Kar'eth Tav'zra Full Name • Kar'eth Tav'zra (first name pronounced: "Car-eth") Nickname • "Kar" Race • Mirialan Birthplace • On board the Republic medship, the Mercy, in Coruscanti space Age • 25 Gender • Male Sexuality • Bi Faction • Republic Concept • Agent, SIS Languages • Basic, Mirialan, Huttese; currently trying to learn Sy Bisti and Ryl (latter's not going too well for him...) Assets • A two-room apartment in Coronet City, Corellia; a collection of vibroblades (about five in total); chest armor (the kind that's worn underneath clothes, like police body armor); a cherry red Fire speeder bike (Kar's pride and joy). Appearance Height & Weight • 5'11", 195 lbs. Overall Looks • Kar'eth's skin is a smooth shade of olive - green, with just a hint of yellow to it. He has bright blue eyes and short-cropped, sandy-brown hair that's barely a few shades darker than his skin. He has twin tattooed lines from along the top of his cheekbones to the corners of his mouth, and vertical geometric tattoos down his forehead to between his eyebrows, and then up his chin beneath his bottom lip. The placement of his tattoos give Kar's a face very pleasing sort of symmetry, which (at least in his own personal experience) seems to make him quite popular with the ladies (and in some cases, the fellas, too). He has the beginnings of what he hopes will be an extensive 'sleeve' on his left arm; both shoulders are tattooed, as well as his chest. Kar might not be the tallest man, but he carries himself with a sort of confidence that's head-turning. Like all Mirialans, Kar isn't able to grow any hair except on the top of his head, so his perpetual clean-shaven appearance makes him look just a hair younger than he really is. All in all, Kar'eth is a good-looking man...and he knows it. His clothing style, though, is far more utilitarian than one might expect. Having lived as a spacer for the majority of his life, Kar'eth is actually most comfortable in sensible working pants (the kind with lots of pockets) and/or mechanic-or-pilot-style coveralls. He does tend to choose shirts that are just a wee bit tight on him, usually accentuating his muscular chest and rather well-developed biceps. His footwear is also sensible - boots. Always boots. He doesn't really care for a flashy wardrobe - no cloaks, or shiny materials. Kar'eth isn't afraid of a bit of color, however, and has a bit of a penchant for brightly-colored tunics/shirts (electric blue being a particularly favored shade). For the most part, Kar'eth lets his swagger-like gait and over abundance of confidence to say the most about him, as opposed to his fashion sense. Personality Profile Kar'eth is an ESTP, all the way. Most beings' first impression of him is warm and enthusiastic. He lives in the moment, but has the ability to become very passionate and excited about things. Kar's natural enthusiasm lends him the ability to inspire and motivate others...when he feels like doing so. He can talk his way in or out of anything (or, so he thinks, anyway). In short, Kar'eth loves life - seeing it as a special gift - and he strives to make the most out of it. Kar'eth does have a bit of a dark side, though...which comes through in his past and his current choice of profession. There's a large part of Kar'eth's psyche that feels like he has to atone for his teenage rebellion, and for the dishonor that he feels that he cast on his family in his youth. He's also rather good at manipulating people, from his years working in the Corellian underworld - a useful trait for a spy. He has a quick wit and can think on his feet. However, Kar is driven by his principles...and coming from a family enmeshed in the Republic military, his ideals are decidedly biased in favor of the Republic's dominance in the galaxy at large. Kar dislikes the Empire and flat-out hates the Sith; as a result, he has gladly dedicated his particular gift with manipulating situations and others to the Republic's best interests. This (and his almost reactive need to "redeem" himself) has made him a little blind toward his employer's faults - and it's not entirely unlikely that the SIS will end up manipulating Kar himself. Strengths: +Bold; +Rational and surprisingly practical; +Perceptive; +Sociable Weaknesses: +Has a tendency to be impatient; +Defiant, when his ideals/morality is challenged (this doesn't exactly help him in his military setting); +Risk-taker (this can be both a strength and a weakness, really); +Has difficulty expressing his own feelings, though he's very aware of others') Background Father • I'dar Tav'zra, 64, pilot/contract 'privateer' for the Republic (retired) Mother • Ar'kah Tav'zra, 59, Republic fighter pilot (retired) Siblings •
Other Important Connections • Korbin Tharen, 66, Jedi Master/Watchman, former "handler"; Koli Laasel, 38, spice smuggler/underworld "boss", former employer and lover. Overall History • 1-10: Kar'eth's childhood was rather unremarkable, in the grand scheme of things. He spent most of his time with his father while growing up, since his mother was almost always out on deployment with the Republic Navy. In fact, most of the child-raising fell to I'dar - who was quite good at it. The life of a privateer's child, however, was never boring and Kar was a curious child, prone to adventures and misadventures alike. Of all the Tav'zra children, Kar was most like his father in personality, so the two were always very close. Even as a small child, I'dar would take Kar'eth out with him into the various towns, spaceports, and so forth that they visited and Kar was usually present for most of his father's brokering. By the time he was 10, Kar could negotiate contracts like a pro and had an ability to read other beings (even non-humanoid ones) better than most adults. 10-16: When Kar'eth was 11, I'dar decided to retire and settle the family down in a more a permenant situation. Ar'kah was close to retirement, too, and took a position as an instructor for new Republic fighter pilots on Corellia. The elder Tav'zra's were certain that providing "roots" for their five children was the best thing that could be done for them...but their youngest had other opinions about the matter. Training pilots required space...lots and lots of uncontested air space... Which meant that the Tav'zra's ended up settling down in a small town in the foothills of the Nomad Mountains. The abrupt change in lifestyle was a hard adjustment for young Kar to make. All his life, thus far, had been spent on the move, from planet to planet, system to system. There had always been new beings to meet, new adventures to be had, new places to explore at his father's side. The small Republic base and even smaller, adjacent town, was practically a nightmare to the gregarious and curious pre-teen. By the time he was 13, he had already been bailed out of trouble with the law multiple times - for picking fights outside of school, for being truant from school, for graffiti-ing alleyways and so forth, and for causing general "public disturbance." At 14, I'dar had to literally bail his son out of jail, when Kar'eth decided to take a friend's older brother's swoop bike out for a joyride - without permission - and subsequently crashed it. The close relationship between father and son became strained and Kar's rebellion only worsened as he got older. By the time he was 16, I'dar had had enough and in a fit of uncontrolled anger, he told his son to "quite disgracing the family" and to "just leave and don't come back!" Kar'eth, unfortunately, took his father's reckless words of frustration to heart...and did just that, dropping out of school and making his way to Coronet City without a backward glance. 16-20: Kar'eth's early childhood as a privateer's son had gifted him with the knowledge of where to go in Coronet City to look for work. However, his youth made him naive in many ways and it took mere weeks for him to catch the eye of a notorious independent spice trader named Koli Laasel. The Togrutan was no small player in the world of drug smuggling - she was also no stranger to the many intrigues of the underworld, nor was she above using her feminine wiles to get what she wanted. Having an eye for both good looks and talent, she easily courted Kar for her own interests. Within months of leaving home, Kar was well under the sway of his first employer, his first lover, and his first major mistake. Koli hid her spice-smuggling under more legitimate trade and Kar'eth was clueless for the first two years of him working for her as both hired muscle and contract negotiator. Needless to say, it was quite a shock for him to discover, at 18, that he had made a fatal error in judgment. This revelation came at the hands of the law...when Koli left Kar to take the blame for several kilos of smuggled spice discovered on board one of the several freight ships he managed for her. The next year found Kar doing time in a Republic prison (a significantly shorter period of time than was normally allotted to spice smugglers, though he didn't know it at the time) and then another two years working as a bouncer at a Corellian nightclub while on probation. By 20, Kar thoroughly hated his life - already branded a criminal, unwanted by most employers, and barely scraping by enough to afford his own minuscule apartment on one of the lowest levels of Coronet City. 20-25: It was, of all things, a Jedi who saved Kar'eth from himself. Naturally Force-Sensitive, as most Mirialans were, it took virtually no time at all for Kar's interest to get caught by an unusual character who started to become a regular of the nightclub he worked at. The older human man simply pinged something on Kar's radar, so to speak, though he couldn't put his finger on it at first. Little did he know that the old man was sizing him up as well over the course of several weeks. One night, Kar opened the door to his tiny apartment - and knew instantly that he wasn't alone. Still on probation, with just weeks left to go before being let off, Kar'eth didn't have a single weapon on him. So...he did what he did best, and immediately tried talking his way out of whatever potential situation he now found himself in. To his eternal consternation, the stranger in his home was none other than the strange human he'd been watching at the nightclub. The old man revealed that he was CorSec officer working undercover, on the trail of Koli Laasel and her growing monopoly on the spice trade in the Corellian system - a growing monopoly that was threatening to cause an abrupt eruption in underworld hostilities. Hostilities that could end up taking civilian and governmental casualties...literally and politically. Kar was offered a sizeable amount of money - more than enough to help him get his own ship and start a small business of his own, if he so chose - to go undercover on behalf of CorSec and quietly undermine Koli's operations. At first, Kar balked, but the officer swore that Kar'eth would have full immunity if he got caught in any law enforcement interference. He was also promised the old man's support, if necessary, if things got over the young Mirialan's head. Kar - desperate for a way out of his current situation - finally agreed. And so began a three-year-long operation on behalf of a CorSec operative who's name he didn't even know. It took time, but eventually, Kar won Koli's trust again and even managed to rise back to the level of a lieutenant in her newly burgeoning cartel. Just after his 23rd birthday, he was finally able to provide what he thought was his CorSec handler with enough information for the security forces to bust Koli's cartel wide open. Kar'eth got caught up in the sweep, but once in CorSec security, he met the old man again - who introduced himself as Korbin Tharen, Jedi Master and appointed Watchman of Corellia. Kar was then offered another deal "under the table" - enlistment in the Republic under the Strategic Information Service, or SIS. Kar's work undercover had so impressed those following his work - a mix of Republic military officials, Corellian officials, Jedi, and CorSec officers - that he was immediately pegged as the perfect candidate for espionage. Kar'eth, now eager not only to make money, to clear his name and his family's honor, accepted. For the next two years, he "disappeared" - assumed by all except those classified to know otherwise, to be in prison. Those two years were really spent training, both as a Republic officer and as an SIS operative. Then, at 25, he "reappeared" in Coruscant, where he continued undercover work within the Underworld cartels and gangs there. He won't stay there for long...SIS has plans for the young Mirialan, and they involve the Empire and a coming war, not work among the Galactic Fringe... |
