but everyone who watches it, loves it T_T They shouldve made it a Sci-Fi channel original series, it would be still be going Yeah, now they do, now that it's more readily available on DVD and become a cult classic. And... I'm not sure if the Sci-Fi channel was around when Firefly started. At least, not as popular as it is now... Firefly probably would have died quicker if it was on Sci-Fi.

Also, I think it has something to do with the fact that they screwed up the order in which the episodes aired. I mean, The Train Job was the first episode aired. Personally I'd have much preferred to have Serenity parts I and II to be shown first. Plus there were some others.
See why it's FOX's fault?
EDIT: Tal, can't agree more that Wash should be president. He's just the best.

The Train Job had to be brainstormed over the course of a weekend because FOX felt there wasn't enough "action" in the original pilot. It's the whole reason why it was aired out of order to begin with. There are moer than a few people that have voiced opinions stating that they caught The Train Job when it first aired and, while they liked the show, they kinda felt like they'd come into the middle of it, instead of the beginning.
It just didn't help you get to know the characters as well, understand them, or empathize. Sure, Mal looks like a badass kicking Crow into the engine, but without understanding Mal (which you would very well if they had seen the original Pilot first), his actions seem kind of callous and unfeeling.
And Sci Fi was around...had Farscape start up a couple seasons before that and was doing well enough to stick around for a good while, get mini movies, etc. Because Sci Fi was smaller and more focused, it didn't have to worry about getting the "network ratings" that Fox, CBS, NBC, etc, fight over. They can keep their head above water with less viewers.
Sci Fi took shows before, things like Stargate, which wouldn't have stayed afloat (HBO, I believe) and made them successful. Unfortunately, Sci Fi chose not to take Firefly on.
I'm very glad that enough support was garnered for the BDM, but as good as it was, it just couldn't tell the whole story. You could tell just in those 14 episodes that there was an entire tapestry of plot waiting to be woven...all the backstories for the characters, not just including Simon and River's.
Simply must wonder how it could have been, unfortunately.

drat...missed you.
but wait....the train job was aired as the pilot episode? yeah...that WAS a dumb move. *watched DVDs so Serenity was first*
makes much more sense with Serenity first, but i was hella confused with the titles. Looked at Jeremy and was like "erm....are you sure this is the right disc? Thought Serenity was the movie?? O.o"
lol

I loved the show so much, I remember watching every episode then I'd watch John Doe, when they cancelled Firefly, I had no reason to watch John Doe, and it got cancelled the shortly after, so I think I might not have been the only one doing that, lol
Anywho, Firefly was amazing, and Serenity only proved that further, the cast, amazing, the plot, epic, the jokes, HALArious...I hate you fox

Its not so much the idiots that don't watch, Tal : /
(Forgive me for the comparison)
Firefly sort of had the same effect that Star Trek went under. Ie: Star Trek didn't get popular until it was cancelled.
I will bet that someone will try and bring back firefly eventually, but it probably won't be with the same crew OR Serenity.

I've really got to watch this show and the movie. It's the only Sci-fi my GF will watch, but since she's already seen it she isn't interested in rewatching it usually, but tells me I need to watch it.
I haven't heard anything but good about it and I did see the first part of it. Guessing Serenity 1&2 since I got some back story, but I can't remember much of it. It seemed really awesome though. Was just watching it when I was really tired lead to low attention capacity.
Oh... and usually space sci-fi doesn't hit well on its first run. The only time it sticks around is when they 1) don't have anything to fill the slot and 2) can continue to produce it cheaply.
Exceptions apply if they happen to have a heavy weight name attached. (How many Star Trek series are there now?)
I think the big issue it them lies in a lot of people aren't hugely interested in new Sci-fi series as most people have difficulty relating to it. Look at the ones that are successful. They usually have some connection to a modern earth and work from there. When time is pushed ahead and there isn't much explanation as to how it got there they usually fizzle pretty quickly. Again established franchises tend to pull in a bit more and stick around. (All the animated Star Wars and the various Star Treks.)
Sci-fi is just generally more of a movie genre and I think the biggest reason is to fill in the blanks to get people acquainted with the basis of a sci-fi setting takes more than 30-45 minutes that a series is alloted.

Well...your girlfriend is salvageable if she likes this series. Awesome that she likes it.
I still hold by the fact that if they had shown the series as intended (starting with "Serenity 1 & 2"), it would have fared far better. Too many were confused by them starting with "The Train Job" and felt as though they had missed something. You really couldn't relate to the characters as well if you didn't see the original pilot.
Though, I do understand your view about the big names, etc. Sad really when people would rather mindless entertainment (ie: almost anything currently on television) over something that makes you think a bit.

I don't watch a whole lot of TV. There's just not enough good stuff on. CSI was cool the first time I saw it then every episode started following the same pattern. ("This was no accident.... this was... murder." Lead character puts his sunglasses on as the music sets in with Yeeeaaahhhhh.) Obvious script recycling, but it still got big enough that they made what... three spinoffs? Meanwhile original content gets the shaft because there isn't enough action so they artificially inject it and take away from the true concept. From what I remember it had a good mix of action, drama and creative concept. I guess the problem was likely that it was too creative.
