Welcome to the Galactic Arena!
This our relaunch of the old dueling section. We’ve decided to make it something with IC ties, to make the fights a little more interesting and allow some IC-ramifications. Any character is welcome to participate in duels.
Now, some ground rules:
Because the duels are IC, they are assumed to be non-lethal. Through the glory of some dubious techno-magic that just works, duelists who lose a certain number of “rounds” are rendered unconscious to end the fight. If you’ve played Knights of the Old Republic, you should be familiar with the concept.
Just as you can use whatever character you want, you can use whatever weapon you want for the duels. Lightsabers, guns, grenades, pointy sticks, whatever. We’re treating them as an arena-modified version that gets the effect across without murdering people.
With the launch of the arena, we’ve created a dueling category in our Discord server that will be used for rolling in moderated duels. We also have a Duel Challenges Thread that you can use to offer your character for duels or accept challenges. Once you've agreed to a duel you have two options:
Unmoderated Duels: The can be carried out between members without moderator supervision. They’re an opportunity to just write out a fight and have fun and decide what happens yourselves. Both participants must agree to participate in an unmoderated duel. Stat sheets are highly recommended, but not required, for these fights.
Moderated Duels: These fights will employ our new stat system. Character stat sheets are required for moderated duels. Once both members have set up a duel, a moderator will create a separate discord channel within the dueling section. There, both members will roll to determine who goes first. The first member will tell the moderator how they wish to proceed with an opening attack.
After that, every round that follows until the duel’s conclusion will allow each member to make a defense and attack. Members will tell the moderator what they wish to do for defense and attack, and the moderator will make a dice roll using character stats to determine their success. Some actions, such as buffing with the Body force ability, make take a full round. Members can then write out what happens. Every every two posts, the moderator will post roll results and the scores for the round.
While using the duel section, all of the same behavior you'd expect for a normal fight on the boards is expected. Be courteous to each other, don't powerplay, and have fun!

- Each successful attack is treated as a “point” and the first duelist to some predetermined number of points — the default is five — wins the duel. It is worth noting that moderators occasionally may grant +2 bonuses or -2 debuffs to rolls based on creativity or lack thereof, so do your best to make things interesting!
- For each roll, we use a number of d10 equivalent to the total number of attribute/skill points for the action your character is taking. We have a bot to handle the rolling under the hood, but each score above 8 counts as a success, and 10s allow for another roll. To determine whether an action succeeds, we count the number successes for one roll against the other. For example, an attack with 2 successes will not succeed against a defense with 4.
- If your attack beats your opponent's defense by five or more successes, you get two points for the round. If your defense beats your opponent's attack by five or more, you get a +2 bonus to your next roll.
- Special Force powers have a one round cooldown in moderated duels to prevent overuse. So, for example, if you use Force Repulse in Round 1, you most wait until at least Round 3 to use it again. This is to reflect the greater amount of energy and concentration this skills require.
