Allies • Galactic Republic Ecology The Mythix are a six-limbed humanoid species originating from Mythine one of the lunar bodies in orbit around the gas giant Yulline in the Ranthyline system. Female Mythix are taller and leaner than their male counterparts typically standing between 5'9" and 7' with an average weight ranging between 130lbs and 230lbs and typically have carapaces and fur in vibrant colors ranging from whites to blue and purples. Males are shorter typically growing no taller than 6'5", but their frames are significantly stockier than females and large males weigh as much as 300lbs. Unlike the females, male Mythix are typically more drab colored commonly possessing carapaces in shades of grey and brown with brighter markings ranging from red to blue. Mythix both male and female possess two pairs of arms with the second pair attached to a noticeable bulge on the entities back. Their bodies are covered by a thick rubbery psudeo-carapace made of material similar to human cartilage spaces not covered by theses cartilaginous plates are covered in thin typically soft skin. Additionally, they possess soft downy fur covering their heads, neck, and backs with a shorter thinner layer covering much of their arms and legs. Despite their insectile appearance Mythix are vertebrates with a fairly traditional calcium-based bone structure including forty vertebrae and a lightweight skull. Both male and female Mythix have large feathered antenna just above their large solid eyes. Females have smaller jaws compared to males as well as longer head flaps and a longer thinner abdominal tail, but the most obvious difference other than coloration and build of males and females is the lack of breast analogs on males. The long Abdominal tail houses the species reproductive organs as well as a significant amount of fat reserves otherwise most of the species internal organs are broadly analogous to human organs with two large sac lungs like those found in birds, as well as a large heart. Mythix lack any organs analogous to a nose and breath either from their mouths or a series of small pores on their backs and upper chest. Mythix are omnivores and while they have moved to a diet high in grains unlike their ancestors they still derive much of their dietary needs from plant sources. They primarily feed on fruits and berries which they supplement with vegetables and small amounts of animal tissue. Most mythix only rarely eat meat most commonly fish though occasionally bird and insect analogs are eaten as well. Only in the last thousand years has widespread air travel and larger safer ships allowed meat to be a widely available commodity. Females give birth to a single infant after ten months of gestation. Young Mythix are born without the hard dental plates of adults and are nursed typically for three to four years by their mothers. These honey like secretions are high in fat and sugar leading to infants nearly doubling in size in every four to five months for their first two years of life. As the infants mature their dental plates begin to harder and soft foods are introduced to them to supplement their food supply from their mothers. Infants typically learn to talk by the age of five and walk around the time they are weaned at around four years of age. Mythix children typically live with their parents directly up until their early twenties when they reach sexual maturity around twenty-two to twenty-four years of age. Mythix are not considered adults until their twenty-eight birthday, however. Mythix are physically incapable of speaking basic and their own language consists of a plethora of pheromones signals mixed with whistles, hums, and clicks, however, all mythix are at least weakly force sensitive and supplement this with light force telepathy. Because of this when around alien species the Mythix relies on force telepathy to communicate and many have begun to do so even on Mythix exclusion worlds including their homeworld. They also use the force to supplement their keen daylight vision and powerful sense of smell, however, mythix are virtually blind at night without assistance and rely on small ear openings behind and below their eyes which limits their hearing capabilities. The Mythix are a slow aging race taking nearly thirty years to fully mature and possessing an average lifespan of nearly four hundred and fifty years. Aged Mythix are identifiable by their decreased fatty deposits and dull coloration and decrease in the flexibility of their psudo-carapace. Culture The Mythix although not a hive species are quite communal young mythix typically live with their parents as well as upwards of dozen individual adults and pair bonds along with their children. The groups are typically made of close friends and near relatives as well as their bond mates. Children are normally homeschooled communally for the first five to six years of their life before they are sent to government-organized schools. Slow to develop physically Mythix remain in schools into their mid-twenties and are typically expected to stay with their family groups at least into their mid-thirties. A post-industrial world reliant on automated manufacturing most Mythix are employed as supervisors and technicians for the races large drone workforces both on the planet and in the void. Mythix architecture and engineering is deceptively fragile-looking typically being quite light with buildings often being made in the form of tall glittering interconnected towers rising high above the ground. These thin towers and almost skeletal buildings are made from the same crystal material that covers the three to four hundred foot tall crystal Arsoon trees light, resilient, and impressively strong this organic crystal named Illnia makes up the majority of Mythix building materials even off of Vemmi and also is the species primary export product. Additional exports include several of Mythine's battery of colorful often nearly sickeningly sweet fruits and mineral wealth from the species many orbital and asteroid mining and refining industry. The first things most visitors will notice about a mythix city are the glittering reflective lights and bright vibrant colors either in the form of the clothing that the mythix wear or the often huge tapestries hung on the exterior and interior of their crystal spires and draped around door frames and entrances. This observation will typically quickly followed by the thin hallow whispering of wind through the spires and what many humans find to be an unnerving vibration in the air created by thousands of miles of Illnia vibrating and an infrasound cacophony and species with very sensitive hearing are adviced to avoid large Mythix settlements. If they decide to remain within their city for a protracted period of time republic attache's recommended visitors bring a supply of their own food. While edible and easily available the mythix natural fondness and historical reliance on fruits have left their cuisine extraordinarily sweet to the point of being nearly unpalatable to humans and species less able to convert or deal with high sucrose levels are warned away from indulging. Traditional Mythix garb consists of light loose garb typically in the form of wide short-sleeved tunics or short dresses. These garbs are typically stained what many sentiments would find obnoxiously vibrant colors and often decorated with a variety of colored crystal embellishments as well as various forms of jewelry. The exception to this is the Mythix from the cold hostile continent of Uvline where heavy snow and harsh subzero temperatures force the locals into multiple layers of the body and head covering clothing along with large water repellant ponchos and typically protective facial gear. Their armor and environmental suits typically consist of a flexible lower torso and combined helmet and upper torso with no head articulation. Mythix's presence outside of their own colonial sphere of influence is limited, however, mythix out in the wider universe although rare are not unheard. Mythix is known for highly skilled aerospace, cyber, and robotics engineers which have seen a not insignificant demand from larger galactic industrial firms. Additionally, the Mythix typical affinity for high altitudes, keen eyesight, and multiple strong grasping limbs have made them excellent at tasks requiring intense observation, and strong climbing skills. Their continent of Vemmi and it's early archipelago colonies lacked large predatory land animals and relative abundance combined with the Mythix slow reproductive rate staunched much of their possible early development of martial traditions. Still, over time the small number of spear-armed Mythix who normally hunted the continents deer and dog-sized prey and joined to the coast to hunt many of the warm sea's large sea beasts came to be something in-between a hunter, town guard, and knight and even with modern Mythine's small planetary defense force and auxiliary militias the spear-wielding sea dancers still serve as a military core to an otherwise remarkably peaceful species. The Yulinne Protectorate also maintains a small naval force made up of small short ranged patrol gunships and numerous small hyperspace cutters comparable in size to a small frigate or heavy corvette. History The Mythix originated on Vemmi the large temperate landmass in Mythine's southern hemisphere nestled within the vast interior Ulmik forests. Their home world's powerful storms and hazardous aquatic life forms combined with the Mythix own biological difficulty swimming led directly to the species limited preindustrial colonization of their world. Only a small number of brave or crazy mythix managed to establish colonies on islands typically less than a weeks journey from Vemmi. Trips from these small outposts in the hostile seas and Vemmi were few and far between for the first millennium of Mythix written history. It wasn't until the development of the species first practical lighter than air vehicles nearly three thousand years ago that travel too and from these island outposts and more importantly commerce and information exchange became feasible. Still, while these airships allowed semi-reliable connection to far-flung colonies around Vemmi the relative delicateness inherent to lighter than aircraft and Mythine strong and difficult to predict weather patterns made trips of more than a few days unsustainably hazardous and without way stations journeys of more than a few thousand kilometers were rarely taken up and typically ended either in the deaths or stranding of the intrepid explorers and daredevils. Over the following centuries, the Mythix developed large heavier than air vehicles and developed ways to build large durable ships able to withstand Mythines harsh difficult to predict weather and the sea's large and dangerous predators. This development eventually led to the slow colonization of Oneria the planet's large equatorial continent this colonization lead to a flood of development as the Mythix gained access to resources both mineral and natural unavailable on Vemmi including the Xoian cow-like animals that became the first large herbivore domesticated by the Mythix. This did eventually lead to Mythix first and so far only global war when the colonies of Oneria demanded independence from the collective council in far away Vemmi five centuries after its colonization. Despite being largely a cold war hundreds of thousands of Mythix died over the hundred and forty year conflict in the sporadic air and sea engagements. Eventually, as Elder council power waned in Vemmi the Council with through the claim effectively accepting the Oneria Coalition as an independent state. This conflict also eventually lead to the settlement of Ulvine and it's surrounding islands as small unaligned settlements were squeezed by both parties some choose to pick up and sail beyond their reach eventually settling in the geologically active areas of the fridged continent where hot springs and thermal vents were common. Eventually establishing the Vinu League a largely mercantile alliance of Ulvine city-states after the war. In the long run, the settlement of Ulvine would be a major boon to the Mythix people as a whole as many previously rare ores existed in immense deposits around the more geologically continent and with time despite its harsh conditions Ulvine overtook Vemmi as the Mythix species economic and industrial heart. Well into their industrial age by this point the Mythix slowly began moving into the stars starting with the chemical powered rockets and low orbit development. Interest-driven largely in Oneria and the Vemmi Republic led to the Mythix forming their first lunar and asteroid mining facilities on the scattered moons and captured stones cluttering Yulline's orbit in under a century of the species first orbital flights. Eventually, the Republic began the construction of the Ai'Ne Spire; the vast megastructure primary purpose was to link Vemmi to a planned network of orbital solar farms and production facilities via a vast orbital elevator. By the time the final nano thread cables were installed two centuries later, Ai'Ne was the largest structure on Mythine. The orbital elevator allowed for the production of much larger ships to be efficiently constructed high in orbit. Soon the first extraplanetary colonies were settled Kintia on of the large moons of Em'ia. Though Kintia was only borderline hospitable it's biological and mineral value made its worthwhile to settle the hazy lichen encrusted planet. Other moons of Em'ia and the barren small rocky world of Yie soon had their own permeate mining facilities and smaller imitations of Mythine's orbital elevator. This era of expansion led to two major developments the first being the discovery that at some point other species and passed by or through the Ranthyline system as prospectors found twisted metal and other artifacts clearly forged by sentient hands as they pushed farther and farther out to the edges of the system. The second was spurred in part by these discoveries was the formation of the Ranthyline Union a political, military, and economic alliance of the splintered coalitions and city-states that dotted Mythine and her nascent colonies. Three hundred years ago the Mythix made the discovery that thrust them into the universe at large when a mining survey team discovered the Leviathan of Il'Iem on the cold icy world that gave it it's named on the very edge of the system. The Leviathan was the remains of a larger warship the remains of some long forgotten war that gouged a long deep furrow across the planetoid as the crippled machine came to rest. While much of the ship was missing or ruined beyond the recognition much of the rear of the ship was still intact and contained a treasure trove to technology including, most importantly, a functional if primitive hyperdrive. It took sixty years and more than a few years, but researchers eventually managed to reverse engineer most of the alien components found on the shattered ship. The Mythix had known for some time that there was an inhabited world in the nearby Kallix system and construction on a generational ship had commenced at the Ai'Ne shipyard before the program was dropped with the discovery of the leviathan the new hyperspace system which could cut the ninety light-year trip to the Kallix system down to the span of a short few months brought renewed attention to the decades-old derelict hull. Though it took nearly a decade the hulk was completed and had the till then most advanced hyperdrive ever built why the insectoid people installed it along with a small fleet including a few of the still rare hyperdrive warships of the Ranthyline defense fleet left for the Kallix system with nearly ten thousand souls spread across the colony ship and support ships latched to the few hyperdrive capable ships. The journey and arrival at the system were uneventful and the lush world of Itiex with its lushly forested plateaus and deep river canyons was surprisingly close to Mythine's environment albeit with the settlers needing to keep an eye out for a host of new diseases, predators, and new allergens. Despite the typical dangers and difficulties of planetary colonization construction of the first domed city on Itiex proceeded at a rapid pace and was nearly completed when the first contact came. Like many first contacts, this was unplanned and unexpected and unfortunately it like many before it went poorly. The survey flotilla hard hardly anticipated a fleet of ships to be in orbit over a world well past the borders of the republic and the Mythix for there part hadn't considered the effect their force augmented form of communication would have on non-force sensitive species, something that was completely unknown to the force sensitive people. Unfortunately when the mythix reached through the force to communicate with the crews on the survey vessels the garbled messages and images projected against their minds were believed to be an attack and as several small mythix patrol boats neared the fleet the crew on the ships fired at the ships. Small and poorly shielded the primitive ships made mostly for police duties evaporated under the fleets fire. At that point, the Mythix panicked and the flotilla was met with a hail of gunfire from the fleet while the small magnetic accelerators and laser systems onboard most of the mythix ships barely depleted the fleet's shields they beat a hasty retreat when they came under turbolaser fire from the three new capital ships in orbit. The flotilla reported the incident to the republic when they limped into the Corellia shipyards several weeks later. Several months later a republic force consisting of a few diplomats and an escorting military force along with a small contingent of Jedi entered the system. What they found was the entirety of the Union's hyperspace fleet and dozens of hastily erected orbital platforms at various states of completion. While not aggressive the Mythix fleet's response to the arrival of the republic contact team was to cluster into defensive positions. Attempts at communication by the republic were initially fruitless and the alien vessels didn't respond to any of the normal communication methods. It wasn't until a Jedi consular on board reached out through the force in an attempt to determine the intentions of the aliens that contact was made. While still messy and occasionally disjointed the Jedi were able to make sense of most of the messages furiously sent to them by dozens of the insectile people. Though it took time the Mythix were eventually willing to meet with Republic diplomats with the Jedi serving as intermediaries. They met aboard the Glittering Dawn while little more than an overgrown frigate the ship represented the peak of their military and technological development. Discussions aboard the ship in the large cavernous central space that served as the crew quarters were actually quite short with the meeting carrying the tone more of an academic investigation than a diplomatic meeting. it was eventually agreed that the diplomatic team would travel to Mythine under an escort of a single mythix and republic warship. The meeting on Mythine was substantially longer with elders from across the union gathered at Ai'Ne surrounded by hundreds of the ancient matriarchs and patriarchs of the Mythix the negotiations had slowed to a crawl derailed at times by unrelated academic questions or the flaring of centuries-old rivalries between kith. After many weeks of slow deliberation and meetings with the council as a whole and with individual councilors the group finally came to a simple agreement were the republic would recognize the Union's existing space and the Jedi and republic would provide the Mythix assistance in integrating with the galaxy. Over the last one hundred and eighty years, this original arrangement has bloomed into a full-on if one-sided alliance between the Mythix people and the republic so much so that in recent decades the Union has been making a push to become full members of the Galatic Republic.
