The droid’s brain give it a rudimentary, animal-like self-awareness of a semi-sentient degree, and though they can operate independently, the droids most often take the role of loyal mounts or beasts of burden to direction-giving Mandalorians, and have to be powered up or shut down externally in a process that takes seconds. Basilisk droids form powerful empathetic relationships with their owners, and are treated reverently by the culture . The bodies of Basilisk droids are armored and often designed according to their clan origins and personal taste of the owner. Mandalorians, who can control the beast-like droids from saddles atop the Basilisks, are known to garnish their mounts with a personalized assortment of their choosing be it tools, artwork, weapons or equipment.  Function Since the Reclamation Crusades have come to a close, the bes’uliik have made a full return to the Mandalorian culture. Used as beasts of burden, mounts, and some even as pets, the great machines have been instrumental in the rebuilding of Mandalorian worlds. While some still choose to utilize them as combat droids, this has fallen into the minority over the more domesticated versions. All are programmed for defense, and war, should they be needed. The more common weapons associated with the droid include shockwave generator rods, medium laser cannons, pulse-wave cannons, shatter-missile launchers, proximity mines, and whatever else the owner chooses to add. Basilisk droids operate effectively on the ground, in the air, or in the vacuum of space, and sensor clusters located at the fore and aft of the war droid allow the Basilisk to detect from all directions. On the ground, Basilisk droids are typically slow and lumbering, but could move at faster speeds when required. In the air, the Basilisk's rear armored wing plates—typically tucked against their bodies while at rest- would lift up to expose a set of high-boost engines which allows the Basilisk droid to fly at speeds up to 550 kilometers per hour. However, while the war droid could reach great speeds, it is slow to turn, weighed down by its armor, and without the stabilizer fins at the tip of the droid's tail section, a Basilisk in flight was hard to control. *Credit to wookieepedia page linked above |
