Saiph Dracus Full Name • Saiph Dracus Sith Name • Rayne Race • Human Birthplace • Onderon Age • Thirty-two Gender • Male Sexuality • Heterosexual Faction • Sith Concept • Sith Lord (Level 3 Equivalent) - Praetor Languages • Basic Assets • Two lightsabres, their handles built of a dark, crimson steel with matte black grips and bands, and red blades. Battle armour made of matte black with a similar crimson trimmings and decoration. Black mask, which the armour was built to match. The mask has been in his family as an heirloom since the Naddist colonisation of Onderon. Estate on the Onderon. Estate on Dromund Kaas. Significant funds. Appearance Face Claim • Ben Dahlhaus Height & Weight • 6"2, 230lb Overall Looks • Whether or not Saiph is in his armour, the first thing people will notice about him is that he is quite powerfully built. He isn’t incredibly tall at only 6”2, but his chest and shoulders in particular are quite broad, giving him the appearance that he is larger than he actually his. As part of his daily regime, he is constantly lifting heavy objects to help increase and maintain his large size, which assists him in physically overwhelming his opponents when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. This size is accentuated when he wears his battle armour and mask, combining with the black and crimson to create an intimidating appearance in combat. Behind the mask and hidden by his robe is shoulder length blonde hair and a short blonde beard that hides his chin. Both his hair and beard are kept groomed, with his long hair regularly tied back and away to keep from obscuring vision or getting in the way, especially when it comes to combat, which is his specialty as a member of the Cult of Strife. His pale blue eyes, as cold as ice, and equally unforgiving, are capable of the coldest of glares, and rarely, if ever, show emotion of any sort apart from anger, disgust, disdain and hatred. Despite a few minor scars, Saiph’s skin is relatively clean, with no tattoos or piercings present on his body. Saiph has a fondness for the colour crimson - the colour of the Dracus family - black and dark greys, and is rarely, if ever, seen wearing clothes of anything but these colours. When not anticipating combat, he is often found to be wearing simple but expensive clothes in these colours, usually consisting of a tunic and trousers with krayt dragon hide boots, and a long, black robe with a crimson band running along the edgings. The hood of the robe is almost always up, unless in the presence of someone he views as superior to him. When on a mission or in combat, however, his dress is a different story. The robe he wears is not as long, with the sleeves barely reaching past his elbows, though in a similar black with crimson style. Beneath the robe, rather than a tunic and trousers, Saiph dons matte black battle armour, decorated by crimson steel trimmings, and a black mask with crimson trimmings to hide his face. The particular mask he wears is, in fact, a family heirloom that has been passed down through the family, and dates back to the time of Freedon Nadd. Personality Profile The greatest personality trait that is recognisable in Saiph is his incredibly quick and violent temper, which is often seen in his rapid and dangerous mood swings. It comes from his pedigree, with his father being incredibly calm, and his mother incredibly aggressive. Saiph inherited both traits, it seems, and transitions incredibly quickly between them. He can be calm one moment, drinking wine, and the next slaughtering every servant in the room because a glass was knocked over. Whilst the fact he is drawn to anger and violence so quickly is, undoubtedly, his greatest weakness, his prowess in combat definitely helps. On top of this, Saiph is incredibly proud and arrogant. He was raised his entire life by aristocratic Naddist Sith Lords who taught him that, as his family history could be traced back to the Naddist colonisation of Onderon, he was above many others who he considers to be “new blood.” He has no issue with reminding people that they had chosen this life, where as he was bred, born and raised for it, and has no qualms about insulting people with this information. He is, however, incredibly easy to insult at the same time. Expect any insult to be met with violence, a grudge and a desire for revenge and retribution. Interestingly, though, Saiph has a very strong sense of honour, despite his upbringing and tendencies to violence. He is completely loyal to The Empress, and would gladly lay down his life for her, or the Empire. That, however, is where his loyalty stops, and his lust for power and ambition take over. He would willingly battle and kill any who stand in his way, and when he sets his mind to gaining something, he does not stop until he has succeeded, or he is dead. Background Father • Corlys Dracus, Deceased, Sith Lord Mother • Eira Dracus, Deceased, Sith Lady Overall History • Childhood Years Onderon. It’s a planet that has a long history of the Dark Side of The Force, reaching back to it’s colonisation by Freedon Nadd and his supporters. Supporters which included the Dracus family, who had followed their leader, and became part of the Naddist Theocracy on the planet. It was from this long line of Dark Siders that Corlys Dracus emerged. Corlys was recognised as amazingly calm, as though he were completely lacking emotion, a trait which assisted him greatly in making level-headed decisions. He would act not from emotion, but from logic and stable thoughts. A keen user of the force, the man focused more on those abilities than those of a blade, despite his willingness to use his lightsabre if the need arose. He was almost perfectly mirrored by his wife, however. Where Corlys was large and powerfully built, Eira was small, lithe and fast. Where her husband was known as a force user, Eira, like her family, had focused on the use of the lightsabre first, with the force coming second. Ultimately, the biggest difference between the two was their mentality. Where Corlys was calm, Eira was hot-headed, aggressive, easily angered and just outright dangerous. It was no wonder, really, that a crucible such as this would create such an unstable son. Saiph they named him, their one and only child, and apple of their eye. Right from the moment he entered the world, Saiph was doted upon by the two. Doted upon, yet raised with only one purpose ever intended for him – to become another Naddist Lord, following the family history of both sides of his family. He was tested at birth for his midichlorian count to confirm his force sensitivity, with the expectation that he would be discarded if he did not fit their ideals. The boy, from an early stage, could only be described as unpredictable. There were times when he showed both the calmness of his father, and times where he showed the sheer anger and aggression that his mother’s family were so renowned for. The issue, for many, was his rapid mood swings, and how easily they could be triggered. There would be times, as a child, that he would be playing one moment, until angered, when he would lash out with extreme violence towards others. He would punch, kick, bite, even use toys as weapons if he was capable and one was nearby. Unlike most parents, however, Corlys and Eira did not try to quash this behaviour. Quite the opposite, in fact – they encouraged it. They took pride from the fact their son was already showing signs of strength and dominance, and as a result, when he was deemed old enough, they began training the boy in the ways of the Dark Side, and the use of the lightsabre. Due to his violent tendencies and temper, even from the beginning of his training, Saiph showed an affinity to the martial sides of his training. It was fighting and violence that he enjoyed more than anything. Teenage Years It was just after his thirteenth birthday when Saiph, now officially his father’s apprentice, was told that the family would be moving to Dromund Kaas, where they had recently acquired an estate. For many young teens, moving home can be an exceedingly daunting change that they struggle to accept. However, the boy who, was already beginning to show the larger build of his father’s family, was eager for the opportunity. Despite constantly being around Dark force users on Onderon, he wanted more. He’d been told tales of the old Sith Empires and their greatness, but he wanted more than the tales of them. He wanted to live it. It was that which excited him most – the opportunity to actually be part of the new Empire, and not someone who came and left, as he saw it. He had also been promised more specialist training. Apparent that he would be a swordsman more than a philosopher, Corlys had recognised the fact that the sword styles that he, a Makashi practitioner, and his wife, an Ataru practitioner focused on were not ideal for his son. Saiph was large and strong, not suited to the rapid movements of Ataru, and too hot-headed and aggressive for Makashi, and so he made the decision to enlist acquaintances that were adept in Djem So and Juyo to assist him with his lightsabre training. Whilst he took to both with aplomb, it was Juyo that truly felt natural to him, where he was able to use his natural aggression and brute strength to fight and overwhelm those that stood in his way. When paired against those of similar age or size, his brute strength and ferocity quickly won out, much to the pleasure of his parents, who wanted nothing more than the strongest son they could possibly have. On his sixteenth birthday, Saiph was presented with a mask that had been passed down through the Dracus family since his ancestor, Calus, was slain in the conquest of Onderon. Corlys himself had passed the mask on, feeling that it was more suited to the swordsman that Saiph was becoming. It was also at this time that Saiph was given the opportunity to construct his own lightsabres, rather than using his father’s spare blade. It was crimson and black metals that he chose, matching the colours of the mask that he would soon come to be recognised by. It was not long after this that he began accompanying his parents on missions off world, either paired with one of them, or as a trio. By seventeen, Saiph had slain his first Jedi, one of his fondest memories. He’d accompanied his father to Nessem, where they were to investigate an expansion to the Nessem shipyards. It had been entirely unanticipated that the father and son duo would come across the Jedi Knight who had coincidentally been sent to the world to investigate a bounty hunter, yet when the opportunity arose, Corlys viewed it as the chance to truly test his pupil in the ways of combat, and he was not disappointed. Saiph was quickly enraged, worked up into a fury which was quickly, suddenly and violently unleashed upon the Weequay in a blaze of red. The fight had lasted mere moments before the Jedi, unable to defend against the continuous barrage of attacks, was finally slain, falling to the ground with a deep slash passing through his face, throat and chest. The green-bladed sabre would be kept as a trophy by the young Sith. Twenties Saiph was knighted and accepted into the Cult of Strife at the age of twenty, after having slain a Dark Jedi pretender who was claiming the title of Darth. It had been on Umbara, in Republic Space, when Saiph had finally caught up with the Echan man, with the fight lasting longer than Saiph would have expected. The Echani used a unique combination of Ataru and the Echani martial art to create a fast, flowing and direct style that countered Saiph’s Juyo well. It was after the marathon fight, however, that Saiph stood victorious, the man’s head gripped by the hair in his left hand, and eventually presented to the Praetor Magnus as a trophy, and proof of the completion of the task that he alone had been given to carry out. In his eyes, now that he was knighted, he was free from his parents who he believed he would soon surpass. In their eyes, however, was a different belief. In the eyes of Corlys and Eira, Saiph was their tool that would lead them to greatness. This difference in mind-set led to many clashes between the three, with the elders trying to bring the younger back into their fold, and the younger repeatedly denying them. In Saiph’s eyes, if they were too weak to take the power they wanted without him, then they were unworthy and undeserving of the power, or of his support. He left the family estate to set forth on his own, placing himself entirely at the service of the Praetor Magnus to do his bidding. In this stage of his life, Saiph travelled extensively on a variety of tasks, without a place that he could truly call home. Home to him was the cruiser he was on to travel. Home, to him, was a sentiment and a weakness that he would not allow himself to have. It was on one of these missions that Saiph was defeated, with his prey escaping from him whilst he was trapped. He’d cornered a Jedi, and was ready to strike, when he was set in a force stasis, leaving him helplessly watching as the man fled, making a near-impossible jump to a ship just as the stasis wore off. Saiph watched as the ship flew away, carrying the Jedi away from him. It was at that moment that Saiph told himself he would not rest until Ahlen Hars was dead. He vowed that he would pursue the man across the galaxy if he had to, but one day, he was going to catch up to the man, and there would be no escaping the retribution that he would deal with his twin blades. It was years before Saiph would get his chance, ironically, close to the planet he’d once called home. Dxun, the Devil Moon. He was unsure why the Jedi would come to such a place, inside Mandalorian Space, and to be truthful, Saiph gave little care to the reasoning behind it. He wasn’t driven by understanding or care, he was driving by pure rage, hatred and lust for revenge. The days that passed as he tried to track Hars on the moon seemed agonisingly long. He could almost taste his prey as he hunted, so close that his body ached with excitement at the chance to slay the one who had insulted him with defeat. It was in the midst of an abandoned, partially overgrown outpost that the two crossed paths, their fight in the dark only lit by their sabres and the brief flashes of lightning from the storm that raged on as they fought. Soon, the blue sabre would be extinguished, claimed by Saiph as a trophy once more. Thirties/Present Returning to Dromund Kaas for the first time in years, Saiph had reported directly to the Praetor Magnus, who began to tell him of a pair of Sith who, he believed, were plotting to assassinate Darth Renata in order to take power for themselves. Saiph Dracus was to to investigate, and if confirmed, to strike without mercy. Initially, Saiph had queried why a Knight of Strife would be tasked with an investigation, however he was soon able to work out why it had been him that had been chosen for this task. He had a way in, a way that the conspirators would trust him, and hopefully include him in their plans. He was to return to his parents, and reintegrate himself into his own family, who had shown themselves to be the power hungry traitors Saiph had left behind. He did, however, accept the task that was presented to him – he was no longer loyal to his parents, nor had he been since he was knighted. Now he was loyal to the Empress and the Praetor Magnus. He was loyal to the Sith. It appeared that his parents had been none-the-wiser of his discussions with his superior, allowing him to return to their home, though it was never the same as it had been when he was a child, nor did he want it to be. In their eyes, he was nothing more than a ladder to help them climb to the heights of power, and to Saiph, they were nothing more than traitors that deserved to be executed like the animals they were – slaughtered and hung up for the world to see the punishments for such a hefty crime. In time, Corlys and Eira introduced Saiph to their plan, information that was, of course, relayed back to the Praetor Magnus, to ensure that the plan would not succeed, even if he were to fail. On the day of the plot, the three of them travelled to the place where they had planned to carry out their assassination. They were all eager, with Corlys and Eira believing they would be able to assume complete control, and Saiph knowing that their plan had failed long ago. It was as the time approached, that Saiph struck, suddenly, violently. His sabre was quickly rammed through his father’s back to protrude from his chest. Dead instantly from the blade slicing clean through the man’s heart, Saiph withdrew his blade and turned his attention to his mother. His father had died first due to his mastery of the force – the weakness to his Juyo. His mother, however, would die all the same. She was aging, losing her speed and power with the blade, where Saiph was still young, strong and in his prime. He cut the woman down beside her husband, before taking both their sabres as evidence. Kneeling before the Praetor Magnus, both sabres were placed before him as Saiph kept his head bowed beneath it’s cloak. He’d knelt as a knight before the leader of his cult, and whilst his leader spoke, his own mind raced. It was clear, to Saiph, that his parents had waited too long in their planning, but he understood their final lesson – power in the Sith was seized, and always had been. It was as he rose, now Lord Dracus, Praetor of Strife, that he realised the Praetor Magnus was in his path to power. And one day, he was going to seize it. |
