"Now who can remind me of what the third law of motion is?" Taas turned from the holoscreen to look at the room's worth of Younglings. Each sat hunched over their desks in varied stages of disinterest, a few doodling on their holopads, a few others gazing off into the void. Only two seemed to be paying much actual attention, one in the back row staring at him vacantly, one sitting just before him with her hand raised and waving.
"Sheeri?"
"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction!"
"Very good." Tapping the holoboard, the wording law appeared on the board in large bold font. With a knowing smirk, Taas turned toward her again. "But can you tell me what it means?"
The Youngling's confidence evaporated, regret playing across her face. "It, uh... w-when a force is, um..."
Taas smiled a little brighter. She was certainly putting up the effort, but as a timer rang on the holoboard, the entire classroom zipped to life. Those particularly bored younglings immediately fled out the classroom door, the less passionate taking their time. Sheeri ignored it, twisting her face as she tried to come up with her answer. Sensing her frustration, Taas chuckled a little more.
"It's alright. We will be covering that tomorrow anyway." Leaning over toward her, he raised his hand to his mouth, covering it and whispering. "Though if you'd like to know before then, might I recommend looking somewhere between pages three and seven?"
Sheeri leapt from her seat, sliding her holopad into a tiny sack and speaking louder than she meant to. "Thank you Master Erast!" Bolting out the door, her energy differed from her peers, her presence a swirl of ambition and drive. Taas couldn't help but dwell on it as he packed his things, the next class of younglings beginning to trickle in with their instructor.
Sheeri was a smart young woman, to be sure, but he had to be sure to teach her temperance. She would judge herself too harshly otherwise, or so he thought.
Freeing himself of the classroom last, Taas walked at a relaxed pace through the Temple's halls, clearly not in a rush. Thoughts about the rest of his day flitted in and out, graceful as they were important. He needed to check on the relativity experiments his assistants were running. The Republic still wanted him to review that last paper on new sources of exotic matter. Beyond those two, he still needed to offer open office hours to any student that wished to speak to him. Beyond those three still, he needed to make a trip to the Archives and return the holocron gently glowing in his bag.
That took priority. Wandering through the midday sun, the Arkanian master entered the library with a sigh of delight. Jedi of various natures and purposes filled the tables and manned the shelves, pouring over holopads and even the occasional book. A trio of Knights observed a hologram at the end of one table, debating with hushed whispers. An older Mirialan Master handed a pad to his padawan, pointing at some specific portion of it to read. A duo of younglings sat with their legs swinging as a Knight read to them in a soft voice from some old tome of history.
Taas saw them all the same. Inquiring minds in search of answers.
Approaching the main reception desk, Taas's aged voice hummed to life. "Bernadette. How are you?"
The woman there, an older Cathar master herself, peeked over reading glasses at him and returned his smile. "Taas. Behaving yourself, I trust?"
A soft laugh rose from Taas, gentle and warm, restrained to a library volume. "Of course, of course."
"Why don't I believe that?"
"Simple, my friend. My next paper doesn't publish until next weekend."
"Force help me, I'll have to brace for all the requests and demands. What do you need today?"
"I've come to return R-91."
"Ah. Good, Master Ruthaldi came looking for it. She'll be pleased." Activating her holopad, the Cathar Jedi began to tap away. "Would you do me a favor?"
"Happily."
"I've had a poor padawan lingering here for most of the morning. Could you take her with you?"
"I fear a trip to the holocrons may not seize her interest."
"I think it will."
"By all means then."
"Thank you. Let me go grab her." Rising from her seat slowly, Master Bernadette Hipa gave Taas one last smile before hobbling off to find to Kilia.
"Sheeri?"
