something he often lets show, fully aware of this part of himself and keeping a solid grip on it. Over all, he is a fairly even man, sometimes seeming a little cool in his mannerisms, but at the core of him, Kovus is just as warm and driven and sentimental as any Corellian. His family, in general, are military members or called to service in some fashion, be it CorSec or fire department or the actual military branches. He grew up watching his grandfather help advise the king of Corellia, went to the best primary school and secondary school, was trained at the best military academy for officers...while he had it good as far as school choices went he didn't have it easy. Coming from a family such as his a lot was expected of him in school and training and he was always pushed to perform beyond expectations. This wasn't to say he necessarily minded, however. Kovus enjoyed being an overachiever...most of the time, anyway. When he graduated it was with honors and the ability to pilot a fighter, the latter being the much more 'cool' of the two. In fact, he was a regular hotshot flyboy and he loved it. It certainly brought him attention from the ladies, and his wife Sara was one of them. It wasn't always easy being 'new blood' among his particular family when it came to finding love, or getting attention, but with dedication and hard work it seemed to work out for Kovus. He was stationed on a cruiser that saw its fair share of combat against pirates and raiders along the edges of the system and along the space lanes that were heavier in cargo transport movement. It was during one of these dogfights that he earned his bloodstripes, having pursued several targets trying to flee down to the planet below. While he had managed to get two of the three the third one shot him down before his wingman could get to them. All of those who attempted to resist or get away were apprehended or killed that day, leading to a success of the mission. Still, with Sara (now his wife) pregnant the situation drove home the need for a change in position. He started seeking out command positions on cruisers that kept closer to home. While these weren't the most interesting or exciting positions to fill, the captain was able to reassure his wife, and be there for the birth of his two children, Aunna and Jade, so it was an acceptable trade off. Over all the years were good to the man and his family, his wife was...happy enough....his children were quick and clever learners and growing into fine people, and he worked hard enough to earn himself the title of admiral by the point he retired. Of course, this didn't mean he wasn't still working. He had taken up an advisory position in the palace off and on once his father had passed on, prompting the retirement. The turmoil of his son's "defection" from Republic to Empire, followed closely by his daughter's supposed traitorism, had been the beginning of a rough set of years for the man. King Solosten, Rook, had come to their aid, however...Aunna's at least. There was nothing that could be done for Jade, it seemed. Even once Aunna had been cleared, however, he didn't see or hear much from her, and it nearly tore him and his marriage apart. Things had been strained between him and Sara for quite some time, but he wasn't one to let that sort of thing come to light easily. Of course, Aunna did show up again, and with two beautiful children of her own. Vex's children, as the case was. He still isn't sure how to feel about that even to this day. It wasn't long after their reappearance that the trouble stemming from King Rook's decision to open the planet and system fully to refugees found its way to him, either. Over a long few conversations it became clear that Rook planned to step down from the throne, and Kovus' sense of duty to the planet and its people had him considering the the idea of taking on the empty title in a peaceful transfer of power, rather than allowing for a power vacuum to send the planet (at least) into further turmoil, however, given his family's all-to-recent brush with having 'traitors' for children (and given the fact that Jade still appeared to be one) the idea was a non-starter. Still, he does what he can to aid the Crown (whoever it may be) in matters of naval tactics and combat. |
