Appearance Height & Weight • 6'2", 230 lbs Overall Looks • Keelen has the blue skin typical of his race, though his, specifically, is a bright "arctic" blue; his hair is pure black, without any of the bluish hue possessed by many other Chiss. As is typical of a martial personality, Keelen keeps his hair cut short, especially along the sides of his head and the nape of his neck. He's one of the rare Chiss with the ability to grow facial hair, though his is regulated to his cheeks, chin, and upper-lip; on occasion, when he's been in the field for long periods of time, he can grow something of a beard (it grows very, very slowly, though - it would take Keelen months to grow what a human male might have within a 24-hour period. It also grows very sparsely, so it takes even longer for Keelen to grow what could be considered a "full" beard). The only skin that Keelen ever shows is his hands (and even then, usually only his fingers, as he almost always wears finger-less gloves), his face, and his arms from wrist to bicep; as a result, one might make the mistake that he has flawless skin. However, he bears considerable scarring on his upper body (chest, back, shoulders) and even along the back of his legs and upper arms - silent witnesses to the brutality of his time as a slave. An observant individual, though, would be able to spot a raised tattoo on the inside of his right forearm - another hint to the slavery Keelen endured. This is the one hint of his past that Keelen allows to be publicly seen - though, more for his own benefit than for anyone else. It serves to remind him of what he "has conquered". Keelen's style is very Chiss - which is to say, rather minimalist. He's not into the flashy, intricate costumes of many other Sith (and especially not robes or cloaks). He prefers a simple, almost uniform-like style of utilitarian pants, close-fitting, short-sleeved shirt, and black boots. When he's being "fancy", he'll wear a black tunic, cinched at the waist with a belt. His style is reminiscent of his uniform as a Chiss officer; the only color to his ensemble is that of the Cult of Strife, which he wears usually as a band across his right bicep (when wearing his tight-fitting shirt), or as its symbol on the stiff, straight collar of his more formal tunics. If it weren't for his twin lightsabers ever-present at his hips, one would not immediately identify Keelen as a Sith - which is precisely how he likes it. Personality Profile Keelen is the classic INTJ - cool, aloof, strategically-and-tactically-minded, driven, independent...and deceptively passionate. Keelen is constantly battling two sides of himself, which is represented in his choice for lightsaber crystal colors. On one (the left) hand, he's a credit to his species: highly confident, decisive, analytical, and intellectual. One the other (right) hand, he has a surprising depth of passion (particularly anger), sarcasm, loyalty (once thoroughly earned), and loneliness. It's this dichotomy that makes Keelen good at what he does as a military leader - he isn't blinded by blood lust, vendetta, or cruelty (as long slavers aren't involved in the equation), and yet he's able to draw incredible perseverance and power from his emotions (again, most particularly his anger). Background Father • Inrok'ori'sabosen (Koris), 57, Aristocra and head of House Inrok (an off-shoot of House Inrokini), a judge (criminal tribunals) Mother • Inrok'or'ath (Kora), 55, Aristocra and co-head of House Inrok, a lawyer (civil tort law) Siblings • Inrok'eer'ina (Keera); Merit Adoptive sister, 28, Syndic, politician representing House Inrok's interests (think lobbyist) Other Important Connections •
Overall History • 1-10: Keelen's childhood was quite normal for a Chiss - schooling, schooling, and more schooling. There was just one major exception: his horrified mother watched him levitate a jar of sweets at the age of three, after she had placed it on a shelf where he couldn't reach it. In the grand scheme of things, Keelen's Force Sensitive abilities were a little "late" to exhibit themselves, but the truth finally came out. As his parents' only blood-born child, his parents agreed between themselves to hide his Force Sensitivity, since he only exhibited his power in front of his mother and not publicly (which would have resulted in execution [see: Chiss and the Force subsection]). Koris used his connections to obtain medical suppressants for Keelen's "affliction" - but they had side-effects that manifested throughout his childhood as migraines; they also suppressed his emotions (over and above what Chiss society would have as a matter of course). Keelen grew up knowing that he was different, as his "medication" had to be taken consistently, and it developed within him a simmering resentment and even fear. Outwardly, however, he excelled in his studies and was accepted into the prestigious Chiss Academy on a military track. At 10, he was accepted as a junior officer into the Colonial Phalanxes. Again, Koris manipulated Keelen's life path, and was able to influence his son's placement into the Copero Colonial Phalanx, so that he could remain close to the family's influence (and continuing suppression of his Force Sensitivity). Keelen was never directly told that his father had pulled strings, but he suspected it and began to harbor a deep resentment against his family's interference in his life and career. Thanks to his familial and societal expectations, and the medical side-effects, he was never able to truly channel those emotions, or even really acknowledge them except at a subconscious level. 10-20: At 12, Keelen met his future wife during a brief stint back at the Academy for extra training in tactical theory, which was required for promotion. At 13, he was promoted to Lieutenant; at 15, he and Theena married. Keelen's military career was on a promising trajectory and at 18, he was promoted to Commander and placed in charge of the Copero Phalanxes' 3rd Battalion. Over time, however, he realized that his suppressants were also inhibiting his ability to connect emotionally to Theenas and also to physically...perform his marital "duties". Both of them desperately wanted a child, so Keelen began to secretly ween himself off of his "medicine". Things went well for a while - he was old enough and had been chemically suppressing his Sensitivity long enough that he was able to keep a "handle on things". At 19, Theena finally conceived, and Kyri was born a month before Keelen turned 20. Fatherhood, however, came with a surprising number of emotions - emotions that Keelen had never experienced before, much less controlled. Things finally fell apart when Kyri was just shy of a year old, just after Keera's ceremony joining her to House Inrok as a Merit Adoptive daughter. The family was enjoying a celebration at one of Copero's many outdoor restaurants/event venues - it was a private affair, restricted to just other members of the House (about 50 members total). Kyri - an inquisitive child and just learning to walk - wandered out of arms reach of her parents to investigate her surroundings. Said investigation involved her trying to toddle over one Copero City's many small bridges. Something caught her attention, however, and she strayed too close to the open railing at the very apex of the bridge's arch. Keelen finally noticed what his daughter was up to as she tipped too far over and started falling into the swiftly-moving stream below. Instinctively, he stood up and reached out his hand - and stopped her fall from several feet away from her. Immediately horrified by what he had done, Keelen at least had the presence of mind to gently pull her back toward him and safety. He was only able to keep control of the Force long enough to bring Kyri to the bank, but it was long enough for the damage to be done - he had exhibited his Force abilities in front of multiple witnesses. Nevertheless, he had done so only in front of other members of House Inrok - which meant that his father was able, again, to spare his son's life. He was able to have his son exiled, under the pretense that Keelen had privately, but irrevocably, dishonored the House. With such wording, he was able to circumvent a more public examination of what had happened, and also explain why a commander of the Phalanx abruptly disappeared. 20-30: Keelen was exiled to a planet that was just close enough to Wild Space to be eventually discovered by a rather questionable Zabrak named Krugo. The planet was a favorite spot of Kruga's to lay low when his slaving activities drew too much attention from interests that strongly disagreed with his career choices. Kruga befriended Keelen - who had not been faring particularly well on his own and was therefore more vulnerable to an influence utterly alien to him. Kruga convinced Keelen to leave the planet with him, and they headed toward Nar Shadda, where the Zabrak claimed that Keelen would have a much easier time making a living for himself and quite possibly find the means to build back his life. However, Kruga had no intention of letting such an "exotic" individual like Keelen go - when Krugo took Keelen to have an audience with Iimi the Hutt (under the pretense of helping Keelen find employment), the trap was sprung. Keelen was sold to Iimi - though he didn't go down without a considerable fight, in which he managed to kill Iimi's majordomo and Krugo. He was eventually subdued, however...and Iimi's retaliation was swift. Keelen spent the next two years in a private hell - initially, Iimi tried to offer him as a "pleasure" slave to some of his more affluent customers, but after multiple complaints of Keelen's chilly resistance and after he bit one of said clients in a fairly vulnerable spot, Iimi switched tactics (after having Keelen rather brutally, and publicly, beaten). Keelen was handed over to a human, Jargith, who used Keelen for heavy labor, and also as an object for Jorgith to take out his more sadistic predilections. At 23, Keelen was discovered - and subsequently rescued - by a Sith Lord named Talai, who had been operating on Nar Shadda and on the hunt herself for other Force Sensitives and potential acolytes. Jorgith had recently decided to employ Keelen as a gladiator of sorts and Lord Talai, who had attended the fight on a hunch, was impressed with both his ferocity and very raw (but distinctive) power in the Force. She freed Keelen under the pretense of buying him - deciding at that time to spare Jorgith as a focus for Keelen's anger as she cultivated his Sith potential. Once in private, Lord Talai revealed to Keelen his freedom - on the condition that he go to Korriban and take up studies as a Sith acolyte. Keelen accepted her challenge without a second thought - quite possibly the first purely emotion-fueled decision he had made in his entire life (consciously, anyway). For the next couple of years, Keelen applied himself with single-minded determination to the grueling, and dangerous, training of a Sith acolyte. At 25, Talai returned to Korriban as Darth Viscera, of the Cult of Strife, and took him on as her apprentice. For the next five years, Keelen traveled to battlefields across the galaxy - in the beginning at Darth Viscera's side, and then slowly toward more and more independent missions. He distinguished himself as a formidable fighter and an excellent leader (who simultaneously intimidated and inspired the human Imperial troops he was put in charge of). Over time, as he became more independent and closer toward the possibility of becoming a Sith Lord, he became Viscera's lover (though, their affairs, such as they were, were casual in nature. In many ways, Viscera used that attachment between them as a teaching tool, to further Keelen's ability to overcome his years of emotional suppression and cultural up-bringing, and also to counter-balance any lingering knee-jerk prejudices against humans - a predjudice that could easily become a major downfall for him in the human-dominated Empire.) At 29, she sent Keelen on a series of quests that culminated in him confronting and killing Iimi's entire cartel. Keelen killed Jorgith in a particularly brutal (and distinctly un-Chiss) manner and at that point, Darth Viscera deemed him worthy of standing before the other members of the Cult of Strife for consideration for ascension to a Lord of the Sith. A year into being a Lord in his own standing, Darth Viscera asked him to accompany her on one final mission. In the course of that, a skirmish with the Republic claimed Keelen's former master's life and he finally stood alone in his own power. 30-present: Keelen has devoted himself whole-heartedly to his role as a Sith Lord. He doesn't wear his passion on his sleeve, though, and that surprises many who encounter him (enemy and ally, alike). In fact, Keelen has a secret contempt for more...outwardly aggressive...Sith and thinks that those who allow themselves to be wholly (or largely) ruled by their passion, are idiots. Becoming a Sith has provided him with pride in himself again - though, in the quiet darkness of the occasional night, he misses his wife and daughter (as it stands, he has no love lost for his parents, though the more rational part of his nature understands that his parents' manipulations and "medical intervention" are what kept him alive). He also misses Talai/Viscera, as she held quite a significant place in his life as savior, teacher, and lover. As he's grown older and more settled in the life of a Sith, Keelen's managed to tap more strongly and more immediately into his emotions and his connection to the Force - though, he also accepts that his more cerebral Chiss-ness is inseparable from who he is. For a Sith, Keelen surprisingly strives (perhaps unconsciously so) for balance between the dual natures within him. However, it should be noted that he is quite undeniably Sith, no matter how balanced he might otherwise appear - anger and fear fuel his power and he most certainly wields the Force as a weapon (a "may the Force serve you" mentality, versus "may the Force be with you"). The only "triggers" Keelen might outwardly express are Zabraks and Hutts (he is unabashedly prejudiced against them both) and slavers (he'll happily kill any unlucky enough to fall into his path). Politically, Keelen doesn't really hold any sort of strong personal emotions toward the Republic, though he would consider himself loyal to the Empire, until-death-do-him-part. The democracy of the Republic baffles him to the point of personal disdain and the order/structure of the Imperial hierarchy is familiar to him as a Chiss. Not to mention, he has plenty of emotional ties to the Empire at this point - after all, it was a Sith Lord who found him and it was the Republic that killed her. On the military side of things, Keelen has found himself working almost exclusively with the Imperial Navy. He currently commands an Imperial Navy Special Forces platoon, stationed on the star destroyer Revenant*, currently patrolling the edge of Sith space near Ord Mantell. Finally, in recent months, Keelen has been considering the possibility of an apprentice in his future - though he's merely keep a casual eye out and not actively searching for such at this time. * So named by Flashfyr |
